Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

November 21st, 20XX

07:00AM

I wake up at the sound of the beeping alarm.

The more it beeps, the deeper the regret that I haven't ended my life already.

I force myself to stop the alarm and get up and ready myself for another hard day at work. Of course I will be trying my best to avoid working like I always do, considering that the pay isn't worth working hard enough to tire yourself.

As I get ready by eating, brushing and finally wearing some clothes, I depart.

Not to start a journey or anything but to wait there, outside my apartment. I wait for my colleagues who will drive me and themselves to our workplace.

After around five minutes of waiting they park the car in front of me and wave their hand, basically telling me to get in.

"Good morning."

"Good morning."

That's all for today's conversation with them. Just a greeting at the start of the day.

They're foreigners so I don't really understand their language.

They do tend to blast music from the radio though. It is the type of music I enjoy so that's okay.

07:45AM

We arrive at our workplace. Very excited about a day like yesterday, and other days before that.

Working here has provided me with the experience of regretting everything I've ever done in my life, and what I haven't.

After an hour or so I tend to go to the toilet, reason being is to avoid working. The way I do it is: I just leave for the bathroom and don't come back till the clock hits 10AM.

I told my bosses and managers that every 3 hours I have to go to the toilet, where I usually vomit because I have an illness called gastroenteritis. I do not have that. I faked the illness before when I was on my interview. But even if I had it, it's an illness that can be cured with proper medication and it isn't permanent. But they never bothered checking or researching about it.

06:00PM

This is the time when I leave from this shithole and go to my apartment. I go home with the same colleagues I come to work with.

They drop me off and leave.

I enter my apartment, everything looks the same way I left it when I went to work. Lonely.

After eating dinner I tend to play video games until around 9PM then watch a movie.

09:00PM

I realized I had no snacks. So I have to go outside and get some. The stores are a bit far from my apartment. A fifteen minutes walk. I grab my coat and leave.

Walking alone at this time, snow is falling, the city is empty for some reason but I don't really care, because honestly, it's better like this.

09:23PM

I finish my little snack shopping and leave the store, as I walk home I notice a woman with an orange winter jacket walking my way. As our paths collide, she opens her mouth and yells my name.

"Corbin!"

It truly was scary, to be yelled out of nowhere by someone who you didn't recognize. Especially at night, when there's no one around.

"H-Hello?"

"Corbin it's me!

It's Eri, we went to high school together, remember?"

"Oh Eri? I didn't recognize you."

"Well after high school I decided to cut my hair and dye them black, a little change doesn't hurt anyone."

She changed a lot from how she looked in high school, I almost thought she is just a stranger wanting to rob me.

"So how have you been Corbin?

Going to university ?"

"I quit university a few months ago, currently I am just working."

"Oh is that so?

I'm sorry to hear that. Was it because of some incident?"

"Nothing of the sorts, I just figured that I don't belong there.

What about you?

University?"

"Yeah, university and life in general has been going well for me actually. I think Law really suits me!"

"That's great Eri, I hope you make it till graduation and get the job you've always wished for."

"Thank you Corbin, I appreciate it!

It was so nice seeing you Corbin, after all this time. Maybe we should go out sometime."

"Yeah sure."

I tend to just agree with people whenever they say they want to go out with me. I know that's not actually going to happen. I've been through this enough times.

"So, what's your phone number?"

A question that I did not expect.

I type the number on her phone anyway.

Soon after we part ways, I realizeā€¦ this was the first interaction I've had with a woman in three months.

My chest feels warm now. Maybe, she will actually invite me for real.
