Chapter 12 - The Training Regiment

Archie watched as the class filled up with students. Johann and Michael didn't take this optional class, so he was from them for a while. The teacher of this class, a decently fit woman called Miss Stevenson, walked into the room. She sat down in her spinning office chair, letting it spin for a few seconds before it slowed down, facing the class. "Hello, class." Miss Stevenson announced, the students responding with a "Hello, Miss." that Archie didn't participate in. After all, how would a person who couldn't speak say hello to someone verbally?

"I hope you're having a good day so far, class. Today's lesson is about systems and their full power." Miss Stevenson told the class, which got Archie interested. 'Full power? I wonder how that would happen.' Archie asked in curiosity. "Everyone, take out your textbooks and head to page 104."

Everyone except for Archie took out their books. Archie didn't own one in the first place since he never needed it. "Now, your system is powerful in and of itself, but there are things you can do to increase your proficiency with your system." Miss Stevenson explained as she continued to spin around in her chair. It was a habit she had. "Such things include continuous use of your system, which means you'll naturally become more used to it. You should, at this point in your lives, have become proficient in using the abilities provided to you by your system."

Archie looked around, seeing that most people were looking into the book. He never expected people to pay attention, but as an outsider to this class, he didn't know how interested some people were in pursuing strength. Archie decided to take out his own book, The System Of Silence. He flipped to the page where it explained method one and then kept reading. The system in his head turned the pages into their document-like form.

[Now, to start this training method, you need to grab a few items.]

[1x Sticky Note]

[1x Pen]

[1x Bed (Or Equivalent Sleeping Device)]

[This used to be done on rocks, so it'll work on any surface that can move. You must write the words "NIGHT TERROR" along with specifics on how you want it to look on the sticky note. You could write, as an example, "NIGHT TERROR. Reptilian, Tall, Manipulates Fire". That could give you something like a dragon. You cannot predict what the system will provide, but if you write those descriptive terms, it'll do its hardest to follow those guidelines without making it an easy-to-kill monster. However, whatever you do, do NOT write "Easy To Kill" on the sticky note. If you do that, you will be forced to fight a monster nicknamed "The Bitchslayer". It was created by the system specifically to stop the last guy who wrote "Easy To Kill" on the Night Terror summoning rock.]

'Holy shit.' Archie thought to himself, eyes opened wide. 'The Bitchslayer? I honestly don't feel like dying, so I'll stay away from that.' Archie thought, completely forgetting that he was still planning to go through with this training method.

[Now, when you fall asleep, you will be forced into a happy hallucination. You must remember that it is a false dream, and that you are asleep. Once you realise that, you will be forced into the Night Terror itself. Once you enter the Night Terror's nightmare, make sure you locate the Night Terror before it attacks. If it attacks you first, there is no chance of you negotiating with it. You may be overwhelmed with fear due to just realising that your happy life was a life. You must overcome that fear and look around as quickly as possible. If you can see it first, make sure you assert your dominance by activating your silence sword and thinking about making a deal with the Night Terror.]

[Each Night Terror has a "Personality". These "Personalities" will change how you make a deal with the Night Terror. Ones that are upbeat or cheerful love joke answers. Sad Night Terrors like self-depreciating responses, while those that are formal enjoy business-like replies. You have to converse with these Night Terrors and figure out their personality in order to successfully become their friend.]

'Well, that's good and all, but how the hell am I going to talk to them? Write it out on a piece of paper?' Archie responded, trying to figure out why The System Of Silence wanted him to do.

[Now now, calm down. I hear you asking questions like, "How am I supposed to talk to the Night Terrors?" or accusations like, "I can't speak in the first place!" so I'm here to answer those questions for you. You're going to have to talk to them through your mind. One thing Night Terrors have is called a MIACPO, which we call M-Ports. MIACPO stands for MInd-ACcess-POrt. If we just used the first letters of each word we may have trouble on our hands, so we have to rename it to M-Port. Now, M-Ports can be accessed by willing to converse with a Night Terror. This isn't something you can do with a human, before you start getting any ideas.]

'I wasn't, but thanks for letting me know. I don't know why I'd even WANT to talk to some of these people.' Archie remarked, almost as if he hated the people in his class. In his defence, he did, but there was no need to make it so obvious.

[Once you and the Night Terror begin talking, you can propose your idea of a friendship to them. However, you will need to bribe them. If you can find something that they like, you can make them your friend easier. It could be anything from buying some trading cards or experiencing the "runner's high" up to feeling what it's like to be in a car or plane. If you can deliver on your deal, you will find making allies much easier.]

Archie finished reading that paragraph, hearing the ringing of the school bell signalling the end of the day. He was going to go home, wait until it was night-time and try deal with a Night Terror.

[Congratulations, Wordless Warrior! You've completed the "Make it through the following schooldays without arousing any suspicion" quest!]
