The dark beast was seemingly completely uninjured, as it dexterously moved around as if ignoring gravity itself.
Molarine had managed to move it because it was already in the air but upon contact, it was clear that this beast was too heavy for anyone to push around.
"What the hell..." muttered Molbas as the animals of the forest showed up in response to the howl, all of them it seemed, even the worms where coming out of the ground in response, drying up under the heat on the surface, flocks of various birds flew in a circle above the group.
Calling reinforcement wasn't the beast's objective however, it let out a second, much more dreadful than the last, howl which paralysed everyone due to its sheer intensity, their ears started to bleed and felt like something had just punched their souls.
Like a macabre bombardement, the birds fell from the sky, crashing into the trees and onto the ground, the other animals also suddenly died, their bodies were stiff as though they had been stuffed on the spot.
The effects of this massacre were apparent as the already suffocating bloodlust of the beast seemed to grow into a being capable of attacking by itself and the creature directed it toward the group in full.
By all accounts, if this went on for a bit longer, the intense bloodlust should be able to take them all out.
However, the dark beast felt a subtle weight being added on its back and saw a colorful feather float down in front of its eyes.
"BiaTch! CaKAkee!" it heard a most annoying voice followed by the sudden feeling that the surrounding mana was being sucked in.
'Why was the parrot left unaffected by the howl?' wondered the beast inside of her animal brain.
If she was to turn around or move to try and get the parrot off, the bloodlust would also shift its direction, leaving her open to attacks from the group.
She couldn't do that, these chumps were after her master's identity! But, if she was to be killed, her master would have to replace her, which would her master prefer?
Finishing these thoughts, the bloodlust stopped coming out in an instant and the beast shook off the parrot as if she was filth before rushing away.
Zig zagging through the trees and vegetation expertly, the dark beast ran off into the distance while dodging anything thrown at her in an attempt to stop her evasion.
"That looks like a failure on our part..." quietly remarked Jake as he saw the silhouette of the beast disappear into the distance.
"Aiden, what did you get with this one?" asked Grayson as he walked up to his still kneeling friend, the bloodlust attack had been fairly intensed and everyone still felt it coursing through their bodies.
"Humm, it wasn't just a serie of letters, at least it didn't look like it but it's weird" he responded as he pushed himself to his feet.
"It said that it's name was Gevaudan, I don't know about you but I doubt it's just a coincidence" he added in a low voice.
"What is the problem with Gevaudan as a name?" Jake didn't understand what Aiden was talking about.
"Jake, please, you must have heard of the beast of Gevaudan in your life right? The problem is that it's a name from our old world, the fact that it appears here, in a related setting nonetheless, means that the one who named that beast is either from or knows about our world" explained Grayson as he rolled his eyes.
Meanwhile, the group of girls was talking about something else.
Molarine raised one of her feet, revealing that she managed to get some strands of fur of the beast with her toes no less.
"By the lords, have you ever washed those feet? Have they always been that dirty and I never noticed because I never look down?" spoke Molbas as she slowly stepped back.
"I am more impressed by the sheer size of these things! It's understandable that she doesn't wear any shoes, the species with such sizes aren't common around here, there are simply no shoes her size here!" remarked Layo with a slight smug.
Ignoring the peanut gallery, Laura carefully removed the strands of hair from the constriction of Molarine's toes to prepare the divination they had come here for in the first place.
Laura had previously found out that the so called beast of these surroundings was somehow linked to the vampire they were after, she had first thought that it would a vampire itself and that going for it during the day would be best but she had been wrong, not that it had been very likely to begin with, the beast attacked during the day multiple times before but it never hurt to be careful.
She split the strands in her possession into two parts for two separate divinations, one aimed toward the master of that beast and the other one simply aimed at Dea herself, just in case she wasn't the actual master of this beast.
She clenched some of the strands in her fist, focusing on trying to make a picture as per usual, hoping to get some hints of the vampire's location thanks to it.
Instead of getting any picture, she felt like something had changed, looking around, she noticed that she was alone and in the dark, in fact, she, herself, didn't seem to be here as her own body was nowhere to be seen.
A dark figure aproached in the distance and in an instant, it was upon her, its arms outstretched and ready to grasp her.
It eyes let out a powerful light of an unknown color, Laura managed to get out of the vision before she was grabbed and fell on her the ground, panting heavily while her group looked at her with confusion.
"It wasn't very conclusive" she then went on doing the second divination and this time it went as usual, a picture was made of Dea, a clearer one than before which allowed them to see some of the background.
"Why is she naked in every single picture?" wondered Molbas out loud, clearly focuses on something other than the background even though Dea herself wasn't very detailed and visible on the picture.
"Ah! Look at that!" exclaimed Layo as she pointed at seemingly nothing.
"Don't you see the small spider here? It has a white plus cross on its back and is dark grey, clearly, this isn't your everyday spider, it must be a local thing wherever Dea is!" she explained.
As the girls went on their way to try and find where that spider was from, they passed by the three otherworlders.
"I wouldn't try to investigate the beast's master" advised Laura without elaborating any further.
