Spirits were lifted and every knight in the room was left satisfied with stomachs full and minds buzzing from the alcohol.
When the king had finally finished his own meal, he stood at the front of the room and raised his chalice toward Henry and Commander Lothian.
Instantly, the room quieted down in respect for the old ruler.
"For doing my bidding for me, and assuring that the kingdom remains safe," the king said in a confident voice. "Here's to Commander Lothian and Sir Henry. May God always guide you forth."
The knights cheered at the king's short but heartfelt speech. Truthfully, they probably didn't care but they were happy to be given free alcohol and a night off.
The king took a sip from his chalice and placed it down. A servant immediately topped it off.
It seemed that the king was going to leave but he stopped before he could leave the room.
