Chapter 54 - Review The Event

I'm at Ayaka's house after returning from my trip. I'm here to talk about what happened yesterday regarding a thief breaking into her house in the middle of the night. They're supposed to go to school and work but because of the event, they can take a day off to rest and let go of the traumatic experience. I don't know that they're generous even to let them take a day off, especially Ayaka since I kept seeing her free from work. I need to talk about it with her too after this.

I sit on the sofa in the living room with my younger sister, Erika, and her best friend, Rina while her big sister, Ayaka is making tea in the kitchen even though I already told her she doesn't have to. She's pretty stubborn, huh?

Rina just keeps taking a quick look at me, shyly, and thought I won't notice. Erika ignores me and keeps her eyes on the show on the television. What? Not even a 'hi'? What did I do to make you won't even looking at me? Did I do something wrong?

While I'm wondering the reason, Ayaka brings tea and four cups on the tray. She puts it on the table and pours tea into each cup, grabs her part, and sits on the sofa opposite me. Erika and Rina grab theirs and sit next to their own sibling, Erika at my right while Rina at her left. Now that everyone is here, let us begin the review!

I ask them about what happened last night and Erika answers in their regard since she was the one who take down the thief. She explains everything that happened without missing a single detail even about their girls' time. I don't think you need to tell me about that, Erika. They look embarrassed when she tells me about it. See, they feel embarrassed.

I understand everything now and I'm proud of for her being able to take down the man with the stun gun I gave her! The weapon is not wasted, then. Furthermore, Ayaka continues to tell her part after she took down the man about how she had to do some paperwork at the police station. After that, they came back home and felt tired but couldn't sleep. So, they stayed up until morning and couldn't go to school and work.

I thought everything are done but Rina wants to add her part of the story about she took back the stolen items from the bag of the thief. She says that it was mostly the items from the living room and the kitchen like lamps, money that was hidden in the drawer, a few pills of medicine, etc. It's weird actually why he stole only on the first floor and not on the second floor where their bedroom is located and most of the valuable items are stored there. Hmm, suspicious.

Everyone thinks the same and comes out with a few theories. For example, after he stole all the items he wants before he goes upstairs, he takes a break by eating some leftovers in the fridge. But, he makes noises and wakes up Erika and she took him down with the stun gun, making him couldn't continue his evil deeds. This theory is most logical based on the information we have.

Then, I ask something that I'd been wondering about the first time I heard the news. "Ayaka-san, your family is part of the influential family, how can a thief break into your house just like that? Don't you have some kind of security or something that can prevent any threat?" She's part of the influential families in the country and has a big name but after her parents died or went missing, her family's name plays no part for others.

She looks sad but still answers my question. She says that since it's not decided yet whether her parents died or not, she can't heritage their wealth but she has to become the new head of the family. Workers who used to work here left because she can't pay them their salaries. Now, there's no one to protect them from danger and she can't do anything about it.

Wow, what a story. Those people are horrible to leave them alone just because she can't pay them money. Like I always thought, people like them were only there because they were paid to do their jobs.

The environment feels gloomy after she told the story. To escape from that vibe, I say to them that I can give them stun guns if they want in case of emergency and they gladly accept. I'll give it after I go home because the items are there and I'm not home yet.

It's time to go back, I tell Erika to grab her bag and thank them for the tea and information about the event. She goes to the guest room, packs up, and leaves the room with a bag in her hand. I get up from the couch, thank them again, and leave. She also thank them for letting her stay for a few nights.

We leave her house and walk back to our house. On the way, she tells me something, "Big bro, there's something I didn't tell you yet. I can't before because I don't want them to hear about it. I found something on the thief after he passed out and I want to ask you if you know something." What is it that makes you can't tell them? Is it something serious? She says she'll tell me when we arrive. *Sigh* Be patient.

We arrive, go in, and sit on the couch in the living room. Then, I ask her what information she has regarding the thief. She says that she found a tattoo on his right upper arm and its shape is a circle with the number one inside it. She asks me if I know something about the tattoo but I never see a tattoo like that before. It could be a symbol of the group or it's just a normal tattoo.

Based on my experience, I've never seen a group with a tattoo like that, even if it's a symbol of the group, maybe it's just a new group that causes trouble. I can't tell her that, though. I can't let her know about my horrible past because she's my sister and I don't want her to be involved at all.

So, I just tell her I don't know anything about it. To avoid her asking me any more questions, I ask her what she wants for lunch as it's time to have one. I think she feels weird when I suddenly ask her that because of her face. Ask a make-sense question next time, idiot! Now, she's suspicious of me.

I know she wants to ask more questions but she decides to hold it because I can hear her stomach growling, hungry for food. I ask her again, "What do you want for lunch, Erika?". This time, she won't beat around the bush and actually says what she wants. She wants ramen for lunch. Really? Ramen for lunch? Don't you want anything else? ...Okay, I'll make two then as I'm too lazy to make different food for myself, so I'll have the same.

...................................................

After we were done with lunch, I almost forgot to tell her something. So, before I wash the dishes, I tell her to not go yet and sit still on the chair. "Erika, the recent event has opened my eyes to a possible future, and I want you to be safe in that future. I think it's time for you to learn how to defend yourself if a similar event happens again. If you have at least a basic knowledge of martial art, you can use it to escape from danger or bad people."

"Hmm... yeah, I understand your concern, big bro. Okay, I want to learn, too. So, what martial art I'll learn and where's the place I can sign in?" That's quick. I don't know that she wants to learn a martial art if I know this before, maybe I've already taught her some moves. "Hohoho, there's no place because I, your big brother will personally teach you everything you need to know about martial arts."

"Huh? Since when do you know martial art, big bro? I never see you training before. Heck, I don't even know you took a class before." Ooooh my sister, my dear little sister, you don't know anything about your big bro like you thought you are. There is so much more you don't know about me and I'll not let you know. Let it be a mystery. For now, let's get you to prepare for the training and remember this, I'll not be easy on you just because you're my sister.

Narrator: Ohohoho, Kai, Kai, she'll know. She will know. It's just not the right time for her to know the truth yet but she'll know and you have to be blamed.
