Chapter 13 - POKER High School 2

"Evie?!!!" A voice called out to her. She looked ahead and saw two guys approaching her. One was taller and he seemed like he was the one calling.

'Who the fuck?' she asked in her thoughts

'Do I know him?'

'Now that I think of it... I think I do.'

'But from where?'

'He looks quite familiar.'

As her train of thoughts kept running in her head, he halted right in front of her.

"Good morning, mom." he greeted Annah. "What's up Dave."

They all seemed confused but they greeted him back anyways.

"Hello." Annah said.

"Sup, man." Dave replied.

"Oh, shit. Max?" Evie finally found out. (That childhood friend that was mentioned earlier, that's him.)

"Took you long enough."

"Bro, you're big." Dave said shaking hands with him and pulling their shoulders to bump.

"Oh, my. Maximum, you've grown so much. How's everyone?" Annah said smiling.

"Everyone's fine, mom." he smiled back. "Pardon me. This is Jonah. Jonah, Evie, her brother, Dave and her mom."

"Good day ma. It's nice to meet you." he greeted and then nodded and Dave. He then went over to Evie to shake hands with her which took longer than necessary.

"We be better be going home now. We don't want to delay you since class must have started. Bye Evie, have a nice first day of school." Annah wave at her daughter stepping away slowly.

"I don't think you'll be needing that since I'll be walking you to class." Max pointed at the map Evie held.

"Me neither." she folded the paper and kept it in her bag. They walked into a building that looked like the main block.

"Evie, can you tell me more about yourself." Jonah said.

"Save that for later, Jonah. We're already late for class." Max replied before Evie could give a response.

"Miss Jenkins?" a voice echoed in the hallway. The hallway was empty. The students seemed to have gone to their classes.

She turned her head to see a woman in her early thirties. She wore a gray blazer with a matching skirt that stopped a few inches above her knees. She wore a white shirt with white cover heels. Her brown hair was neatly dressed and her green eyes shone brightly. She walked up to the trio in effortless steps.

"That's me." Evie responded.

"That's the principal, Mrs. Fern." Max said.

"Yes, I am. Good day Ms. Jenkins."

"Hi." Evie said with blank expression.

"Is she always like that?" Jonah whispered to Max.

"Yes. And I'm not surprised she hasn't changed." he replied.

"You boys can go to class now. I want to have a small talk with Ms. Jenkins."

Evie hates it when people call her 'miss' or by he last name. It sounded too formal and she was not comfortable with it.

"Ms. Jenkins-"

"You can call me Evie. I prefer it that way." she interrupted her.

"As you wish. I don't have too much to say. I just want to remind you to go over the papers handed to you. It's better to not misplace them until you know the contents by heart. And incase you need anything, you can find me in my office. It's in the staff block." she said.

'Oh, that's all?'

"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." she said with her face, still emotionless.

"The second class on the left is where you should be." Mrs. Fern said.

"Yes, I know." she had seen the two guys had entered the classroom.

On entering the class, all eyes turned to her. There was a 5 seconds grave silence and then everyone started murmuring.

"Silence!" The teacher drew the students' attention. "Looks like we have a new student today. Please can you introduce yourself?" The said smiling widely at her.

She poked her cheek with her tongue and then answered.

"Hi, I'm Evie." she said with a straight face. Everyone was waiting for what was coming after but she just walked up to the space beside Max. He looked more excited than he was before.

Immediately she made contact with her seat, the murmurs and gossips started again.

"Hey." Max nudge her with his elbow and pointed at the seat behind him on the last row. 'Fuck.' She was not expecting that. She totally forgot that this guy existed but her expression remained the same.

"Hey, Myles."
