Esmond softly knocked on the door and hearing Alfred's command to enter he let himself in. He gave a quick bow before taking his seat and pushing the work to the side, Alfred gave his full attention. He knew Esmond wouldn't come unless it was important.
"The Church has begun to move. I know they sent word to begin elections, and a couple of their bishops have arrived." His voice was calm and Alfred sighed, giving a slow nod.
"I know all this. But there's more isn't there?"
"Another one has arrived. Separate from the rest. The church is split on how to deal with us, that much is obvious by the delay, but it seems the opposing forces have made their move."
"When did this happen?" Alfred grabbed the bridge in his nose and rubbed the corners of his eyes.
