Chapter 222 - Going Up

Jason walked through the woods at a steady pace, his demeanor completely changed compared to before, he walked with a straight back, never looking around, simply emptily staring at what was in front of him.

Never even bothering to try and push foliage away when it got in his sight and blocked his way, he was locked onto a location and as long as the obstacles weren't insurmountable, he would carry on in a straight line.

Still wearing the clothes he had had when he was transported to this world, he was holding no weapons for the moment and simply pressed up against a tree as the ground started making a sharp slope and looked over at a line of caravans.

He could see bits of blood here and there, they had been attacked by something and this had resulted in all of them being stuck here at the moment it seemed, the road in front and before had been blocked by multiple trees, which had been cut in advance to box any vehicle in.

Jason and his master had nothing to do with this but this a bountiful opportunity for the masked man, these people didn't seem to have the tools necessary to get rid of those trees easily and seeing their demeanors, they were still expecting another attack.

The bloodstains had been made when the trappers had showed up to try and pick their prize up, only, they must have overestimated themselves and were forced to ultimately fall back.

Jason cocked his head to the side, deciding on who would be his first victims.

With abnormal stealth, he moved to the other side of the road without anyone noticing him, only feeling a cold shiver on their back a few moments after he had simply walked through the road near them.

The people of the caravans didn't dare venture out of the safety of their group and had thus chosen not to follow the bloodtrail left by one of their attackers.

Only a few hundred meters away, Jason came upon a small cabin next to a cave entrance, the cave itself wasn't deep at all, it was put an empty room in the side of a hill, inside, various bandits were either going around or trying to recover from their injuries.

All of them seemed quite bitter about their loss against what they had believed to be easy preys, Jason simply stood at the edge of the tree line until he saw one of them walking a bit into the woods, away from the group.

Without hesitation, the masked man followed after him, the bandit had broken off from the others to go take leak, nothing unusual to do by oneself since apart from from them, these woods were quite safe.

Complacency was an insidious poison.

As the bandit was busy emptying himself on the unsuspecting insects below, Jason walked up behind him, not making a sound as he kicked pebbles and stepped on twigs.

Without any hurry, whilst being barely ten meters away from the bandit, Jason looked around and soon picked up a rock, it had fairly round edges and was larger than his hand but still perfectly carriable.

He weighed the rock a bit before raising his head to looked the back of the bandit.

He started walking up to him a bit, stepping on the carpets of small pebbles that laid there and stopped a few meters behind him as the bandits finished up and quickly turned around.

Coming face to mask with a complete stranger, the bandit instinctively wanted to yell out but was interrupted as Jason smashed him in the temple with a rock.

Jason dropped the stone and put his foot on the man's chest, leaning down as he grabbed a handful of pebbles and grabbed his face.

Forcing his mouth to open before stuffing him with pebbles, silencing him as he slowly suffocated while trashing around in a death struggle.

After the bandit stopped breathing, Jason removed his foot and felt the surge of power coming with his first kill, outwardly, he only stared up a slight bit.

He then looked down at the weapon the bandit had been carrying, he was quite ill equipped, a kitchen knife wasn't the sort of equipment one would expect from a highway man.

Jason was complaining however and grabbed the knife, the steel soon rusted over completely as he held the weapon, he looked at the edge of the blade for a few moments before silently turning around and heading back to the rest of the bandits.

A lot of them had been injured and were currently resting, they had lost their fair share of blood and were feeling anemic as a result, only two were unharmed but one was in the cabin while the other just sat without looking around.

These guys were simply not expecting any troubles, even after failing a robbery, they couldn't fathom the idea that one of their attempted victims would come after them.

They had lived in illusion of safety for a long time.

Jason arrived behind the one that was sitting and plunged the knife through the top of his head, the blade sunk all the in, reaching down, just above the throat area.

He seemed to have a seizure fora few seconds before going limp, his chair had fallen over but his body was still held up by Jason through the knife in his skull.

The killer simply dropped everything and reached for an axe the bandit had next to him, it was a woodcutting axe but still a deadly weapon.

The axe head rusted as he held the handle and soon enough, Jason was butchering the injured one by one, usually targeting their necks to prevent them from making a sound.

Pushing a rolling head off to the side, ignoring the terrible expression on its face, Jason made his way up to the cabin, it had no windows and the person inside was busy doing something it appeared.

Jason didn't even question how he could know all of this and just walked into the cabin, bloodied axe in hand.

"Hey, didn't I told you all not-" the man suddenly stood up from his seat and put his hand on the sword strapped to his waist after seeing the blood-covered man standing in front of him.

However, he couldn't reach for anything as he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder.

Jason had throw the axe, pinning the bandit against the wall behind the man.

The bandit spoke some nonsense as Jason simply walked up to him and grabbed his head, a quick twist and crack later, everyone was dead.

Jason grabbed his sword, looking at it as it rusted just like everything else and then set out to finish what those bandits failed to accomplish.

"Ten" he said, feeling so much more powerful than before.
