A muffled buzzing brings me from my sleep and I grogilly feel for my phone under my pillow till I feel it with my fingers and pull it out from the tangled mass of sheets that I'm buried in.
I squint my eyes to read the two notifications on the screen and simultaneously try to muffle a yawn using the same hand I'm holding my phone with.
With a grunt, I sit up and unlock my phone and tap on the messages that I realize are from River when my eyes focus enough on the screen to actually read the contents.
Ree: Hey? You up? 2:07 am
Ree: open up, I'm at the door. 2:08am
I slowly get out of my bed and head for the door. With a quick look at the webcam to confirm it's him, I unlock the door and lean on it lazily while I try my best to look as awake as possible.
"Sorry to wake you." He says in a low voice and I give him a dismissive nod as if to assure him that I'm not bothered.
