The impostor pretending to be Hazel's mother realized that the little girl was smarter than she looked. She dropped her facade and glared at Hazel with pure venom in her eyes.
"Try to scream and I'll kill you",she said viciously. Taking a few steps towards Hazel, she tried to grab her but Hazel moved back until her back was against the counter.
"Stay away from me",Hazel cried out in fear, terrified of the fury in the woman's eyes.
"I'll get you brat!",the woman hissed and made a move to catch Hazel. She screamed as Hazel stabbed her with the knife she had been concealing in her dress. The knife wasn't sharp, and didn't really do much damage. But it cut the woman and she screamed for her husband.
"HONEY! GET IN HERE!"
Hazel ducked under the woman's hand and ran as fast as her little feet could carry her. The man who had been posing as her father glared at her and lunged. He landed close to her and grabbed her legs.
Hazel tripped and lost her footing, hitting her head on the wall as she fell. She saw stars. And she knew if she didn't escape, she would be dead within minutes. Tears came to her eyes as realization dawned on her that her parents were probably dead. And she would be next if she didn't act fast.
Moving all the energy she had into her petite figure, she kicked out hard and her foot came in contact with the man's right eye.
"Arrrrh! I'm going to kill this kid!",the man roared in rage and pain.
While the man was distracted with the pain in his eye, Hazel wiggled out of his hold and ran up the stairs. Her head ached terribly but that was the least of her worries. She needed a way to leave the house. There were no neighbors living close by so screaming for help was out of the question.
She dragged her body up the stairs and sprinted for her room as fast as she could. The loud voices of the imposters reached her ears as they argued wether to kill her now or take her to the 'master'.
Entering her room, Hazel shut the door and turned all the locks. She huffed out as she dragged her reading table and used it to block the door, not minding as her books and textbooks tumbled to the ground. Next she dragged the wooden wardrobe and pushed it to the door, barring the entrance. Lastly, she crouched beside the door and curled into a ball, shutting her ears with her palms.
"Mommy",she whimpered and cried silently. Where were her parents? If what happened in the car was real, how then did she get here? Who were the people impersonating her parents?
Suddenly something slammed against the door and she screamed in fear. The snarls and growls sounded again as something pushed against the door, wanting to open it. Hazel was trembling terribly and she wished for someone to come to her aid. She was scared of dying. And she didn't know what kind of creatures the couple were.
The door knob rattled as the man outside tried to push the door open but it didn't budge. Hazel screamed again and closed her ears as door knob broke away and a large scaly hand pushed through the hole. The hand looked skeletal, with wicked looking black claws. The hand scratched against the door, trying to get to the girl.
Hazel crawled away and moved towards the window. She pushed it open and stared into the night. The ground seemed to be grinning at her, taunting her. Should she jump? Would she die if she jumped? Did she even have the mind to jump? Strange creatures were behind her, wanting to get to her. And the only way to escape was through the window. What was she to do?
The door suddenly burst open and she turned around in fright, only to come face to face with two demons of hell. They were black and scaly, dripping with black blood. Their faces were irregular and was a mass of sharp teeth and red eyes. They crawled on the ground, dragging their bodies across the floor, staining the room with their black blood and snarling at Hazel, trying to get to her.
Hazel lost her voice with the sight of the terrible creatures before her. There was no other way. If she didn't make a move now, she would die.
She turned and placed a leg on the window, preparing to jump.
A hand shot out and pulled her back into the room.
Startled, she looked up at her saviour. A tall man with long dark hair, holding a sword by his side. He stood between her and the demons and she could feel the power coming off of him. She watched the demons lunge at the man, their claws ready to tear into him.
Terrified for him, she closed her eyes and all she could hear were painful howls and the sounds of a terrible fight.
It seemed like years before everything turned silent. Hazel remained crouched beside the window trembling. Her hands were pressed tight over her eyes and she was terrified to look up.
Then she heard her saviour's deep voice speaking to her.
"Open your eyes"
...
Tristian was in his home, enjoying a cup of mint chocolate chip ice-cream when the order came to him.
[Two demons escaped from the underworld. Find them. Now!]
He groaned tiredly.
"But aunt, this is supposed to be my alone time",he complained, replying the voice in his head. It was the voice of his great aunt, the gatekeeper of the realm separating the human realm and the underworld.
And also the sister to Lucifer.
[You spend your alone time getting drunk on the junk food of the humans. Get up this instant and find the demons. They're after something!]
Tristian gave up trying to argue with his great aunt. She was too inflexible and hardheaded. And if he didn't complete the task, he would be punished in the underworld.
Soon he was out of the house and following the trail of the demons. He followed the trail up to a lonely road and paused suddenly. Something wasn't right. He could feel the strong black magic in the air. The time of the world had been tampered by the demons.
Closing his eyes, he summoned the power within him and his eyes flashed golden. Using his own powers, he unraveled the black magic that had been cast and suddenly appeared at a house. Listening closely, he could hear the snarls of the demons as they tried to break through a door.
Then he heard a girl scream.
Tristian acted quickly. He moved in a flash, his form blurring as he used his inhumane speed. He appeared in the room just in time to see a little girl place her leg on the window to jump out.
In a flash he was beside her, holding her from jumping to her death and pulling her back. After making sure the human girl was safe, he turned and placed himself between her and the demons.
Swiftly he pulled out his sword and watched with bored eyes as the demons lunged at him.
This would be an easy fight.
A few minutes later, the disintegrated bodies of the demons lay on the ground, with black blood staining the entire room.
Tristian flicked his hair away from his eyes and turned to the little girl that was still trembling in fright.
Suddenly he frowned. That dress. The pink ribbon on her hair. The silky strands of her snow white hair.
It couldn't be. It couldn't be Heaven!
He had to know.
"Open your eyes",he commanded the girl.
