It was the same day as any other for our protagonist Annie May for he was some regular guy who had a job, an apartment and well...
Uhh, that's it really apart from his clearly bad name which he has been planning to get legally changed.
In his room he lay, on a mattress with stains, staring blankly at his unappealing walls and ceiling with boredom. He had dreams to achieve like, being rich or famous but he just couldn't, no matter how much he yearned, but then he had a thought. Wanting it wasn't good enough. He HAD to do something!
Rising like a phoenix from the ashes off his mattress and out of the room with commitment on his mind, Annie May was going to get rid of his ridiculous name once and for all (and finally get somewhere in life)
Now he flung himself down the corridor, down the stairs and onto the road only to be greeted by his friend Damien.
"Yo man, where you been? I was waitin' to the point of just leaving." He said with a slightly annoyed tone.
"Well lets get going since the faster you do this the faster we can do something more productive..."
"Yeah good idea, I've actually been planning to save up for this really cool cake that I want to make and i--"
And suddenly OUT OF NOWHERE a truck just comes barreling down the road and absolutely obliterates Annie. Like the remains were just a messy paste splattered across the road and everywhere.
Now what happened next was something so extraordinary and cliché this novel wouldn't be here without it. Annie May was in some wooden room.
Now this room had very little furniture or anything in it, just a bland and empty space. To be honest the only thing there was a table and an ...
Old man?!
He sat calmly on the opposite side of a now existent table with a posture that had a relaxing aura to it, calming Annie down. Causing a quick approach over to the table leading to an immediate question.
"Um, why am I here?"
Suddenly this old guy was holding in his hand a cup of a mysterious black liquid that he sipped from in a soothing manner, when finished the cup was placed onto a coaster that seemingly appeared at an unknown time.
"Well, you're here for one reason..." He spoke tranquilly in such a quiet voice it was nearly a whisper and yet it was as audible as an average conversation.
"You. Are dead."
All 7 stages of grief passed, overcame and overwhelmed him as he pondered about everything he will now miss out on in life such as a good name.
"Now what?" Was the only question Annie had that he could ask after this truth
"For starters, i'll give you a choice" answered the old man
"Like what? Go to the afterlife or something?" The answer being a choice would only leave Annie in a state of confusion as it was too vague.
"Reincarnate or purgatory, plain and simple," He stated in a contrasting blunt tone
"In what way? Are there any more options" He uttered, bewildered by this fact
"Be sent to a trial of fate or reincarnate and start anew. No other options are available to you at the moment."
A predicament lay before Annie, potentially getting eternal unrest, stuck to wander longer than one can think.
Or the second option, losing everything he gained and had (nothing) and exchanging it to be delivered to some mystery world which for all he knew could lead to anywhere.
Now this line of thinking got Annie May to believe that getting turned into a paste by a truck was a calling, lucky even. But he got just one thing wrong.
That he wasn't lucky to be killed by a truck.
"I guess you want to reincarnate then. Just so you know you won't be born as some spectacular super baby right from the get go, in fact you will be as normal as everyone else." He somehow answered
"Wait. What? Do I at least get to know where I am going?!" Sputtered the confused Annie, slightly saddened by this fact of normalcy
"No, lol" Nonchalantly answering
"Oh. Ok, will there at least be something cool like magic?"
As Annie finished his sentence he realised that the old man was no longer just sipping his drink but chugging it. After he finished after 12 whole seconds of straight guzzling he stopped and said this.
"You'll see, I added something so things might be more interesting for you."
And with a wink, Annie soon felt his consciousness fading even with so many questions in his mind like who was he? Did he read his mind? Where was he going or even that he never truly chose an answer.
And then it went black
