Chapter 1 - Prologue

Evelon: RY (Recorded Year) 1570

The sound of screaming. Crimson blood lined the ground as the sound of flesh being torn apart rung through the skies. The echoes of roaring flames filled the ears of those nearby, watching in horror as large grotesque beasts ran rampant through their lovely town. The outline of insects, humans, and even different animals could be seen terrorising the people there, monstrous additions such as extra limbs, larger frames or even multiple heads added onto them. Corpses lay bare in the streets, their clothes shredded and ripped open from the attack, their loved ones sobbing as they died beside them. The monsters laid waste to the town, destroying buildings indiscriminately, killing everything they could.

What had happened to bring such chaos to this seemingly-peaceful planet?

The Plague. An event foreshadowed by great monks of Ancient Times. In the year 0, the Ancient Monks, a specific sect of monks who could forsee the future, foretold of a great plague that would devastate their world. The people would be slaughter, all of their buildings would be razed to the ground, and all of their work would be for naught. The world thought of it as nothing more than a joke, as nobody though that such a serious event could ever occur. They slowly started to lose faith in the Ancient Monks, leaving them to be a sect which would die out in the following centuries.

Now, their prophecy was being brought to light. What they had spoke of had been true, and nobody realised that what was going on could have been prevented if they just listened to those Ancient Monks. The people had discarded their teaching, allowing them to dust away in the sands of time. This was their greatest mistake, and it certainly would not be their last.

The massacre went on for years. Nowhere was safe for humanity. Any child that was born was just a liability for the humans as its cries would alert monsters to their location. Seeing this world in its shambled state, the only god of this world, Olymer, decided to take action in order to help his people.

Olymer spent months crafting incredible systems, using invisible technology beyond what any world could dream of. Systems that would automatically assign themselves to humans in order to give them special abilities to help combat these threats. With this incredible technology, the humans would have a chance at combating these horrors.

He bestowed this gift upon humanities finest soldiers, and the first thing they did with it was go on a murdering spree. After all, they were suddenly gifted random powers by their only god. Their powers went rampant and they destroyed things nearby, trying to get their rampant powers under control. However, as soon as those powers were tamed, a single human was able to take on hundreds of those monsters with their newfound strength. However, with this strength came inequalities. Those with systems began to treat themselves as heroes, protecting those who did not have the luck to gain a system. Soon enough, they began to engross themselves in their greed, using their powers as a way to spread their influence in order for them to be lazy.

Revolutions followed soon after, as the humans who were not blessed with powers grew sick of those who paraded around like heroes. They would rather die to the monsters than be under the influence of these human fiends any longer. However, whenever they arose, they were quelled, as no amount of regular humans with their normal swords and shields could stand up to the raw power that the system-wielders possessed. This led to a sharp decline in the amount of people who had no system, eventually leading to people who had systems being almost the same as people without.

There was a realisation among them that they were doomed to extinction if they did not work together in order to survive. Towns were built to house all that were left, the monster population growing outside of the walls of these towns. Towns grew into cities over the generations, those cities eventually turning into full kingdoms. The amount of people who had systems compared to no system eventually turned from one-in-two to more like one-in-ten thousand as systems became commonplace. Not having a system was much rarer than having one. Further investigation led to the realisation that having a system was hereditary, meaning that if your parents both had systems, you were much more likely to have a system than not.

A saying became commonplace for when people complained about certain features of their systems. "Having a system is better than not having one at all". After all, systems only benefited the user. There was no downside to having one as only rewards could be obtained through it.

It has been exactly 450 years since the first town had been ravaged by monsters, as the Ancient Monks foretold. One prophet of the Ancient Monks talked about the prophecy after people began to disbelieve it, and although his words had been lost to time, he had said something along the lines of the following message.

"In under 500 years from The Plague occurring, a child will be born. He will have no powers, and to most people, will be completely useless. However, through the ambitions of the child, the world will usher in an era of cleanliness from the plague as he helps people to clear the planet of this great scourge!"

Of course, nobody believed him, and so his ramblings were thrown away by time itself, left as dead as the original prophecy of The Plague. However, this story follows the life of that child, born without a system, left alone to fend for himself as he tries to survive in a world where nothing but scorn is placed upon him.

As the world keeps looking down upon this child in question, how will he adapt to the situations brought to him and how will he cope knowing that he can no longer speak? After all, the System Of Silence is one of great rewards, but also one with a devastating loss.
