Chapter 2 - chapter 2: Old habits.

Waking up at sunrise, a habit from his days as a farmer, Hitori contemplated his plans for the future while eating the breakfast of bread and bean soup the inn provided.

'In my past life I ended up dying like a dog while living like a cockroach because I was too weak to defend myself, I should strive to become at least strong enough to protect myself in this life. But how do I start?'

'I didn't know that I would get to come back to the past so I didn't make any effort to remember most important events in my past life.'

'As far as I remember the only important information I remember about future events is a small war between the land of fire and wind that should take place in half a decade and last for a year and the two strongest ninja clans the Uchiha and Senju ending their over century long conflicts and joining hands to establish a ninja village in 20 years from now.'

'Ninja...' Hitori thought. If he could become a ninja he would definitely become strong enough to at least protect himself from bandits. But ninjas were usually born into the trade as they were usually from a ninja clan.

Hitori couldn't possibly think of a way to join a ninja clan so he decided on an alternative.

'Ninja's aren't the only strong people in this world, Samurai, the military force under the Daimyo are said to be as powerful as the ninja clans, if not for that, otherwise the Daimyo wouldn't have any power.'

'That's it. For now I should focus on becoming a Samurai. Last time I sacrificed my pride to keep my life this time, if I become strong in the morning I don't care even if I die in the afternoon.'

That said Hitori wasn't suicidal just yet, in order to become a samurai he must first head to the capital. The journey was long and the road was full of bandits that's why, Hitori decided to put his newly acquired wealth to use and hit two birds with one stone.

Arriving in front of a small wooden building, Hitori entered, the inside of the small building had only one piece of furniture, a desk.

Behind the desk sat a middle aged man wearing a black kimono. His hair was pitch black and spiky and the eyes that looked up at Hitori were even more black.

In a fraction of a second Shusu completely analysed Hitori 'Stagnant small chakra, common clothes but clear skin and uncallused hands. A noble in disguise.'

Opening his sharingan he then noted, although his physical energy is even lower than average, his mental energy is almost high enough to qualify for being a ninja.

Of course Hitori didn't notice Shusu using his sharingan to size him up as he was wearing contacts that hid his sharingan.

After entering the house Hitori spoke, "Excuse me I would like to issue a mission."

Shusu smiled and said "Please have a seat."

Hitori was confused momentarily as there were no chairs but the next moment he watched with wide eyes as a chair faded into existence.

The Uchiha clan was known for being master of illusions, it seemed that information was true.

'I'll have to find a way to counter illusions.'

The mission Hitori issued was simple he asked for a group of ninjas to escort him to the capital.

He paid 60,000 ryo and was asked to come back in two days. As for having to pay before the job was complete, Hitori was helpless, besides if that ninja wanted to he could easily rob him blind.

Two days later, Hitori came back at the appointed time and met with his escorts, two ninjas one seemed to be in his twenties, the other was even younger than Hitori's current body, he seemed to have not even hit puberty.

Hitori didn't look down on him however and he would be proven right in his judgement over the week long trip.

Over their week traveling, They were ambushed by five bandit groups. Whenever that happened, the older ninja, stayed at his side to protect him while the younger one took care of the bandits, watching as a 10 year old kid swiftly annihilated large groups of burley men who could easily kill Hitori, Hitori couldn't help but feel shaken.

The older ninja, placed a hand on Hitori's shoulder and said "No need to be afraid Mr.Hitori we will make sure no one can touch you until you reach your destination."

Hitori, left unable to speak simply nodded.

"Civilians are unused to seeing the horrors of war, I should instruct Genji to tone down the gore on escort missions like these."

After one week, Hitori finally arrived at the capital and parted ways with the two Uchihas.

After asking around he finally arrived at where the samurai recruitment took place. It wasn't time for the yearly samurai recruitment, in fact, Hitori missed it by just a few days, so he would have to wait for another year.

Leaving the recruitment office, Hitori wasn't dissatisfied. 'No use crying over spilled milk, I should start getting situated.'

Hitori's only marketable skills were farming so after a few days of searching he finally got a job as a hand in a some samurai's field.
