Chapter 63 - There's a traitor in the Master(1)

White light beam net from inside to outside quickly across, Luan Zhuo two people with almost no resistance to stop suddenly. Then, the whole body began to expand violently, after a continuous "bang" sound, only left a wriggling mush, flesh, and blood and bone mixed, where there is a half-human shape! As Luan Zhuo said, the seemingly not-hot beam will heat everything it touches. Some scorched blackness can also be seen in the remnants of the two people, which proves the terrible light network. The smell of the roast made Alan sick, and the mighty mercenary regiment was destroyed. Grenn was powerful, but Alan had no idea that he would be able to win at the hands of the Great Arcane Masters.

The light network pushed to the end, then stopped at the entrance and dispersed. And the surrounding walls of the flesh-and-blood paste, a gap opened, gush out a lot of viscous bacterial liquid. The slime, as if it had its spirit, quickly climbed up the blob of scorched paste and wrapped it.

Alan was horrified to see that, unlike the beds of fungi in the forest outside the base, where even a dagger would take a long time to corrode, the bacteria from the corridor had assimilated the paste in a matter of seconds, leaving no other color visible in the green of the eyes. The floor under the corridor opened, and the liquid bacteria that had completed the task dropped straight down. As the floor closed tightly again, the light-net corridor became quiet again, erecting the last trace of the intruders' presence just as Alan had entered it, except that the two mercenary men lying in the entrance room were gone.

The problem came back to Alan.

Alan had not expected such a radical action from Luan Zhuo, and he could not even stop it. No wonder, though, that the Sellsword had nearly killed Alan, had been caught by him at his weakest moment and had failed even in their only counterattack. Was there any other way but into the corridors of the light network? In this way, Alan was able to demonstrate for himself what kind of attack this terrible corridor was, which Alan could only imagine through Luan Zhuo's description, but now he had experience. The mesh of the optical network is so dense that no one can get around it through physical surgery. If it is a few simple beams, it is still possible.

This meant that Alan could not force his way through, but had to get around it in some other way. After all, Alan's three-legged cat's skill would not have allowed him to pass a hundred meters in a few seconds, and the designer of the defense corridor would not have been so foolish as to let a man pass at a gallop. There must have been some other countermeasure. Alan recalled the hologram he had found at the ground level, and it seemed that this corridor was the only way down to the lower level, and unless some hidden passage had not been marked, Alan would have to go through it.

The way ahead is blocked. The way out is broken.

Alan felt his scalp tingling, but fortunately, he had found enough supplies to give him time to think slowly. The room at my feet was about ten square meters in size, with a long light-net corridor at the front and a staircase at the back where Alan came in, but in the middle, it was empty except for a console-like device near the entrance to the corridor. Alan walked over to the console, which needed an unusual diamond as an extra power source, and at the touch of his finger a holographic projection popped up, square and full of germyl text. Alan, as usual, could not understand anything.

Alan was filled with the anguish of being so afflicted by the problem of language that he swore to himself that he would go back and beat the man who had told him that 'the Bacterial were of no use in human incantation'. There are indeed many pronunciations that a human throat can't pronounce, but these words are useful! It was no use complaining now. Alan had to give up the console for the time being until he could see if there were any hidden passages in the walls.

As he banged on the walls, Alan scraped carefully with Arcane energy to see if there might be an Arcane rune hidden somewhere as a switch, or if there might be a hidden room just behind one of the walls.

However, no.

Again, no.

Checked the floor again. Still no sign.

After the third time, Alan wanted to slap himself in the face. If there were compartments in the walls, it would be a ghost! If the people who designed this base put something like this in there, then what's the point of this corridor?! If the promenade is so well fortified, then everyone who wants to get to the lower level will have to go through it, unless the base designer gives the base a back door.

Alan could only return his attention to the console, and looked back and forth several times at the Germinal words, but could not see the way. The language of Myceliki belongs to a language family so different from the human language that its rune-like characters would have been enough to defeat linguists and Arcane experts in implantology. Alan looked at the characters one by one, the meaning of which he had not yet figured out, but the runic application of which he had thought a great deal. An hour later Alan had guessed only a few possible grammatical uses for high-frequency characters but had no idea what they meant.

With a shake of his dazed head, Alan decided to pause. Taking his supplies out of his bag, Alan sat down to rest and reflect, leaving the hologram on his console.

It is a dead end to keep the specific meaning of one character by one. After a moment's reflection Alan concluded that, no matter how good he was at linguistics, he would not be able to decipher the contents of such a passage in a short time, and even if he did, it would not necessarily help him get through the corridor. If it was just a warning, or a need for further passwords, or something like that, Alan would have wasted all his work.

With a canteen in one hand and a quick meal in the other, Alan stared at the words on the projection from a distance, and as if he had entered a palace of mind, he saw a few characters he did not understand rise before him. At first glance, these characters are painted in a somewhat different style. Most of the other characters are rounded, and only these characters can be seen with obvious edges and corners. And the edges don't seem so harmonious, more deliberate. As Alan chewed his food, trying to put the strange characters together, he put them back and forth to see just how small the trick was.

It's a clone of Sher's silent self!

Each strange stroke is taken out separately and replaced with a topological figure, which is just a letter of Shernabil, but they are mostly written in different characters! After many repetitions, Alan had a complete version of Shellner's word, with a less common spelling and many different pronunciations!

"Sentient beings... Mycelium... Dear God... Stupid..." Alan was presented with four of the words, and with a flash of inspiration when he moved his eyes, he connected an incantation with it.

All living beings see only the spirit of the spirit and human folly.

"But... Under God... All men are equal?" Alan followed the second half of the sentence from memory, with a heavy sense of uncertainty in his voice, for after all he had only been given four words, who knows if they had been taken from that sentence or not. What's more, Alan did not know the Bacterialese language, and had he imagined the silence of Shell hidden in it? Alan wasn't sure.

It was this question that set off the console mechanism, and just as Alan's jaw dropped, a silent Shell burst into the room: "Automatic Defense is down, rebooting..."

It's off?!
