Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 1; THE STATUE OF SHEKAN

The mountains of Kolmnid were secluded from the rest of the world. There was no centralized civilization dwelling in those areas. They were home only to nomads that lived around that area seasonally. But these mountains had a secret. Within the most isolated regions of Kolmnid dwelt a great Temple, the Crystal Temple. Somewhere close to that area, the eternal dwelling place of the Crystal Dragon lay. The Crystal Dragon Clan had played a principal part in the sealing of Shekan and the secrets to unsealing him were hidden amongst the elders.

Michael and Ryu were twins who were very gifted in the art of ninjutsu. They believed in their father and the sacred dragons. They loved the legend of Gaiden and Shekan and cherished it. These two boys were however the exact opposites of one another. Whereas Michael, the elder twin grew to be responsible, tactical, serious and mature, Ryu, the younger twin grew to be reckless, sarcastic, immature and an incredible slacker in studying the theoretical aspects of ninjutsu.

The Crystal Temple was a huge stone Temple, hewn from the sides of a gigantic mountain. Many sacred passageways were hidden within the Temple and the elder monks and ninjas that dwelled within the Temple had specifically warned all the younger ninja training there never to wander into any restricted, suspicious or unmapped area of the Temple. In that age, ninja born under a specific ryu were assumed to wield the powers of that ryu and it was their duty to master that power in order to quell the troubling times that were about to surface. Of late, the elemental powers seemed to have gone out of order and ninja could be born under a specific ryu while they wielded the powers of other ryu.

On the fateful day that began a fateful journey, the two brothers, Michael and Ryu were training secretly within one of the most sacred halls of the Temple. This sacred hall had a ground that was a little lower than the other surrounding areas within the Temple and was thus lined with stairs to make going in and out of these grounds easy. On the sides of the walls of the Temple sat stone dragon statues, of varying natures and shapes.

"Hey Ryu, if dragons really do exist, how come we've never seen one before?" Michael asked.

"Father says, the cloud of mist will only reveal the dragons when the chosen ones are ready for the quest," Ryu replied.

"Wow, that's some story" Michael said.

The two brothers talked as they trained.

"I wish I had the power of the dragon" Ryu said.

"We are part of the dragon clan. Of course we have the power of the dragon" Michael said.

As the two brothers trained, Ryu tripped on a stair and fell. As he fell, his hands held the head of a sacred stone dragon saint and pushed it into a wall. Immediately, the floor opened and a gust of wind blew around the brothers.

"Wow, Michael, a sacred passage! Let's explore it!" Ryu said eagerly.

"I think this is the passage father has forbidden us to use" Michael said.

"Come on!" Ryu said as he ran into the passage.

"Wait a minute Ryu! You don't know what's in there!" Michael called as he chased after his brother.

They ran through tunnels and finally came to a cavern. In the cavern, they saw a lot of ancient artefacts.

"Don't touch anything" Michael warned Ryu.

They walked on till they saw some huge stairs. They climbed the stairs. At the top, they saw the statue of Shekan. It had a crystal gem in its chest. Ryu took a torch from the chamber and lighted it.

"This has got to be centuries old. Wait till father hears of this" Ryu said excitedly.

"He cannot know. No one must know. Promise me that you won't tell anyone Ryu" Michael said worriedly.

"Okay" Ryu promised.

Ryu and Michael climbed the stairs till they stood before the Statue Of Shekan.

"It kinda resembles you" Michael joked.

"Hey! It's obvious that this Statue is of Shekan! Look at the size of its sheath! He must have had one great sword!" Ryu exclaimed in awe.

"It's got something written beneath it. It's dim. It's in Meltor, the language of the dragons. Let me read it out" Michael said.

"From the combined power of the dragon Saints,

Your quest must begin, be light and quaint.

For the elements of each ninja ryu

You must fight to preserve the power in you.

The mist of Shroud that clouds the face

Of the dragon saints and their Holy Place,

You must remove and seek them out

Search North and East and West and South

The Sword Of Rai of Gaiden you must find

And seal the evil in the rock behind"

The inscription stated.

"That's got to mean something" Michael said.

Suddenly, the statue threw a beam of light over the boys.

"Do not be afraid, I am merely a horcrux of Shekan. Shekan will reawaken so the powers of Light have chosen you to battle his forces. Your quest is about to begin. Seek the dragon Saints of each ryu, the sword of Rai, and seal Shekan before he fully regains his powers" the statue spoke.

Immediately, a flash of light filled the cavern. When Michael and Ryu opened their eyes, they were in the Temple. The monks sat all around them.

"YOU ENORMOUS FOOLS! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!! You disobeyed me and now you must pay for it" the father of the brothers said angrily.

"Haha…uh…um… about that…" the brothers tried nervously to lie.

"I had hoped this day would never come but it has come all too soon. By trespassing in the Caverns Of Eternal Battle, you have placed on yourselves the burden to search for the dragon saints and stop Shekan!" their father thundered.

"Your quest begins immediately! You are hereby banished from this village until you stop Shekan" the monks said. "Now off with you!"
