Chapter 146 - Dead Man's Wish

Ingratitude's teeth grinded as he focus, dodging a rock the size of his skull by stepping to the side, the ground shook as if a small earthquake had just awoken, his footing slightly swayed but he still managed to avoid a whole tree falling from above.

He stumbled to his right, this was when he sensed it, the dreaded club emerged from beyond the limit of his vision.

Surprisingly enough, as the bludgeoning weapon shattered his lower jaw into oblivion, the lesser sin only found himself thinking like an undead, the throw of obstacles somewhat stopped during that time, it brought a certain peace of mind that she was at least alone, even if it didn't help him in the slightest.

He heard the system speak in his cranium, informing him of how many HP he had lost with that blow, not that it mattered much, more was coming, the direct it had completely broken any mana usage for him, he couldn't see, hear and feel anything anymore, he couldn't even feel his body spinning from the strike, it felt just like death.

"Not yet!" he spoke aloud as he forced his unstable mana to reform into their original constructs only an instant after the blow.

He forgo restoring his hearing or anything that didn't matter, he sensed in the direction of the heroine, seeing her already ready to destroy his bones.

Seeing the club nearing him, he understood that this could very well be his death, that there would be no other chances after that one and that only one place would await him in the afterlife, he wouldn't enter the heavenly kingdom of the god of control even if offered to.

He feared death, for it would mean the end of his crusade and also because the simple concept of it made him shake uncontrollably, he was no pure undead.

His right hand cracked loudly as the fused fingers detached from one another as he sent it forward, focusing his unsteady holy energy to stop the club from reaching its trajectory.

His whole body trembled and his right arm visibly cracked under the heavy pressure, it would snap at any moment.

His left hand cracked in a similar fashion, the fusing coming undone as well at his feet as he dug his toes into the ground.

He tried using his left hand to pierce the abdomen of the heroine, he thought that he would make it for sure but it was nothing but hope plaguing his mind.

Grabbing the other end of her club, she violently twisted it, snapping his right arm in an instant before smashing his left arm to dust in the next moment, with a few more swings as the sin stepped back, nothing was left and his arms at all and his ribs were in a sorry state.

He fell onto one knee, armless and with his mana too disturbed to do anything consequential, he resigned himself, he couldn't outrun her without any support from his holy energy, it was all he could do after all, his holy energy could be used in a variety of ways, he could shape it into other elements as well if necessary but that was out of his reach now.

That woman, this heroine, she didn't seem much more powerful that the priestess he had faced, Ingratitude had been equally matched with that priestess but he had been completely decimated by this one.

Even though, he should have had the advantage, as a lesser sin, as an undead, as a skilled cleric.

In a direct confrontation, he doubted she would have been able to approach him at all, her magic disruption only worked on the individual and not spells after all.

'I was a fool, I shouldn't have rushed in!' he thought as his death neared closer and closer.

"Are you grateful of what you were given?" he asked absentmindedly, using what he had left to speak.

Ilmna was just about to smash his skull in, paused for a second at the genuine question.

"It allows me to swing my club better and more freely, so yes I guess" she simply responded before swinging her goendendag, breaking the whole chest of the sin and detaching his skull.

"You are a hero aren't you? You do what is right?" she simply nodded, not that it meant much to her, she had never pondered what being a hero chosen by the system entailed.

"Please, make sure the god of control steps down from his throne" he said before his skull cracked in its center and the kill notification appeared in front of Ilmna.

The lesser sin's remains glowed in a bright light for a moment before darkening with a vile shade and disappearing.

The heroine taped her club lightly on her shoulder in silence for a few moments, before loudly celebrating.

"How's that Milleral? I can't wait to see your face when I tell you that I defeated a lesser sin by myself!"

"It will be hilarious indeed!" she added while looking at her weapon.

"Mmh? What are you saying?" she put her ear close to the goendendag and listened attentively to its silent words.

"Ah yes, what even is that 'god of control'? He sounded pretty serious about that, if a sin is worried about this guy, then it must be pretty bad" she talked by herself right next to the place Ingratitude had just massacred as if nothing had happened.

"We'll have to ask mister smart man after I rub my achievement in his face" she concluded her monologue with her club before running off, not even slightly cleaning the mess she had left behind.

She had unrooted whole trees and thrown boulder all over the place, the idyllic landspace had been transformed into a site of destruction.

The heroine didn't give a damn about all of that, including the corpses of the people inside of the church, someone else would have to take care of all of that.
