Chapter 81 - The Definition Of Madness

Grayson did manage to get a little bit of information but it wasn't very much at all and it seemed like it was the most information anyone would be willing to let go of, the mastermind was going to warn anyone they would try to shake some intel out of.

And since he knew of his ability, they would too and then would not let go of any information even if they killed him, Laura didn't know of his ability but she and the others would most likely pick up on the fact that they were chasing trails that wouldn't bear any fruits.

'Does she have another idea in mind?' she always seemed certain of herself, doubtless, as if convinced that things would work out.

There was also the fact that she seemed to have complete trust in his 'visions of the future' even if they were oddly specific and always contained the exact information needed.

The first attempt after the initial boarding of the ship had had the most informations learned, after that, the biggest thing he had managed to get was her name, which was Mansana, apart from that it was useless intel and him getting made fun of.

There was also the fact that she wasn't even trying to detain him despite knowing of his ability, it was like the mastermind wanted them to progress further.

'He must be overconfident if he thinks that it's a good call' thought the otherworlder as they sailed away from the bizarre ship, no cannonballs came for them as they moved back into the dense veil of the fog, the ship disappearing in an instant.

From Mansana's perspective, it was as if they approached her ship and almost immediately went away, even if she knew what was at work, it was still strange, unlike Theli, she couldn't retain her memories from previous loops.

As she wondered about various thing, her ship lightly swayed, indicating that she should focus on something below.

"How many times do I need to teach you this lesson?" she spoke out loud as the bottom of the ship morphed, stabbing in the water underneath, colouring the obscur waters crimson for a moment as the creature yelped and swam away as it always did.

From the perspective of the feeling group, which was still in the fog by now, the yelp was closer to the door of hell opening than a pained sound coming from some fish.

"I hope we won't have to take any more ships" muttered Jake as he sat in corner, trying to position himself in a way that would prevent him from swaying around.

Grayson was wondering if he should ask Laura what it was that she was trying to do, he could guess something but the fact that she hadn't said anything about such a mundane thing somewhat made him believe that it wasn't it.

'Maybe I am just overthinking it and she just forgot to elaborate on the whole thing?' he had a hard time getting a read on her, Grayson had always had a knack to read people but ever since he had been taken to this world, he noticed that he only managed to read other otherworlders, the residents of this world were simply too different to get a good understanding of and Laura seemed more like them than an otherworlder now.

'What could that mean?' indeed, what could this all mean?

Arising with a sudden jerk, Gregory found himself resting face first into mud, struggling to raise his face as it had hardened, he breathed in and out, his messy brown hair were frozen in place by hardened mud as well, his face was unrecognisable behind the cracked mask he currently had stuck to his face.

He had no idea how much time had passed since he had escaped from the lake but his stomach hurt and growled like a mad beast, he felt somewhat thinner, he felt different.

For a few moments, he wasn't sure where he was or what he had been doing but the memories soon came flooding in, he stayed put, as if his time had stopped, his expression hidden behind the mask of mud.

Without a sound, he started crawling forward, digging into the soil with his fingers to drag his body forward, naked and filthy, he looked and smelled no different than a wild beast, he crawled at a steady pace despite his weakened body, heading straight for something without realising it.

He slowly grabbed small mouse from the ground, it seemed like it hadn't seen him coming at all, only trying to escape when it was too late, he held it by its small tails, dangling it above his open maw and dropping it in without hesitation, crushing the living mouse in between in teeth.

He felt its paws scratching against his tongue and cheeks, uselessly struggling as its intestines came flowing out, not paying attention to the horrible taste of the mouse's wastes, he kept on crawling, grabing bug and small animals in his reach, each of them failing to take notice of the obvious and slow danger heading for them, the bottom part of his mud mask had been covered with fresh blood, weakening the dry mud and making it break off.

Devouring raw animals like that should spell his end but he regained his strength and soon stood up on his two feet, he peeled off the mud on his face, revealing wide eyes, staring forward as if focused on a single thing.

He looked up, some sunlight hitting his palish body as he opened his mouth for something else than eat, he stayed with his mouth agape for a few minutes before gritting his teeth and screaming at the sky.

No one responded to him, whoever it was that he was screaming at, they were unresponsive to his call.

He turned back and went back toward the lake to drink some water, doing so by plunging his whole head underwater, causing a circle of brown and red to form around him as his frozen in place hair fell back down.

Instinctively, he grabbed an unlucky fish, just like the other animals, it had failed to notice him, the animals simply couldn't detect him, the only things that had avoided him were monsters and beasts with capacities beyond that of their bodies.

Gregory scowled, his face contorting in an unthinkable way, his eyes popping out of their sockets for a few moments as he heard a sound coming from behind him.
