Chapter 22 - End of War

I was able to build a plane, not only that I was the first person to ever build a flying object, and not only that, it was a plane meant for war.

It was as if I am being a disgrace of my world, building a commercial invention for military and political purpose. Have I gone insane? Perhaps, maybe not.

What truly matter is to gain advantage in a war where I am outnumbered. I can say that I have a pretty well equipped 1000 man within a week of preparation. However, this are too low of a number compared to my neighbor.

But if I have a good pilots that have the courage to face a thousand enemy despite being outnumbered, then bombarding them and destroying their chain of command can be easy as washing hands.

I was told that the enemy will arrive shortly, somewhere around 2 to 3 days. The preparation to defend the city is far from done, but using the offensive force will do the job for that.

Offense is the greatest defense after all.

Now, for my tactics. I will commit no night raid since it will destroy the fun and will only wait for them to reach the horizon, after that, an order to attack.

For the next 2 to 3 days, I will have my army position themselves respectively. It may thin them out since they're spread, but it will be effective against high number of soldiers that only use swords.

After that, the single bomber plane made especially for destroying their command chain will be deployed to kill their kings. Speaking of King, they are too bold to even send their two royalty to fight us. They must've heard about the overwhelming force of us or they're just underestimating us because we are a single town.

Well, those reckless thought of them will only cause us in advantageous position so it's fine.

"A war is raging near, will it be fine to stand beside you again?"

It was Yrea who spoke, she wore a sad face just like I always remember. As if she became my mother now with all those months of being together.

Though I don't really hate that kind of feeling. Missing the comfort of my mom and dad is something that can make me feel nostalgic.

"Of course. I want you to see how the world will change that goes according to my view. A world you and me will enjoy."

-----

Three days later and the enemy has now reached the horizon. My men had also been prepared and spread out wide from my territory's border.

3000 of well equipped soldier, 2000 carrier of support equipment such as hygiene and medicinal herb, 250 artillery team, and a single bomber plane ready for departure. That's all the soldiers I manage to get within the borders of this margrave territory.

Some are from villages that neither know how to fight nor wield a gun, but within days of training they manage to shoot within the target's circle. Though it's still unknown if accidents such as malfunction of gun because if misuse or friendly fire will occur.

However, it's too late to train them now that the enemy has finally reveal itself. And because of that, I order an immediate attack.

"Attack!"

Immediately after my order, artillery soon rains the area where most enemy infantry walks. The instance it landed to them, all of them began to break their formation.

The line began to distort, with cavalries' horses began panicking while other soldiers daze in fear of the mysterious attack. Those pitiful humans earned my sympathy as they look in our direction with terror visible in their eyes.

However, a war fought is a war with casualty.

Despite all those fears I see in the eyes of the enemy, the bombardment of the artillery didn't stop. No mercy shown, only bloods, bodies, and stunned soldiers lies far from here.

"Disastrous for them."

Though an obvious victory is drawing near for us, my face seem to be dissatisfied of such event. I can't really feel sad about it since it would only make me a hypocrite.

Now that the enemy formation has broken and their soldiers had lost their will to fight, the only thing that can save them now is the surrender of their commander or death.

"Only dead can see the end of war"

It was one of the quote I remember very well.

"That's a terrifying word to say it."

Right beside me is Yrea, but the one who spoke is Elsa. The first princess of Brestia that currently acts as my guest until she retake her empire.

"It's a quote from a very wise person, for every death a war ends."

"I see. Is that from your world too?"

"What world?"

The one who asked is Yrea.

And now that I remember it, I haven't given her the full detail of my life yet. Though she knows I am a hero and a summoned one, she knows nothing about my motive and my world.

"I am from a world rich in war history, Yrea. This war that you're currently looking is a war fought in my world a century ago."

Yrea was too stunned to speak, she didn't asked any further question and simply stare the enemies who slowly drop one by one.

It was not until an hours when she asked me again.

"Then, what are you fighting for?"

"Peace."

She only looked at me with a frown burrows, she look at me as if trying to find the answer in my fzce.

"Then why wage war if you want peace, shouldn't you have just live with me and grow together?"

I smile, her innocence is truly something that is worth fighting for. But those innocents are the ones that becomes the victim of peace they knew.

"That's not peace, Yrea. That's comfort. I will show you what it truly means to achieve peace, a peace that you never have experience but longed for."

Yrea looked away at me, she must've felt unease due to my pressuring gaze. I'm sad about it, but giving her the time she needs to accept the reality will probably takes some time.

But, in those reality she will soon face, will I be included?
