Chereads / The LOST PRINCESS / Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE: AWAKE

Chapter 3 - CHAPTER THREE: AWAKE

Evan woke to terrible pains that surpassed a headache, it felt as though her head had split in two from the edge of her temple slanted down to her chin, in fact, she was surely sure that her head was split open, she tried to raise her hand to feel her face but it wouldn't move.

She tried again and again and again, but nothing. She was still, in incredible pain that seemed to worsen by the second and she couldn't move,

"calm down Evan, breathe"

She took a slightly unstable shallow breath in, then out, at least she was still in control of that, next, where am I, she tried opening her eyes, but they wouldn't budge, panic slowly started to creep in, again

She calmed herself steadied her breathing then tried again still nothing, she lay there unable to move and listened.

First, she heard little noises that sounded like that of a baby, but who was to say it was not that of a little child or another infant, there was no guarantee that it was the princess,

She had to remain calm, she couldn't move, so even if it was the princess, she was unable to move and it would do more harm than good if her captors knew she was awake so she lay still, continued to listen, she heard more voices that sounded female but could not make out what they were saying, slowly she slipped back into her sleep.

People were quarreling or at least that was what it sounded like, the voices were what woke her the second time, the voices were getting a lot louder and clearer now but Evan still could not make out what they were talking about

"once she wakes, she must leave this house and that is final!"

She heard that loud and clear, the splitting headache had now seemed to have reached its full strength, not giving much thought to what she was doing she instinctively lifted her arm to her head and it actually moved, her palm felt her face and found her whole face except her right eye was wrapped with cloth, whoever did this did a fine job, she tried to open her eye and with little difficulty, her right eye opened slightly only for Evan to shut it again as the sunlight was too bright that it burned and blinded her, she opened her eye again and took in the room she was in. It was small, way smaller than the one in the castle, and even the inn they stayed at was bigger than this room, at least this was no inn or tavern it definitely was not a cell so that was a relief on its own.

It looked like a home, a family house, the décor was simple, its walls were made with wood, one simple window that was wide enough to air the room, and a table between the window and the bed, it is either these people lived a very simple life, or they were not well of.

Having gotten accustomed to the room she was in, she tried to get up, her feet knocking off the bowls and herbs and plates that were in the tray at the foot of her bed where Mrs. Becca had left them after treating her and they landed loudly on the floor "oh no"

There were hurried footsteps and before Evan could think of what to do the door swung open.

Evan had just lain her hands on the closest weapon she could find, which was a simple candle stand that was by her bed when three pairs of eyes walked through the door, she flung it hard enough but it only bounced off the wall as her target focus was not the best with one eye closed, and the other one barely open, well it was now closed too as a surge of pain run from her fingertips straight to her head and stuck there.

As soon as Mrs. Becca swung open the door the first thing she saw was her wooden candle stand flying towards her, not caring to see where it would hit, she quickly shut the door, her children were right behind her when the thud sound was heard.

"well she's definitely awake" Gorge said coming in front of his mother and slowly creaking open the door and peaking in, the lady sat on the bed, half of her was bandaged and her head hung down, she looked like was dazed,

She wasn't moving so he opened the door a bit more, little by little until it was wide open, the candle stand lay on the floor in different pieces, he walked in first, then Mrs. Becca and Tessa. "Is she alright mother?" George asked,

Mrs. Becca crossed the room passed, her son and in what seemed like a walk run she reach the bed Evan was laying on, she took Evan's hand and checked to see if she'd feel anything,

When it felt like she felt a pulse she wasn't so sure, it felt like she had imagined it as it was so faint, she quickly tore a thin piece of cloth and held it under her nose when it moved she let out a breath of relief.

"The stone she hit her head did a huge damage to her head, it almost broke open, it's a surprise she woke this early, and a miracle she could move at all, she is still breathing though, I think she passed out"

At that George breathed a sigh of relief and Tessa said "Thank God"

"But" Mrs. Tessa continued "I don't think I can help her anymore, she'll probably not survive here if we don't take her to an actual physician",

"NO" Evans breathed out,

If Mrs. Becca had not been so close to her she probably wouldn't have heard Evan,

But she did and startled jumped away from where she was sitting, she looked at her son a little bit frightened not sure she heard correctly, speaking out in a tone that was meant to reassure herself she looked at her son and said "she just spoke"
