Chapter 49 - The Ultimate Showdown

When I woke up it the sun was directly above me. This branch was longer than the others and the sunlight managed to reach me. I checked whether my body was sore or not. I felt refreshed. I could easily perform a dragon's roar now. I looked down. The Krial was still there as expected.

As terrified as I was, I had to go down and face that beast, or I would never be able to go to the Southern legion and I would also starve to death up here.

I mustered up my courage and dropped down. The Krial noticed and got up. I landed a few meters away from the Krial. This was the first time I saw it up close. It was indeed much larger than an elephant.

Not only that, it had small bony spikes on its back that continued up to the end of its tail which seemed like that of a crocodile. Its face was even more terrifying.

I had no ears, nose, or tusks. It had three red and bloodthirsty eyes and a mouth full of needle-sharp teeth. It roared at me. This roar was extremely high-pitched but still terrifying.

I rushed towards me. My heart was beating so fast. I took a deep breath. I charged forward. As we came near it dove toward me with its head first and I too dove and delivered the same punch I did on the third trial.

This punch was stronger due to the sense enhancement caused by the strengthening of my soul. My fist and its skull met. The impact was so huge that dust in the ground flew around like whirlwinds. I stepped back in big leaps. So did the beast.

"So this is what it is like to fight a being with similar strength," I thought to myself.

I didn't back down and neither did the Krial. We fought for hours like this. We were so equal in strength that neither side had similar strength.

What I was most surprised about was that it, being so huge, was able to keep up with my speed.

In fact, it was slightly faster. Both of us were worn out to the bone. I was so tired that I couldn't even lift a limb.

I was also starving.

This was a battle in real life. This was nothing like my practice matches with my dad. My life was actually on the line and I had something to fight for. I was sure the beast was now down to its last stand.

Unfortunately for it, this was exactly what I was waiting for
