KATERINA'S POV
"Really? She didn't even get up to tell you goodbye?" Olivia asks, a pitiful look on her face that I don't like. I don't like people feeling sorry for me.
When I woke up to leave this morning, Mama was still in her couch with a bottle of whiskey in her hand watching some Korean show. She heard me walk down the stairs while I was loading my stuff in my car. When it was finally time to leave, I wanted to go to her and give a her a big hug, I wanted to tell her that I love her despite how complicated our relationship is. But I didn't. She said she didn't want a goodbye, so I didn't give her one.
"Tragic, I know. But it's my Mama we're talking about here. She didn't even wish me happy birthday yesterday so this should not be shocking news."
I know my mom didn't forget my birthday. It's not like she has a lot to remember these days. She just didn't care enough to wish me. She's too caught up in her self pity and self loathing to care about anything. It's almost as if her entire world revolved around my dad and when he died, her world stopped spinning, it turned stagnant and she's been in the same spot ever since.
"Right… but is she going to be okay? She must feel so alone now that you're here, in a different city. You're kinda all she had. Maybe you should ask her to move here too. That way, you guys can be together."
Olivia suggests, and it is an excellent suggestion but Mama made it very clear to me years ago that she would never leave that house. She says it reminds her of Papa and all the memories they made there together.
I scoff, letting out a sigh. "My mom is never going to leave that house. It's not an option for her. Besides, she may be a lost cause right now but she can still do basic things like eat and take care of herself. Maybe being alone for a while will give her time to self-reflect. And maybe, just maybe she will decide to get better. She'll be fine Olivia, I know it."
"Of course. Of course she'll be fine. I'm sorry, I know talking about it puts you in a mood. So I'm going to change the topic and talk about this AMAZING APARTMENT instead!! And who do you have to thank for it?? That's right, ME!" She yells happily with a smug look on her face.
The apartment really is amazing. I asked her to help me out with the search. I wanted an already furnished apartment so the only things I would need to move in with were my personal stuff. It's big with two rooms and an amazing kitchen. And don't even get me started with the bathrooms. I also wanted something close to the new advertising company I'd be working in and she did exactly that. The company is only a 15minute drive from here according to my google map app which is very convenient for me.
I don't know how she pulled this off but I don't know what I would've done without her.
"Thank you so much Liv'. It's just what I needed. You are a gem Olivia Yule." I say squeezing her in a suffocating hug.
"Alright. Alright. Let me go, I can't breathe Kat."
She falls to the floor and takes in deep breaths holding her hand to her chest.
"I think I need CPR Kat."
I laugh and fall to the floor next to her. "Drama Queen." I say teasing her.
"I love the new hair by the way." Olivia compliments. I decided to cut my hair shoulder length and dye it pitch black a week ago. Best decision I've ever made. It compliments my features in the best way.
"I bet it's gonna catch you a lot of fishes tonight." She says sitting up and winking at me.
"What do you mean Liv? What's happening tonight? What have you done?" I question her hoping she didn't set me up for another one of her dates. I just got here and I know I said I was going to give my heart a chance but not this fast.
"Kat, relax. I didn't set you up for a date. We're just going to the best club in Castings. It's very sophisticated. And you're wearing this…" She opens her bag and takes out a beautiful short gown.
"I got it for you. For your birthday. It shows some back and it'll highlight those wonderful curves you keep hiding and OMG Kat, you'll look so hot in it. Like a goddess." She jumps up and down squealing like a little girl.
I hold up the gown and examine it for a good while with a smile on my face. It is beautiful.
"So you'll come? You're not allowed to say no Katerina." She says with a hand on her hip and a raise of her brow, challenging me.
I let out a chuckle and shake my head amusedly. "Of course I'll go Liv. I can't remember the last time I went out and had fun. I need this. Plus I'm glad it's not one of your blind dates again."
"Come on. Let's go get ready for our girl's night out." She lets out a squeal as she pushes me to the bathroom to get ready.
We both get ready putting on some light make up, fixing our hair and putting on our clothes.
"You are going to spin heads tonight lady Katerina. I bet someone is gonna break their neck trying to get a good look at you." Olivia says, smiling at me.
"I'm not going there to look for a mate Liv, it's a girl's night out remember??" I say raising my brows at her.
"I know, I know but I have hopes. You just turned 22 Kat. You've never had a boyfriend and you're still a virgin. Being a virgin is understandable but you've never been in a relationship before! You need to get yourself a man baby girl. You are not getting any younger. Unless you want to end up old and alone in a house full of cats."
She says making me laugh at her last statement. "Don't worry Liv, that won't happen. Besides I'm allergic to cats."
"Right I forgot. I guess there's still hope for you after all." She teases and we laugh as we make our way to Olivia'a car.
"TO NEW BEGINNINGS!" Olivia yells as her car roars with life.
