Chereads / Frieren: A Quincy's Journey / Chapter 3 - Decisions

Chapter 3 - Decisions

"Mister Yhwach!"

Opening his eye's Yhwach watched as Himmel arrived with his friend Heiter, who despite being older than the boy by 5 years still played with him.

It's been a a year since the stray demon had attacked and a lot has happened, one of the first things that had happened was that the villagers had all worked together to make a home for Yhwach. They couldn't afford to make an actual castle which Yhwach was fine with and he honestly had no need for a home as he preferred being outside.

But the Villagers couldn't bare for the spirit that have blessed them for a hundreds of years be homeless, Yhwach couldn't do anything as they insisted.

Surprisingly ever since Yhwach had killed the demon, only a few handful of demons had tried to approach the area but after that no monsters were even near the barrier which made the village known for being the safest place in the kingdom.

Yhwach could guess that it was due to his Reishi, he knew off the natural ability of Reishi to purge the very existence of a Hollow burning everything including their soul. He guessed that it also works for the monsters he killed in this world which was what he guessed was the reason for why no more demons came to harm the village.

He wasn't just slacking off this past year in fact he was not only training himself, but he was responsible for the training Himmel and Heiter were receiving.

Unlike Himmel, Heiter was a blessed child both by him and the apparent goddess of this world. Out of all the children in the village he was the most 'Quincy-Like' of them all.

That mean he had potential, and Yhwach who not only has the power to help the boy but also the knowledge thanks to being bedridden and had nothing to do but read books so he was well informed about training a Quincy.

His family may not be as powerful as the Ishida or as pure as the Kurosaki's, but what they lacked in power they make up for knowledge.

"Have you two been practicing?"

Yhwach asked already expecting the answer, Himmel froze up while Heiter could only scratch the back of his head.

"Uhm, Mister Yhwach y-you see I was busy helping with a sermon at the church."

Hearing Heiter's excuse, Yhwach deemed it a valid reason. The village only treated him as a protector and great spirit tasked to keep them safe by the order of the Goddess, he went with it as it helped having a backstory he could use. But that meant that despite them giving him offerings and praising him they still prayed to the Goddess.

"W-Well you see Mister Yhwach-"

"Himmel fell asleep tending to the horses at the stables."

"Heiter!"

Seeing how his friend quickly betrayed him, Himmel could only shake in fear a she turned to Yhwach who surprisingly would normally snap and make Himmel do gruesome training for the day.

Was sitting down with a conflicted and stern expression Himmel recognized it, it was the very same expression he made when he fought the demons that tried to attack the village with hordes of monsters.

"Do you think this is a joke Himmel?"

"I-"

Before Himmel could say anything, Yhwach stood up interrupting him with the same expression causing both boys to look down in fear.

"For the pass year I've been studying everything I can about the demons, and from what I've gathered they're heartless creatures that cannot and will not change."

He walked pass the two boys as went to the garden he would tend too as a hobby, he looked down observing the roses that had the color of both red and light blue. They were a flower native only to this land created by the influence of Yhwachs Reishi.

"They will not hesitate to destroy anything they see, even if you beg for mercy they won't care if you're a woman, child or even a baby."

Yhwach thought back to the demons he had killed, he had investigated their path of destruction and witnessed Horrors that made him vomit. Women still alive clinging to their dead children, infants impaled on spears which he later found out was a game to the Demons.

"In this world there is so much life and peace, I believe the reason I was created was to make sure it wouldn't be destroyed."

Turning around to look at the boys they looked at him with an ashamed Expression, Yhwach didn't want to be too harsh on them but they had asked him to train them to become the equivalent of Party of Heroes that will defeat the demon king.

"You two will fight me and land at least one hit on me, if you manage to do so I'll continue you training you both. If not then no matter what you say I will stop training you two. "

Yhwach waved his hand conjuring a flaming sword of his Reishi, the boys looked at him for a second Heiter obviously being nervous of the thought of fighting someone he considered a servant of the Goddess while Himmel stepped forward trying to say something.

But he barely dodged a slash of Reishi from Yhwach by moving away, and in his previous place was the dirt scorched by Yhwachs attack.

"You two seem to forget that I'm not someone you should underestimate."

Taking another step Yhwach disappeared from his position reappearing behind the two boys, Heiter took action by forming a bow of Reishi and dashing away before shooting an arrow at Yhwach who caught it with his hand.

Himmel unsheathed his sword from it's scabbard and used his Mana to strengthen his muscles, as unlike Heiter Himmel didn't have enough Reishi to actually form constructs.

TANG-

Yhwach didn't bother blocking it as the blade made a metallic sound as it bounced off his skin, he took a look a look at Himmel before he gripped the arrow Heiter fired at him shattering it.

Bzzzzzt-

Using the Reishi from Heiter's arrow he punched Himmel straight in the stomach sending the boy flying.

"Himmel!"

Heiter leaped up using his Reishi to boost him, barely catching Himmel with his hand.

"Heiter look out!"

Himmel screamed at Heiter who turned to see Yhwach missing from his previous position to only feel a sharp pain from the back of his head.

'His Blut protected him from taking the full force of my attack and passing out'

Yhwach tried incapacitating Heiter quickly but was left amazed by the boys resilience, He turned his eyes to see Himmel trying to him with a kick to the head but all he did was grab Himmels foot before pulling him towards him and throwing him to the ground.

Yhwach watched with an unreadable expression as both boys struggled to stand. Heiter panted heavily, Reishi flickering weakly around him, while Himmel shakily got back on his feet, gripping his sword tight.

"You two are far too reckless," Yhwach said calmly.

"You're acting as if your strength alone will make up for your inexperience. This is the difference between us."

He disappeared again, and both boys' eyes widened. They tried to track him, but Yhwach's speed was overwhelming. Suddenly, Heiter felt a fist slam into his gut, his body hurling backwards into the dirt with a thud. Himmel barely had time to react before Yhwach appeared in front of him, eyes cold and calculating.

"End it here, Himmel,"

Yhwach said, gripping Himmel's sword hand.

"You're not ready."

Himmel gritted his teeth, trying to pull free from Yhwach's iron grip. His whole body screamed in pain, and he felt the weight of defeat pressing down on him. But he refused to surrender after all the time he and Heiter trained to be a 'Hero'

"No… I won't give up here here!" Himmel roared.

Using the last of his Mana to enhance his strength, he pushed against Yhwach, surprising him. With a burst of desperate energy, Himmel twisted his body, his sword barely grazing Yhwach's cheek, leaving the faintest scratch on his skin.

Yhwach's eyes widened for a brief second, feeling the sting of the blade. He turned to the boy with a surprised expression.

Himmel collapsed immediately after, body exhausted, but a small smile tugged at his lips as he passed out.

Heiter, still conscious but barely able to move, looked at Yhwach with a mixture of disbelief and relief.

Yhwach gently touched the small scratch on his face, his expression unreadable for a moment before softening. He looked down at the two boys with approval.

"You've done well."

Despite their overwhelming odds, they had shown him something, determination, spirit, and the will to push beyond their limits. He would continue training them.

"You've earned it," Yhwach said quietly, before picking both boys up effortlessly, carrying them back to the village to recover.

"What I would give to have the ability to heal these two..."
