Morning came faster than he would have liked and Henry woke up to the sound of the commander preparing a light breakfast for them before they had to head off on their journey again.
The moment he was out of the shade of the cave, the hot sun blared down on him and he shielded his eyes as they took a few moments to get used to the cruel rays.
"Sleep well?" the commander asked.
"Well enough," Henry said. "Short and sweet as always when we have to guard."
Callum handed the younger knight a bowl of porridge that was almost disgustingly dry due to their need to conserve water. There was no other choice and he dug into the food, knowing he was only eating to fuel himself at that point.
"Thank you for breakfast," Henry said, though it usually fell on the person who had the last guarding shift to clean up the most and make breakfast. "And I'm sorry for cutting off your sleep earlier than you probably would have liked."
