It was already dinner time and the family sat at the table eating. Felix and Annah were discussing something only they seemed to care about. Dave had 101% focus on his food while Evie evenly distributed her attention to both her food and her phone and then a voice made their attention on one person. It was Evie.
"I really don't like it when I'm kept in the dark. It makes me feel like you all take me for a fool. If y'all can be aware about something very important that might one way or the other have to do with me, just spill it."
No one said a word, but they all seemed to have gotten the message.
Everyone had finished their food and they all sat in the living room. Evie and Dave were on their phones while Felix and Annah were watching TV.
"When do you intend to take me for the registration?" Evie asked all of a sudden.
"Monday, honey. It's better to do it early Monday morning so that you can resume immediately. If the entrance exam or the admission processing takes longer than necessary, you would have to resume the next day." Felix replied.
"Hmm." was her short reply.
Later, in the evening. Dave and Evie set out to go for a stroll. The atmosphere in the country had a little more energy than that of Canada. There were many beautiful malls, shops and buildings. They branched at an ice cream shop and bought ice cream while still continuing their tour around the city. After getting familiar with a few places that were not too far from their house, they headed back home buying a few more things to eat in a takeaway.
The next day was a Friday. Felix had bought a new video games for both his kids. They had one back at their former house but gave it to a kid who had asked for it when they had almost moved out. Evie and Dave loved playing video games together. Evie was better at video games and wins over 80% of the times they play.
"I was going easy on you so you don't feel bad. You are younger than me, you know... I was not totally focused... my game pad is messed up... I was hungry so I didn't have a lot of energy..." Those were Dave's words when he lost a game.
The next day was filled with gaming, watching movies, eating and then later at night, they went on a tour around the city again but not too far from the house. The same applied to the next day and the day after till it was 3am.
Evie stayed up very late because she was unable to sleep. Three hours ago, the same image she had seen in Dave's room appeared in her head again. What she was curious about was not even the image, but how or why she was seeing it. It was clear as day like it was in front of her. She had never heard of anything like that before. Soon she drifted off to sleep when her brain couldn't think of a possible answer.
******* Monday Morning******
"Hey, come on. Evie! Wake up. You're going to be late for school." Felix said trying to wake her up. He had been knocking on the door for quite some time so he had to come in to see if everything was alright. Evie had problems waking up on her own and sometimes with an alarm. She either just turned it off or she doesn't hear it. Most of the time, it was Felix or Annah who woke her up. But it seemed like she was in a deeper sleep this time.
"Just give me a sec." she said turning on the bed.
"You are already running late. You were meant to be awake over thirty minutes ago. Come on up." he gathered her in his arm carrying her off the bed to set her foot on the floor. "Did you not sleep well? You look very tired."
"Hmm. But it's fine. I'm off to the bathroom now." She staggered.
In the bathroom, Evie just sat on the cold tiles trying to reset her brain. She slept for only four hours. It was not like it was the first time but this one got her feeling severe headache.
She finally got up and headed to the shower. she spent some time in the shower washing away all the crazy thoughts that went through her head a little bit.
She came out of her room wearing an high waisted jean trouser with a red short sleeve crop top that stopped at the top of the trouser with a matching red sneakers (yes, all her shoes were either sneakers or boot). She hung her bag on one of her shoulders as she headed downstairs.
"I'm ready."
