Sophia suck her teeth for a while and then nodded.
"you aren't good-looking" Sophia replied to him jokingly and curl her lips. David Farrowed and scowled. He glowers at her.
"Who told you-u you're good-looking?" she asked childishly and romantically winked at him, immediately he knew she was pulling his legs, and he sighed and simultaneously giggled.
"I'm not the ugliest guy on earth" he cares his cheek to his chin and pouts.
Sophia smiled at him and lean on the chair. Prince and Bella glanced at them as they exchanged words. They glare confusingly.
Sophia sat relaxing her back on the chair. They were four in the back seat, Prince sat beside David at one corner while Bella and Sophia sat at the other corner.
It was after some minutes, other students were coming as the bus stopped at their stations. Not quite long, Sophia suddenly raised her back and exclaimed "yes…!!" she stared ahead like she just remembered something. She wasn't staring at a thing specifically. They stared at her waiting and their ears ready to listen to what she was about to say.
"So about our story, should I continue," she asked Prince. He stared a bit and replied.
"Oh… if you wish to" David and Bella were kind of confused, they stared dumbly at them. They had no clue what they were talking about. What kind of story? Can it be tortoise stories or what were they talking about? David and Bella thought with these questions running through their minds. They moved to the tip of the chair to listen to the story she was about to tell.
"Okay…" Sophia announce when she was about to start telling her story.
"my story is kind of similar to yours. I'm from a Muslim home. My father is strict and my mother agrees with whatsoever my dad says when he's angry, but my mum chooses for us since she relates with us the most. I told them I wanted to become an actress"
Flashback
"mum…, dad…!" Sophia said to catch their attention. Her parent sitting on the white couch opposite her turned to her with the question 'what do you want' on their minds which they were about to ask but Sophia continued immediately. She gasped seeing their countenance.
"I've decided on what I want to become" she started playing with her fingernails. She was terrified, she couldn't but say it even though she knew their answer.
" I've made my research and I've decided to become an actress" she hung her head low expecting the answers she already knew.
She heard this humiliating sound of laughter from her dad, she glanced at him. Then her father, Mr. Robinson answered after some seconds.
"you already knew that that's a no-go for you, why do you always bring this up? I've told you it's a no-go. There are a lot of careers to pursue out there"
Sweat balls formed on her head immediately hearing those harsh words, she felt inconvenient sitting there. She wanted to talk back but she couldn't because she wasn't cool around her Dad.
"I've told you so many times but you won't listen" Mrs. Robinson added. Sophia sighed ignoring her mom's compliment sounding like abuse and asked,
"dad, what's your reason for that answer at least you'll have a reason or two to back up your point?" She asked staring directly into his balls.
"I have a lot of reasons. 1 assuming you're to act in a romantic scene, what will you do as a married woman?"
"I will ask if it was necessary for the movie, and if yes I will"
"Really…?" Mr. Robinson asked gently, he sounded like he wasn't satisfied with her answer, he wanted more reasons, and she thought fast.
"yes… but I'll never go nude in any movie no matter how much they are going to pay," she said with a little confidence.
"Okay… 2 why do you choose that as a career?"
The question made her puzzle. She looked down staring at the golden brown tiles, thinking about what she was going to say. She suddenly raised her head as if she has concluded or gotten a response. The inspiration got into her skull and started to come out of her mouth.
"1. I can't be a lawyer because I can't defend injustice and let the just suffer. 2… I can't be a journalist because I have no interest in it, it is not my kind of thing. 3… I can't study language, I have no passion for teaching, 4… like you all know I've been the best, if not the best, I've always been one of the top 3 actors in all drama clubs I've joined in my entire life so I see a future in this. Also, I've to say this, Funke Akindele is a lawyer, if she didn't become an actor, who would have known she existed? Many more were into other businesses and careers but they had a passion for acting and they became role models for the world to emulate. So I've concluded that I want to be an actor and show them what I'm made of and God's gift he has given unto me. I'm the future of Nollywood" she said into the air of the living room loudly.
She stopped after glancing at her parent's gaze. Their facial expressions were dead. Mrs. Robinson whispered to Mr. Robinson " I like her speech"
"Did she practice all this before or she got the inspiration from that seat?" Mr. Robinson asked Mrs. Robinson.
"I don't know" she replied. Sophia's heart started beating faster thinking if her plan will work or not.
"I think we should let her go for her wish…" Mr. Robinson asked his wife.
"no, I won't let her, we've talked about this. Tell her she can't and never become an actor or actress. I wonder who is teaching her against us?"
"Okay… Sophia, all those actors you mentioned are Christians and not like you. I won't let you dress worldly like that, over my dead body" Mr. Robinson said staring at her face.
"dad you have just been mean. There are a lot of Muslims in the industry. Mum tell Dad, you are part of their fan base Mum"
"Sophia, you're different, let others go for it. You're different don't you get it" Mrs. Robinson added.
"But mum…"
" Sophia!!! don't let me do the worst"
" mum, we have Lateef Adedimeji, Fathia Balogun, and a lot more, dad…" she said, tears forming in her eyeball. "okay… I agree we are different from them right, then why did you allow bro Akeem to study theater art in the university presently"
"he's a man and he can control himself, what do you think your husband will feel like seeing you on screen in a romantic position with another man all in the name of acting besides that, there is a lot more career to pursue through theater art, you can be a director, producer, and a lot more…"
" I know all that, mom dad this is my dream and I must go after them all I need from you is your respect. I only love you that's why I'm asking for your permission if I was…"
" Sophia!!!, that's enough…" He stood "let's end this here. If you want to be an actor then pay for your school fees and leave my house" he stood up and leave.
" Okay sir" she had no option, she knew whenever her dad is pissed off nobody can do anything about it, not even his mother, Sophia's grandmother, and wife, Mrs. Robinson her mother. Sophia stood and left for her room.
Present!!!
" Wow! Your story is touching" Annabella said staring at another student coming into the bus.
" So what are you going to do?" David asked immediately.
" I've planned to go for law as my mummy wishes and find a job, after that I will pursue my dreams of being an actress"
" Really, won't it be late then?" David asked. Prince nodded to her words, he got some idea from her.
" What about you been a lawyer?" Annabella asked. They were getting more interest in her story.
" I will handle the two jobs and if it doesn't work together, I will resign from being a lawyer"
" Wow!" David said.
"My parent gave me free hand to do whatever I wanted and they don't choose for me. They only asked me over and over again if I was sure of the career I chose, and I decided to be an entertainer. So I will be studying theatre art" Annabella said.
"Same here, my parent only counsel me about what I've decided to become and they asked me to impress them with more findings about it," David said.
Prince relaxed his back and started to think
'why was I not born into a family where I'll have to choose my career and no argument about it? I hate the family I was born into. I can't even boast of them, it's annoying but I've made up my mind and my decision to be what I want to be. I'll make sure my mother doesn't find any means to make jest of me later in life. I must succeed'
