Chapter 7 - An escape

I folded my arms, and glared at the prince, "I wasn't selected for the journey to the mountains, so I don't see the need to bow and ask for mercy. It's not as if you will let them go, even if they beg you from now to thy kingdom come."

The prince smirked, "you are fearless."

"Do I have a reason not to?" I frowned at him, not mindful of the curious glances from those around me.

"Hmm." The prince frowned, "so, why were you brought here if you weren't chosen?"

"I had an underground tavern."

And no, thanks to Yuli, I don't have it any more.

If he wasn't greedy as hell, we wouldn't have been in this type of predicament. But no, he had to be so rapacious.

"Oh." He placed a hand under his jaw. "let me guess, you are about to be shipped to the mountain of the witches?"

"Yes," I answered without missing a bit.

"Oh." He chuckled, "you seem so fearlessly, it's men like you I want."

"And it's princes like you that detest me," I spat on the ground.

The prince laughed as if I said something funny. "I love your spirit."

He turned his back to me, and turned to his men, "bring him along with me and take the others to the palace prison. They will be there until we are set to leave."

"Who did you tell them to bring along!" I shouted as the men tried to take me, and despite my trashing, they still bundled me up.

They threw me inside the carriage with the prince while the others screamed outside, begging the prince for his mercy.

"Let's go." The prince commanded those outside.

"Why did you take me?" I narrow my eyes at him.

"You interest me," he shrugged.

"Let me go, you psychopaths!" I tried to sit up, but couldn't do so with my legs bundled up.

"Let me help you." He said before he untied the ropes around my legs, and I allowed him to do so.

With my legs tied up, the chances of escape are slim, but without the bound, I can escape when the opportunity presents itself.

"Now, you can sit properly." The prince sat back in his chair, without untying my hands.

He probably knows what my plans are.

"Let me go."

"No."

"Why?"

"You interest me." He leaned on his chair and closed his eyes as the carriage went forward. "All my life as the prince of the city, this was the first time someone has stood up to me.

No one dared challenge me, not with their eyes, and certainly not with their mouth.

However, you peasant stood up to me with both your words and eyes."

"I'm not a peasant! I'm a senior research executive in my ā€” Kingdom!"

"Senior research officer? What's that?" He tilted his head to the side, "Which kingdom did you come from?"

"I came from a far kingdom."

"Hmm." The prince placed a hand on his jaw. "What's a senior research executive?"

"Let it drop. Even if I tell you what it is, you won't know."

Their Illiterate peanut brain won't be able to catch up with the happenings.

"Who said so? I will know what it is." The prince smirked. "tell me what it is."

And so, I started a thorough explanation of what my work back on Earth was like. However, despite the story, my eyes were on the window as I silently bade my time for the right opportunity to escape.

The rope my hands were tied with wasn't that strong.

So, with time, I was able to lose it all, without the knowledge of the prince who was too engrossed in the story I was telling, to pay me any heed.

"Wow. That's good work you have there. Although there are strange terms involved. Iā€”"

I pushed the prince and dived out of the window before he can react to my actions.

I balled my body to save it from the fall, and when my legs touched the ground, I took off.

"Get him!"

The men, who were initially stunned when they saw me drop out from the window, started chasing me.

And for the second time since I came to this kingdom, I was involved in a surviving race.

Through the streets, I raced through.

Only a few people were on the streets, and those were the old people. No youngster was out for fear of being captured by the prince and his men.

"Catch him!" Those men shouted. But no one on the streets paid them head as I ran for dear life.

I weaved through stalls and streets until I came to the end of the city.

From here, it was only Forest. And according to Yuli, the path here will take you to the next village, although it might take five days max of walking, to reach there.

Without a second thought, I dashed into the forest.

I didn't glance back to check on those who were chasing me. I kept my entire focus on the place I was dashing towards.

If it's the last thing I do, I need to escape from their place. I can't wait until I'm captured by them.

I kept on running until I was certain I have lost them.

And only then did I stop running to look around.

Gods.

I was lost.

There was no way for me to know the right way forward.

I was completely lost!

Yet, being lost is better than being caught by those who were chasing me. I can't let them catch me, not when I'm this near to another kingdom.

I will stay there until I figure out the right way to go.

It means I will start from scratch and all that, but I'm not deterred.

Starting from scratch is better than being caught by the prince and his men.

I walked to one tree, and leaned on it to sleep.
