Chapter 70 - Chapter 70 Riddle

"Let's move out. To the fishing community," Feng Bo said as he hurriedly trailed behind Wang Li.

Arriving at the fishing community on their horses, Wang Li and the enforcers began asking question.

"What are enforcers doing in our community?"

"I don't know. But from the way they're asking questions, I'm sure they must be seeking for someone,"

Civilians from the fishing community discussed as they observed the activities of Wang Li and the enforcers.

"Has there been anything unusually in the community today?" Wang Li asked a group of middle aged men sitting under the shade of a tree.

"I don't think there has," one of the middle aged men said as he responded to Wang Li.

"Did someone come here with a carriage?" Feng Bo asked a lower-stage middle aged woman carrying a basket of full of fishes on her head.

"I've seen two[2] carriages passing through the road today. They both headed towards the inn in the middle of the community," the lower-stage middle aged woman said as she pointed at the direction with her left hand while her right hand held the basket on her head.

"Alright. Thanks for the information," Feng Bo said as he began moving towards the direction of the inn.

"We are enforcers and we need to access every room and every customer in your inn," the enforcer that mentioned the fishing community back at Wang Li's home said as he stood in front of a lower-stage elderly man.

"There might be important things belonging to my customers inside the rooms. If I give you both access to the rooms and they come back to find their goods missing, I can't tell what's going to happen to me," the lower-stage elderly man said politely while placed in a difficult situation.

"If you doubt us, then you can come along. We just want to see inside the room, nothing more," the enforcer said to the inn keeper.

"Bu….,"

"If you refuse then we'll have no choice but to assume you're an accomplice of the criminal we're searching for," the other enforcer said as he interrupted the inn keeper from continuing his words.

"I... Sigh!" unable to defend himself and still defend his customers, the inn keeper sighed before bringing out a bunch of keys hung on his waist belt, "three[3] of the rooms has been booked, and two[2] customers are currently in their rooms, while the customer not present warned me not to enter his room."

"Take us to the room of the customer that warned you to avoid entering his room," enforcer[1] from the second unit said to the inn keeper.

"Follow me," the lower-stage elderly inn keeper said as he climbed the stairs to the upper floor of his two-storied building.

Arriving in front of the fifth room in the inn, the two[2] enforcers tightened the hold of their spears as they nodded for the inn keeper to open the door.

!!

Scrr!

Slowly pushing the door open after unlocking it, the inn keeper swallowed hard as the nervousness of the enforcers affected him.

"Great storm god!" he shouted as he took a couple of steps backwards in shock.

"We're too late," enforcer[1] from the second unit said as he looked at the severed head facing straight at the door.

"You're both here," Feng Bo said as he walked towards the two[2] enforcers from Zhou Yao's unit, "I was about to go see the inn keeper. Have you see…,"

Coming to a stop after looking at what grabbed the attention of the two[2] enforcers, he shook his head after a second of going speechless.

Walking into the room and standing in front of the severed head, he looked at the paper with its left edge covered in blood beside it.

"Another possible clue," he muttered as he read the words on the top of the paper.

"I've fou… No!" Wang Li stood rooted in shock as he looked at the severed head looking straight back at him.

Staying silence as he let Wang Li go through the shock before proceeding in the case, Feng Bo squatted before picking up the paper beside the severed head of Wang Xiao.

Walking towards the severed head of his dad, he squatted in front of it before closing its eyes.

"I swear on my life that I'll kill whoever did this to you," he swore as he kept the severed head into his storage ring, preparing to bury it after he has killed the culprit who killed his father.

"Another message for you," Feng Bo said as he passed the paper to Wang Li.

Taking the paper given to him, Wang Li read:

"Opsy! Seems like you were late in figuring the clue in the poem. Your dad might be dead, but your mom and your sisters still have a chance to be saved. You just have to answer the riddle below.

I'm alone and lifeless, silence and tranquil, boundless yet limited, birthed in chaos yet led to peace. What am I?"

Restraining himself from tearing the paper in his hand due to his anger, as well as, his hopelessness, Wang Li passed the paper to Feng Bo after he's done reading it.

"It's a riddle," he said as Feng Bo took hold of the paper.

Reading through the words in the paper, Feng Bo shook his head before passing the paper to the two[2] enforcers from Zhou Yao's unit.

"The three[3] of us met on the way to the inn," Zhou Yao said as he came into room five[5] with the members of Feng Bo's unit, "any information on the culprit?"

"He left it in a riddle," Feng Bo said as he pointed at the paper in the hand of the enforcer in Zhou Yao's unit.

"Find anything?" Zhou Yao asked the enforcer that solved the puzzle of the poem.

"Following through with the exact words in the riddle, the answer would be death," the enforcer said as he looked at Zhou Yao, "but the culprit has no wish to die, so we can say death isn't the right answer. That will leave us with finding a place that has tasted death in its truest form. A place forever dead and can never birth a life."

"Like a desert," an enforcer in Feng Bo's unit said as he brainstormed.

"Birth in chaos yet led to peace. The deserted land," Wang Li said as he began walking out of the room, "the culprit next stop is the deserted land."

"The war that almost ended the super powers of the town was fought in the place now known as the deserted land," a father said to his son as he showed him the land covered in ghostly silent.

"Why haven't people started living around here, dad?" the eleven[11] years old boy asked as he looked at his dad.

"Humans tend to forget about their past after having nothing to remind them of it," the upper-stage male youth looked at his son as he answered his question, "the same thing will happen if people starts living here. And for the super powers to always remind themselves to avoid full-scale conflicts, they forbade the civilians of the town to ever live here."

"Spread out and search for the culprit. Light the fire beacon if you see any human," Feng Bo said as he gave out orders to his colleagues while Wang Li stormed his way into the tranquil land as fast as he could.

"We should leave," the upper-stage male youth said to his son as several horses rode passed him.

"What's going on, dad?" the upper-stage male kid asked his dad as they left the area of the deserted land.

"A criminal might be hiding in the deserted land," the upper-stage male youth said to his son as they left the area of influence of the deserted land.

A couple of minutes later…..

"We're still too late," Zhou Yao said before launching the fiery beacon into the sky, calling for Feng Bo and others.
