Amaya along with the other athletes who passed the qualifying rounds were all gathered at the starting line. The venue for the championships were moved from the open ground to the oval inside the stadium. Amaya occupied the inner lane.
All the athletes who were participating in the sprint were paying attention to the referee. When the go signal was given, Amaya ran as fast as she could and she was undoubtedly the winner.
For the next event which was the 400-meter run, she run alongside Layla. Every time Layla falls behind, she cheered her on and prod her to run faster.
"You can do better than that. Just think that you are like the wind…"
Her encouragement lifted Layla's spirit. She increased her speed and no matter how fast she went Amaya never fell back and was always by her side.
"Just a little more." Amaya prodded her.
