To rank up, a student had to fight against a higher-ranked opponent chosen by the teachers. After winning the match and proving their strength, they would be assigned a quest. Only upon completing both would they earn their new rank.
Besides, there was an internal hierarchy between each rank. Basically, a number was assigned to each member of the dojo. The smaller the number, the stronger the individual was.
To advance in the internal hierarchy, members challenged each other to matches. When a higher-ranked member won against a lower-ranked one, rankings remained unchanged. However, if a lower-ranked member defeated a higher-ranked one, they would swap positions.
Upon reaching level one, members could request promotion from their teachers. If they won their match and completed their quest, they would take the position of the higher-ranked member they defeated, while that member would drop down one rank.
