Chapter 7 - The Case Comes Together

The next day, Jack arrived at the precinct early in the morning, eager to continue the investigation. He had a lot to go through after the events of the previous night. Jack's team had been able to identify the man the husband had met with, and they were waiting for more information

Meanwhile, Alex had taken it upon himself to sneak into the victim's house to search for any evidence that might help them in the case. Jack couldn't get into the house without the husband knowing legally although this wasn't a route he would take, Alex's expertise allowed him to get in without being detected.

As Jack waited for updates, he couldn't help but worry about Alex's safety. He knew the risks of breaking and entering, and he didn't want his partner to get hurt.

Finally, Jack received a call from his contact. "We've got some information on the man the husband met with," the contact said. "His name is Tom Williams, and he's a businessman who had a shady deal with the victim."

"What kind of deal?" he asked.

"It looks like the victim embezzled money from Williams' company," the contact replied. "He's been trying to get it back for months."

Jack knew they needed to get more information on this. He immediately called Alex, and the two of them met at the precinct to go through the evidence they had collected so far.

Alex had found a hidden safe in the victim's office containing documents. They read through and found clues that the woman was involved in some shady business deals.

Alex started to go through the office, looking for any clues that might tie Williams to the murder. They found documents that confirmed Williams' involvement in the shady business deals with the victim. It was clear that the murder was motivated by revenge.

Jack and Alex wasted no time in bringing Tom Williams in for questioning. They found him at his office and took him into custody, placing him under 24-hour observation while they inspected his phone and other electronic devices.

As they went through his phone, they discovered some deleted messages that they hoped could shed some light on the case. They would have to wait for the messages to be recovered, but in the meantime, they continued to question Williams.

At first, Williams denied any involvement in the murder, but as the evidence piled up against him, he started to crack.

As they continued to question Williams, they discovered that he and the husband had been romantically involved for some time before the wife's death. It was an expected revelation, and it made Jack and Alex even more suspicious the husband could be involved in the murder as well.

They decided to bring the husband in for questioning, and as they questioned him, they found more evidence that he was involved in the murder. He had been desperate to get his hands on his wife's money and had conspired with Williams to kill her.

As they waited for the deleted messages to be recovered, Jack and Alex pieced together the events leading up to the murder.

The Wife had business dealings with Mr Williams, while Mr Williams had some contact with the Husband. The Husband worked away from home a lot and the Wife was suspicious of her husbands movement, she discovered his cheating. Mr Williams was one of many lovers, but as someone she knew she started to embezzle Mr Williams company as part of her revenge. By time Mr Williams found out it was too late. The Husband found out and coerced Mr Williams to get rid of her, he would take out a life insurance policy this would help Mr Williams get him back on his feet.

Once the deleted messages were recovered, and they confirmed what Jack and Alex had already suspected. The husband had convinced Williams to go through with the murder, promising him a cut of the insurance payout. They had carefully planned every detail, but they didn't count on the police being able to piece everything together.

Jack and Alex arrested both the husband and Williams, charging them with intertional murder and conspiracy.

It was a satisfying conclusion to a complex case. Jack and Alex had worked tirelessly to piece together the evidence, and their hard work had paid off. It was down to the court to now make the decision.

Jack sat back in his chair at home, reflecting on the case, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in the work he and Alex had done. It was a reminder of why he became a detective in the first place.

As he looked at Alex, who was busy typing up the report at the table, Jack couldn't help but think how lucky he was to have such a skilled and dedicated partner. He knew that he couldn't have solved this case alone, and he was grateful for the teamwork that had made it possible.

Jack walked over and knocked on the table, startling Alex from his task.

"Hey," he said, smiling at his partner. "How's it going?"

"I'm almost done." Alex replied. "Anything?"

''Stay over tonight.'' Jack replied he gave Alex a kiss on the cheek, and then leaned back in his chair again.

Alex smiled back. "Do you need to ask."

"No, I mean, stay over for good."

Alex laughed neither accepting nor denying.
