"What's… this…?"
Jisoo was on the toilet in a stall, hiding away from Kang Min-ki and his asshole friends.
He raised his fingers up, to see if this was real.
As his hand went through the screen, he felt a chill across the nape of his neck.
"What in the world…"
It was like a little popup, grey with white letters.
The screen read:
"Congratulations! You have been chosen as the new Beholder of Night and Day!
The text box had one button on it to press.
Written on the button was:
"I understand and accept"
There was no choice to reject.
Jisoo retracting his hand, then slowly, with a sense of caution, pressed the button.
Confetti dropped all around him after he pressed it.
"Can other people see this..?"
The confetti faded before it hit the floor, seemingly stuck in a loop of endless pieces of paper falling from the school.
"So, what does this all mean."
A new text box appeared.
"You have chosen to accept the system!"
It was there for three seconds before it closed by itself.
Following that was a status screen appearing.
What it said stung him.
"Oh… how harsh…
He silently read along the stats he had.
Strength… F-
Agility… D
Intelligence… B
Endurance… F-
Potential… S++
When he got to potential, he was happy he had a high stat like that, but didn't know what it meant for
him.
"This is crazy…"
He continued reading.
Surprised, he noticed there was a skill screen.
But he didn't have any skills in there, other than something that said "The Student."
It was level 3.
The description on it said:
"Learn 3X faster than normal."
This skill actually excited Jisoo.
He jumped up from his seat, with his arms up like he was celebrating.
What this said actually proved to be unbelievably useful.
Jisoo had to figure out a way to survive the rest of the day, then exploit this ability.
While pulling up his pants with his left hand, and his right hand on his chin, he wondered.
"How will I-"
As he talked to himself, the door to the bathroom swung open.
The voices all overlapped, but one stood out.
"Where's that shithead at? Do you guys know?"
It's Kang.
The status screen someone disappeared by itself, almost instantly.
Jisoo put his feet on the lid of the seat while squatting, to hide his feet from any of them that would look underneath the gap of the stall door.
He concealed his presence as best as he could.
"Where the fuck is he."
Kang's voice was irritated.
The pitter patter of multiple feet sounded the room, then slowly faded out.
They all left.
With a sigh of relief he put his feet back on the tiled floor.
"Shit… I know I'll have to leave here soon, but I don't want to deal with this…"
While looking at the blue-grey little squares across the floor, he noticed a light out of the corner of his eye.
He turned to see that it was the status screen again.
"You have a new skill!"
There was a button underneath that said "Continue"
Tapping it with his left hand, a new screen showed up.
Confetti started falling in an infinite cycle again.
"Holy shit this is going to be annoying. How do I stop the confetti thing.
A new text box popped up.
"All special effects have been turned off."
It disappeared as soon as he finished reading it.
Without being distracted, Jisoo saw that he obtained a new skill.
"What the fuck…"
The skill was called "Spineless".
It was a passive level 1 skill.
The effect allowed him to be 50% more stealthy.
Despite the system calling him a wimp, he was overcome with adrenaline.
Was there no limit to how strong his skills could be?
With this weird, strangely RPG-like system, he could be otherworldly.
