When Henry's happy face turned to the princess, she couldn't help smiling back at him. It was almost enough to make her forget what she had just witnessed.
Princess Marie stood up for Henry as he walked into the room. She was pleased to see that he had changed his shirt and washed away any traces of the blood she had witnessed before.
To her surprise, there wasn't a hint of the night before on his face as if it hadn't happened and she hadn't made a complete fool of herself. He only seemed happy to see her.
The closer he got, the more he overwhelmed her. She didn't know what to say right away.
"You don't need to stand up for me, princess," he said quietly. "Please make yourself comfortable."
Henry took her hand and kissed the back of it seemingly politely but the feeling of his mouth on her skin caused her to think of the embarrassing reason she was there and she pulled back her hand prematurely.
