Chapter 3 - 3

After bidding farewell to Ava and her friends, I head off to my history class.

I was able to slip into the room before the late bell rang and slid into my chair before Mr. Wilbert turned around.

Mr. Wilbert is a middle-aged man with pale skin and black hair geld back to hide a bald spot. He always wore a dark blue suit and a white tie with a coffee stain.

For me, this class is an easy A, because he mostly goes over things we did in middle school.

"Good morning class," Mr. Wilbert beamed, "Today, we're going to discuss the great depression. Does anyone remember that?"

A girl beside me with freckles and red hair raised her hand. I think I did a project with her once. Was her name Kelly? Annalise?

I don't remember.

Mr. Wilbert waited to see if anyone else would answer before he called on her. "Yes. Anna?"

Anna. So I was close.

"The great depression was a time in history when the economy was experiencing problems with the bank," Anna answered.

Mr. Wilbert nods. "Well, yes-"

A knock on the door interrupted him, and he groaned. "Now he wants to show up."

He went to open the door, and I turned toward Anna. "Uh, who was he talking about?"

"Didn't you hear? Trevor is joining this class!" Anna exclaimed. "I'm so nervous. I've never shared a class with a popular kid."

It took me a minute to soak in this information. Trevor is changing classes? But why?

Mr. Wilbert walked back into the room, and Trevor was following close behind with a grin on his face.

"Ok. Everyone, open your history books to page 245. I want you to complete this entire chapter before the end of class."

Anna opened her book and frowned. "But we already did this chapter."

"If you've already completed that chapter, move on to the next. It's about the Holocaust." Mr. Wilbert instructed. He glanced at Trevor. "There's an open seat next to Miss Evelyn."

I hid my face in my book, trying my best to stay invisible. But it didn't work.

I heard a chair scraping beside me, and a backpack hit the floor. Beside me, Anna was shaking with excitement.

Trevor pulled out his book and plopped it onto his desk. He caught me staring at him and smirked. I turned away, my face as red as a tomato.

Why is he having this effect on me??

Someone behind me tapped me on the shoulder. I glance back at them and glare.

"What?"

He shoves a piece of folded paper at me. "Here."

I roll my eyes and snatch the paper. I check to make sure Mr. Wilbert is busy before I open up the paper.

Hey Evelyn. Looking good. So, did you think about my offer?

I pull out a pencil and scribble a message, then I pass it back to the kid behind me. A second later I felt another tap and read the message.

Cool. Meet me in front of my locker at 3:30. Bring a jacket! ;)

I crumple up the paper and shove it into my desk, I glance back at Tyler, but he's scribbling away in his notebook.

Well, one thing's for sure, this is going to be a very interesting year.
