Chapter 6 - DRACULA - Chapter Two (5)

2. Oct.22nd.1897 Fri. 4:10 pm Abraham Van Helsing's Mansion in Westminster, London - Van Helsing's Memory

Meanwhile, 91-year-old Van Helsing with hair, mustache, and beard all in icy snow-white, wrote a diary with a silver fountain pen, recalling the memory of the first meeting of him and Mina,

"20 years ago, Mina Murray was a freshman majoring in journalism at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, America, I was a professor of internal medicine teaching internal medicine to seniors in the medical school, and first aid & medical common sense to freshmen students in every major, and in the class, I found her talent as a vampire slayer,"

…Mar.5th.1877 Mon. 2:50 pm, on the first day of first aid & medical common sense class, many female students sitting in each one's seat, waited for their professor in the classroom, soon some of them talked to each other, and at the same time 18-year-old Mina in a simple dress in warm, bright white and modest, dark grey boots; all in the style of 1877, read the first page of one of those two textbooks both on the desk with a title 'The Methods of First Aid for Beginners', the tile of the rest one was 'Basic Medical Common Sense', soon another 18-year-old student majoring in the literature of Spanish, Chilean, Filipina, and Burmese descent in a blouse and a skirt both simple in warm, bright pink and demure, dark beige boots; all in the style of 1877, sitting in the seat next to Mina, looked at Mina,

"It's boring to wait for the professor, right?" asked the student,

"Right," said Mina closing the book,

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Victoria Hernandez,"

"It's nice to meet you, too, I'm Mina Murray,"

With an already familiar atmosphere, they continued to talk,

-"Helen Magill is one of my motivations," said Victoria,

"Really? me too," said Mina,

"You know, this Feb. she became America's first female Ph.D. after graduating in Greek at this University,"-10, said victoria,

"Right, I read the report, I respect her," said Mina with respect,

"So I also want to achieve my aims as she has done." said Victoria with intelligence, passion, and confidence,

Then at that instant, as soon as the door of the classroom opened, a 71-year-old white man in an icy white shirt, a suit set, a tie, and shoes; all in midnight raven; all in the style of 1877 with hair, mustache, and beard; all in dark gray and brusque aura, entered through the door, he also held a gloomily raven hat in his right hand and two textbooks each with a different title 'The Methods of First Aid for Beginners' and 'Basic Medical Common Sense' both in his left hand, directly walking to the platform for teaching, he stepped on it,

"Silence!" said he with a voice of seriousness,

Every student instantly stopped talking and doing other things, all of them looked at him with tension,

Soon he continued to talk,

"Good, thank you very much, of course, you should, all right, ladies, I'm professor Abraham Van Helsing, I teach internal medicine to seniors in the medical school, and first aid and medical common sense to freshmen in every major, I hope all of you will learn good methods for saving and treating people in an emergency that someday you can face in any situation, and basic common sense about medicine for health, so, first chapter, -'the origin of first aid, In 1870, Prussian military surgeon Friedrich von Esmarch introduced formalized first aid to the military, and first coined the term "Erste Hilfe" (translating to 'first aid'), including training for soldiers in the Franco-Prussian War on care for wounded comrades using pre-learned bandaging and splinting skills,'-11 and…" the first day of class went through without a hitch, the second day of class was also same without any problem,

But the third day of class, every student faced many various, vivid, delicate sketches & photos of anatomy dissection with exposed organs and a specimen of human's blood vessel that Van Helsing brought for realistic, practical education, so some among those students were scared and shocked by those data, besides, the fourth day of class, he took them to the laboratory in medical school, so they had to face those real dead bodies and organs, most student were scared and shocked, soon a student crumpled to the floor in a dead faint, and at the same time while other two students vomited into those handbasins, two assistants of Van Helsing carried the fainter to the infirmary, but although rest students faced those corpses and organs barely and listened to the explanation of Van Helsing roughly, keeping her calm without fear, examining those corpses and organs cautiously, only Mina focused on the class and also asked a question about the flexibility and the strength of organs, after class, while other students ran away from the nightmarish place in their hurry, before Mina left there, Van helsing said to her,

"You did a great job, Miss Murray,"

"Thank you very much for your generous praise, Sir,"

"Then Miss Murray, aren't you afraid of these corpses?"

"As a living human being, I feel gloomy about these dead bodies, and whenever I saw those dismembered dead bodies and decomposed dead bodies of poors on the street, whenever I do volunteering jobs for people in need, whenever I clean the excrement, vomit and blood of patients among those poors, I'm afraid of the pain of poverty, illness, injuries, disability, and death, so I'm not afraid of these corpses all in good states, I heard that some of them donated their bodies before they died, to help to find the way to cure illnesses, injuries and disabilities, besides, when I moved to this city to study in this school, I signed on the application form of donation of my dead body in future, therefore I'm not afraid of the precious bodies and good hearts of these good people,"

Next Friday, the fifth day of class in the same laboratory with other corpses and organs, during the class, a little later, two students fell in a dead faint by the new fear and shock, Van Helsing's assistants carried those fainters to the infirmary,

"Good God, how many times should I see that kind of fainters?" said Van Helsing, putting his right hand on the right side of his forehead,

After class, while other students left the haunting place in their hurry, Mina approached him sitting in a chair next to a desk,

"Sir, in my humble opinion, you only focused on the physical condition of patients, if you also explain this part, the mental state including the mental pain of patients before & after surgery, with your experiences about surgery in minute detail, I think it'll open the closed hearts of those students about anatomy, corpses, organs, and patients even a bit, and someday some of them will feel interested in the process of surgery bit by bit," said she, pointing her index finger at those sentences examining and understanding the mental condition of patients before & after surgery,

"Hum… right, good idea, Miss Murray, thank you very much for your good advice,"

"My pleasure, Sir,"

He picked up the silver fountain pen on the desk and took notes on the page,

Then after he put a period at the end of the sentence when he directly put the pen on the desk, through the open window, a raven bat flew into there, soon baring its every canine-shaped tooth it rushed to him, then at that instant, she picked up the pen and threw it at the bat, as soon as the point of the pen lodged in the heart of the flying attacker, screaming with pain and fury, the attacker fell to the floor, soon bleeding severely, the dying attacker yelled at her,

"Damn you, vampire slayer!"

As soon as it finished cursing, its dead body transformed into a pile of black dust,

"Sir? what's happening here? why did this weird bat call me vampire slayer?" asked she, with surprise and shock…

"Therefore I told her the truth that vampires were real and they had killed many people first, and lastly about my secret, my other job, my night-time job, the vampire slaying weapon inventor, she was not only talented in literature, but had also acquired that how to write the intellectual, wise, brave, real, surreal, true, truthful, honest stories; the instructive, influential and useful contents for lives in the art form called literature, therefore eventually she changed her course from report and critic to novel and essay, after the secret training and graduation, she has not only become a writer to give good influence to people, but also a vampire slayer to save lives."
