Chereads / Volition / Chapter 74 - Hey

Chapter 74 - Hey

The lich was sitting on her new throne, now situated in UCT instead of a random cave.

She looked at the bony palm of her larger hand, thinking deeply about something, the sins and her had remained low for a while now, after Gluttony massacre on the people of Lacam anyways.

Wrath was busy with her own thing, Greed was unnoticed as her and a petty thief were basically the same, Envy was learning to use her powers with Theli and Sloth was doing nothing.

Lust had been busy tormenting an otherworlder and it seemed like she would soon be concluding her preliminaries, something the lich wouldn't want to know about but it was clear that Lust would talk about it in length.

Gluttony had changed her diet after some convincing and went after more special meals instead of quantity, Pride had went around 'convincing' the lesser sins to stay put until further notice, only Indifference had not listened but he had ended up chosing to stop after a while and had been unseen by the public ever since.

All of the other lesser sins had stayed hidden, soon would be the time to let them loose.

Narik, the necromancer had been doing small errands in between finding horns he liked, which basically meant that he would focus on something until a horn came into vision.

As for the inscrutable human, the lich looked up and saw him, sitting on a chair that wasn't here originally while smoking from a wooden pipe.

"It has been a while Ithelisemou, what brings you here?" she asked the human, she knew that he had been causing chaos in Laparadi but he hadn't actually showed up before her to inform her of such a thing.

She couldn't guess whether it had to do with the activities of her and the sins or if it was just something he was doing on his own.

She would have more success trying to read the facial expressions of a skeleton.

"What else would I be here for? I came to see you" Theli stood up from his chair, which vanished alongside the wooden pipe.

He walked up to her, getting to close for comfort, staring right into her hollow sockets.

"You know that there are seven main sins in total, at least from what you would hear around" he began saying, his arms placed on each side of her, as if he was pinning her against wall.

"I am not sure I get what you mean" she responded simply.

"What is your name?" the two of them stared at each other, one emptily and the other with a strangely seductive look.

"How do you know?" since he seemed to already know all of the answers to his questions, the lich instead asked something else.

"I have many ways of knowing but for this, I just needed to think a bit and to a quick check to your status, the security isn't very tight, ma belle" he got a slight bit closer as the lich remained unmoving.

"Honestly..." he moved back ever so casually, as if he hadn't almost smooched a skull.

"...It is quite peculiar to hide that you are also a sin when nearly everyone here is" he crossed his arms, turning his back to the lich.

"If anything, it would be something to use as an excuse to try and bond over, you plan to expand the land of the undeads to get some glory don't you? Having a good relation with your allies is never a bad idea, after all, while the saying tells to keep your enemies closer, you are still meant to keep allies at a good distance" he said while moving his raised index finger in the air.

"You are too cautious Vainglory, why not relax?" he put a strong emphasis on that last word as he turned back to face her, raising his eyebrows multiple times.

"..." Vainglory stayed silent for a few moments.

"You are an enigma of a human Theli, doing all of this to then suggest I should 'relax' with you, I am a skeleton, that is unimaginable" she responded.

"Glad to see your mind directly went to that idea and it is perfectly imaginable, I did it many time with skeletons" he revealed.

The two of them stared at each other in silence for a long while.

The sweet light of the morning shined through iron bars, granting a little bit of light to the man emprisoned inside of the cell, despite the kind gift, the man didn't even attempt to bask in the warm light.

He stayed laying on his bed, which was nothing but a piece of rock carved to vaguely look like the shape of a bed, he was awaiting his sentence for attacking a noble.

The man, whose nobility was only in title, had been extorting money to the poor in a vain wish to expand his own wealth even further, the imprisoned man hadn't attacked him for that but only when the noble had decided that selling his people into slavery would be of greater benefit.

Truly, the jailed man wasn't certain why he had done this, he had never cared for others, he had no one to protect in particular and had been under no threat of enslavement as he worked in the fields, the noble wouldn't have given the people he used to grow his crops away.

It was like a devil had taken possession of him, he heard a voice, the moment he had been within grasp, he took hold of a knife he had on his person and slashed at his throat, the noble's fat had protected him for death and the attacker now laid in jail.

He most likely wouldn't be executed and instead emprisoned but it didn't matter much anymore.

The voice spoke again, the man turned to its source as he noticed the light of the sun disappearing.

A handsome man's face was peeking from beyond the bars, only his head was visible and he exerted a certain presence that made him appear as a light brighter than the one he had covered.

The convict looked at him.

"Hello, I saw that you had been unjustly locked up, your act was logical and deserved, do not wallow in guilt and sadness my child, your mission is yet from being over" spoke the man from behind the bars.

He had long dark hair and light yellow eyes, his expression was calm and comforting, each of his words was heard.

"My child, you must finish what was started! You must bring justice! You are on the right path and those that try to stop you are onward toward corruption! You are the hammer of justice! The gods guided your hand! You are a chosen one! Kill the noble! Finish him off! Slit his greasy throat! Mutilate his corpse! Demonstrate rightful wrath! Eliminate all who get in your way! You are the vanguard of the gods!"

The jailed man seemed to blank out as his eyes darkened, unable to take notice of the maddened tone the man had taken halfway through his speech.

Seeing the prisoner, the man smiled, his smile was abject and devoid of anything good, the sort of smile a murderer would have upon dreaming of his past killings.

"Good, good, use this to enact justice" he said as the same knife that had slashed the noble's throat dropped in front of the prisoner.

The man took hold of the knife, his eyes darkening more and more as time passed.

Moving away from the bars, the other man disappeared, ready to watch the carnage unfold, the prisoner never would have know but the man he had spoken to had no body, he had just been a floating head.

Once guards came to get the prisoner, they were killed swiftly, unfound strength and powers coursed through the prisoners body as he killed, a righteous act from his point of view.

This accident, was the first act of Corruption, the lesser sin.

It was unknown that he was involved to most, one of the few aware of that fact, started pulling on his chains, he hadn't attempted to break out for years as he stayed forgotten in an underground prison that had since long been sealed.

He had accepted his punishment without resistance but now that Corruption had acted, he would have to sin again and leave before completing his sentence.
