Long ago, long before the Ancient Hero defeated the ancient demon lord
and the era of humans rose from the ashes of the demon lord's empire,
humans were nothing more than just one among a handful of species.
The name Zoltan did not yet exist. The wood elves who called this
region home referred to the river that cut across the land as many things.
In the morning, it was called the river that reflected the sun rising over
the great mountains.
Around noon, it became the white river where fish leaped from the
surface.
Come evening, it was referred to as the time of rustling insect wings.
Then at night, it was dubbed the two dancing moons.
Wood elves believed that everything experienced constant change, and
so they avoided giving things fixed names, instead trying to express the
world in poetic phrases and metaphors. In their eyes, the scenes of today
were a different world from the scenes of tomorrow.
However, there was an exception. This land known now as Zoltan had
only a single wood elf name.
The Hero's Calamity.
But that is an old story.
