Chapter 35 - The Other Stalker

In a medium sized city In Heilig, compared to Gloire, the place didn't seem to have any dominant species in terms of numbers.

This was most likely due to how the country was tied up together, the ruler wasn't seen very often at all but one thing that was known about him was that he radiated holy energy, everything centered around the gods here, not around worshipping them per se but around the fact that this land was blessed by each and every one of them.

The ruler was said to be granted his position by the gods themselves, explaining why he possessed so much holy energy, in general, everyone here had more holy affinity that elsewhere.

Everyone here shared this, making it all the more horrible for this certain sin.

She sat down on a bench away from anyone as she tried to calm down, her white hair covered her vibrant pink eyes, her dark dress was as beautiful as always, worthy of being worn by royalty.

Her hands and pointy ears were deathly pale, in stark comparison to her eyes full of life as she rubbed her face to try and get past the fact that everyone here had a good afinity at birth.

Why couldn't she have that? This was the question she kept asking herself everyday, at every hour, every minute, every second.

Why were others in possession of things she didn't have?

It simply didn't feel right, she needed to have what everyone else had.

As her envy grew stronger, it was like she started shining, shining because holy energy seemed to be interested in her now.

Her constant envious thought made her heart hurt but the satisfaction on now having the same thing as what they had filled her with utter joy, which also pained her heart from how potent that feeling was.

Not everything was as simple as that however, when it came to system related things, getting a grasp of them was easy but not everything was about or linked with the system.

When Envy stared at people living peaceful lives, people with family, people who lived on their own, people with siblings, people who lived from what they grew from the soil, people who lived by the sword.

Some of those conflicted with one another but Envy's heart still craved for it all to also be hers, all at once.

She covered her eyes, preventing herself from seeing anything else she could wish for, eventually, if she stayed like that for a bit, it would all go away.

Entering this place was bad idea, horrible but she simply couldn't always control her envious thoughts.

"You seem a bit panicked" spoke a voice beside her.

She raised her head to look at who was sitting next to her all of a sudden.

"You are... Ithelisemou, right?" she said, her voice sounded like a whisper as she barely moved her lips as she spoke, her eyes seemed indifferent to what was in front of them.

"Indeed, en chair et en os, I noticed that you weren't looking so great, what is the matter?" he asked her, his smile as sleazy as it was seemed strangely comforting.

"There are too many things to be envious around here, I need to get out" she whispered.

"Oh I see, having trouble with your sin?" he said as he put his hand on her shoulder, in the blink of an eye and they were outside of the city.

Envy sighed in relief, feeling like her heart wasn't being constricted anymore.

"How did you find me?" she asked with curiosity.

"I just went to the capital to meet a good friend of mine and noticed you while passing by, nothing out of the ordinary, a coincidence for sure" he responded.

"Anyways, I can't help but notice that your heart rate is very inconsistent, it can go from pretty much diseased to beating so fast and hard that it seems on the verge of popping, could it be linked with your sin?" he asked.

"I think so, whenever I am envious or manage to get what I want, my heart aches" she responded softly.

She would be difficult to hear for most people but she didn't interact with many people at all.

"Interesting, let's talk some more" he said as he started walking in a random direction, putting his hand behind her shoulder to lead her alongside him.

Having conversations was something she had practically never done, this made her heart ache with joy, finally managing to have some interactions with someone, she would never dare try to start one herself and people seemed to assume that she didn't want to talk.

So having someone actually willing to speak with her was unusual.

The duo of a ragged man and a cute elven woman walking through random paths in the woods was certainly not an everyday sight.

Envy's eyes were seemingly always obstructed by her hair, it must have been a deliberate choice as her hair was impeccable, she looked like nobility with the way she stood and walked, even her mannerisms, it was something she had started doing after watching some nobles interact with one another.

It seemed to be the only mannerisms she could properly emulate, finding herself unable to copy the movements of other people.

"Listen Envy, I am a firm believer in the Theory Of Contradiction, mostly because I am the one who invented it but don't say that to anyone, I published it under a false name" he told her.

She found herself laughing a bit at his strange way of acting sometime, turns out that he was much more agreeable than it had seemed last time.

"What I mean is that, your envy shouldn't be limited in such a way as you describe it, I think you could copy much more things that you believe yourself to be capable of but that is only yours to figure out, let me propose you something else" he said.

He whispered her some words, her expression remained nearly unchanged but his suggestion made her think fervently.

"I..." she was about to say something but Theli cut her off, giving her a thumbs up.

"No need to thank me, let us be friends from now on" he said and Envy fell over, literally, the joy of having an actual friend pumped so much blood to her heart that she had none left to support her legs for a moment.

Theli caught her with some invisible force.

"Oh my, I had never caused a woman to pass out just by being her friend..." he spoke out loud, slightly surprised at such a strong reaction.
