"May I sit with you?" Evie looked up and saw it was one of the guys Max introduced as a member of their boy group. Kent was it? Evie gave a slight nod.
"My name is Kyle. I'm one of Max's friends."
'Yeah, right. Kyle.'
"What are you up to, Kyle?" Max asked out of the blue.
"I should be asking that question Max. You seem well acquainted with this hot deal and you seem to want to have her all to yourself without even introducing her or saying anything."
"You didn't ask."
"Do we have to?"
"Why are you such a pain in the neck. As you can see, we were talking here before you came."
"Why are you even sitting at a different table. You could at least be a gentleman and introduce her to your people. "
"She hates people."
"Hey, it's fine." Evie was the one who spoke this time. "Max, don't go saying that in public. People will think I'm a ferocious beast. A little introduction wouldn't hurt. Infact, I'd love it."
"See? You're the one with the problem, Max. You don't mind joining us at that table, do you?"
"Not at all, Kyle."
"My name sounds so beautiful when she says it."
"So does mine." Max gathered his tray in his hand as he walked towards his regular table.
There were 5 seats around the table but Kyle pulled an empty chair and set it between himself and Max. On Kyle's left was Patrick and beside Patrick was Myles and beside Myles was Jonah and beside Jonah was Max and beside Max was Evie and beside Evie was Kyle.
There was a wierd silence for 10 seconds as they all stared into each other's eyes but Evie just continued eating.
Jonah lightly elbowed Max to make him aware that he was meant to introduce the girl.
"Uhm... this is Evie. She's my childhood friend. We haven't met each other for 5 years, not until this morning. Now that I've introduced her, you can ask the remaining questions from Myles. He knows her too... so..."
Myles gave his group members a deadly stare that read only one meaning 'BACK OFF'.
"How about we ask Evie herself."
Evie narrated a few things that had happened during their childhood. Evie was not used to talking like this with people, but for some reasons, she felt like she was in her safe haven where she didn't have to keep her guards high.
"So, you still have your aggressive nature." A deep voice got their attention. All heads turned to look at the silent devil who hadn't said a word since, speak. He was the second eye witness who had seen what she had done to Kim.
"What do you mean?" she asked obviously irritated.
"I don't need to clarify anything. Not when you just broke a girl's fingers without anyone noticing a thing."
'He saw me.' "I was only standing up against bully. I can't let someone who's physically weaker than me to just act like that and let it slide. It only sends a message to others that I'm low on defense."
"Can we keep her?" Kyle asked grinning from ear to ear like a child who just saw a stray kitten and is asking for his parents' permission to keep it.
No one said a word. "As so it shall be." he said smiling. "You can always have lunch with us whenever you want, Evie."
Evie felt warm and cozy feelings in the pit of her stomach. This really felt good.
*IN THE SICK BAY*
"That bitch broke my fingers." Kim yelled at the top of her voice as the nurse tended to her fingers.
"The bones were just dislocated. Good thing it's not more than-"
"'Just' you say? 'Just'? My index, middle and ring fingers are ruined just by a stupid new girl and you say 'just'?"
"Listen young lady, this injury will be fine and back to normal in 2 weeks if you use the ointment and avoid excessive usage of the hand. Do contrary to this and you'll nurse those fingers for a month. I don't care who did it to you. All I care about is that you keep your voice low. This is an infirmary, not a performance center."
"Kim. You don't have to worry yourself." Bella said.
"All you have to do is get well soon and then you can get back at her." her twin said.
Kim just scoffed and stomped out of the infirmary.
"When she got out, classes had already started."
"Why are you late to class, Ms. Curt?" The teacher asked.
"Some fool broke my fingers, sir. I had to visit the infirmary to tend to it." She said staring directly into Evie's eyes.
Instead of walking straight to her seat, Kim decided to pass beside Evie so that she could hot her or something and then pretend like she did nothing, just like it had been done to her.
Before getting to where Evie was, Kim tripped and slammed her face on Evie's table. Kim slightly raised her head to see that blood had stained the table. It was her blood. From her nose. She stared at Evie and saw a smirk on her face and she whispered "No one calls me names and gets away with it."
'Unbelievable. What is this girl? Why can't she just be her prey?'
"Ms. Curt? Is everything okay?" The teacher asked.
"It's her. She made me trip."
"Sir, there was a book on the floor. Kim must have stripped over it." A girl with dirty blonde hair who sat on Evie's right side said pointing at the book.
"It is wrong to falsely accuse someone of something they are innocent of. Apologize to her immediately." The teacher instructed. Instead, Kim covered her nose with an handkerchief and stomped out of class. The truth was that Evie had put her leg in the way so that she could trip on it. It was after she tripped that she tossed the book to the floor to make it look like she tripped on it. The girl beside her saw it and Evie put her index finger on her lips while looking straight ahead. Kim had bullied the girl a few times before but she ignored her so she saw this as an opportunity to get back at her.
Evie looked down at her desk which was stained with blood and a smile appeared on her lips.
