Chapter 2 - The Beginning

These days it has become common for me to wake up sweating. I am getting more and more nightmares as the day passes. I don't precisely remember what these nightmares were about. It's not surprising I have been burning the candle at both ends.

With those thoughts, Luke got up from bed, finished the daily routine, and took a bus to his new workplace.

Today was the first day of his work in Kravia. He was from the small town of Borta. After completing high school, he decided to move on to kravia. To earn some money, he has experience doing part-time jobs in his town, but food delivery, babysitting, and being a dog walker weren't stable jobs. He was well aware of his standing and the hardship he has to face going forward.

"Good morning boss, My name is Luke and I am a recruit. I look forward to working under you" These were the lines Luke has been preparing for a while. Instead of using big and catchy dialogues, he sticks to simplicity.

"So you are the rookie, it is unexpected for a youngster to join," said Albert

Albert was a manager of kravia branch of Raven. He was in his forties, just an average salaryman. Raven was a private organization responsible for cleaning up the monster corpses. They were responsible for both dungeon cleaning and outbreak cleaning.

"Hello the rookie, Welcome to hell, you must have a reason for taking such a risk at your age" It was Paul standing there leaning on the wall with a smirk on his face.

He wasn't exaggerating anything, there wasn't a more precise word than hell to describe this job. Being a clean-up team wasn't as simple as it sound. On top of the occasional appearance of new monsters, to the unpredictable terrain of dungeons, if anything it was furthest from the safe job. To add icing on top dungeons were considered a phenomenon, an excuse to not cover insurance.

"If you are here Paul why don't you give a quick tour of the workplace to Luke and introduce him to co-workers, be easy on him, okay!" after finishing his sentence Albert got back to his computer not giving Paul any chance to retaliate.

Paul was a field manager and captain of Team A, he was in his thirties and has been captain for more than four years. He already had seen enough death of his colleagues and working around those haughty extraordinary, If it wasn't for the high salary he would have left the job long ago.

"You shouldn't have high expectations, I will just introduce you to your co-workers, get along with them and figure things out on your own, we are going to a Rank-D dungeon, excluding bizarre monsters and atmosphere that would be the same as taking a walk in an open dungeon," paul finished his sentence with a smug face.

The open dungeon AKA Rank - E dungeon, of course, I have been to one as a kid with Dad. After that incident, I have never been to any Dungeon, after a decade, I will be again entering this hell pit under this cursed organization Raven.

"Hey…, hello? Are you even listening to me? Elise a long brown-haired girl started waving her hand in front of Luke's face

"Ohh sorry! I must have spaced out, I am just a bite nervous"

"Well, that's not uncommon it's your first day I must have been pressuring you too much, but Still having few Rank - D, Hunters doesn't guarantee our safety, dungeons are beyond human comprehension"

She might sound overcautious but she is right, dungeons are unpredictable and so are humans. Who can know this better than me? Not like I ever trusted anyone.

Are these our uniforms, rather it's more of an armour. It's expected they have to follow at least this much of protocols. A firm, durable armour by the latest nanotechnology is better than an army vest in all features. it's not magic armour or not like a normal person can use it anyway.

Team A contains a total of five members.

Elice is a walking Encyclopedia, she knows everything about monsters, magic items, or rarely found artifacts. The other four members were responsible for labour work like collecting monster corps, digging up minerals, dissecting monsters, and securing important body parts of monsters.

"So is this the dungeon we are headed into? It's my first time entering this dungeon" said Clant with a worried expression

"This is a newly manifested dungeon, but you don't have to worry much about it I already analyzed the guild report on the dungeon, it's just an average D ranked Dungeon"

"Isn't this dungeon under the 'Night Owl" guild, some rumours are going around about how notorious the guild is and how they were able to be ranked third by their shady way of doing things," said Jay

Luke was quietly listening to the whole conversation without saying a word, he had his doubt about the dark owl, but neither it was his place to say anything in the matter nor was he interested in it.

"You don't have to worry about that, Hunters we are going in with isn't part of the black owl, they are just a commissioned mercenary group, night owl is focusing their resources on clearing higher-ranked dungeons and levelling up their new star-rookie Victor.

Soon after the hunters arrived Luke entered the dungeon with his team, unaware of what was waiting for them.
