Chapter 62 - SAMANTHA LILY ADAMS

'What?'

"Samantha, my dear."

I blink away not being able to reply or find what to do at the moment.

"Mrs Howards, sir," I say feeling surprised with what am seeing, their sudden visit. What is going on? Were we expecting them and Kai did not say anything to me.

"Samantha are you not going to invite us in and keep us at the door." I smile awkwardly.

"No, come on in," I say stepping aside and watching the Howards walk right into our house. Amy Daniels offers a smile my way as she makes her way in then follows her three girls, am familiar with Tiffany because she is my home tutor.

"Good evening Samantha." She says smiling at me and reaching out to hug me. "Hey," I say once we pull away. She walks right in after two other girls who look exactly like her.

The three sisters can be taken as triplets if you do not know them or see them for the first time. You can not tell the older or the youngest but I know Tiffany is the oldest because she told me. Am going to admit that having her as my tutor did not settle right with me at first but after some hard and tiring studying sessions we've been doing together. I have grown to enjoy her around.

I think the way I expected a daughter of Amy Daniels to turn out to be, it's not how she is like. It turns out she is the female version of Kai.

I follow behind them and we walk into the living room. "Samantha dear, where is my son?" I look at Amy smiling at me and before I answer her we hear footsteps and we all turn to look at Kai as he walks in the living room. He runs his eyes through his family members and then rests his gaze on his mother but with a composed demeanor. I find it hard to know if he surprised me like I was.

"What are you doing here?"

"Dear, is that a way to welcome your family?" Amy asks Kai back with a gleaming smile on her face.

She turns and gestures to her family with her hands before saying. "This, this took a lot of convincing, a lot of hard work to make it happen, son, a little appreciative attitude would appreciated back." Kai just snorts in response turning his gaze away.

"Samantha hon, I do not think you have met my stepdaughters yet." I look at Amy as she turns to me and shakes my head because I haven't.

"I knew it, the one on your right is my eldest stepdaughter, she is a talented wise, and genius baby girl, Tiffany, she is a professor." I turn to Tiffany and smile at her. She smiles back and when no one says anything, I also realize Howards might not know she is my tutor but anyway is it necessary for them to know? Definitely no. It won't hurt them or kill them if they don't know about that little information.

"There on your left, the one in a cap is Joanna she is an entertainer just like her mother except her voice is more extraordinary than mine, then the last one is Mara, taking the world by her blessed features passed over by her father." She turns and winks at her husband smiling at him cheerfully before turning back to her girls, "girls this Samantha, my son's lover and this is your brother's house. So feel most welcomed." She says and I have to say, I do not know how I feel about that.

Is it normal for mothers to do this in their son's house? I turn to glance at Kai and find him clenching his jaw, he does not like it either.

"So," Amy says again bringing my attention back to her.

"Since I came to get you guys to join us on our weekend gathering and refused. I decided we are then going to have Sunday dinners mostly in this house," I feel shocked.

'What? Did I catch that correctly? Someone, please tell me this is not happening?'

Don't get me surprised and get me wrong, I also do not know if it's about what my family did to me or what my guts tell me about the Howards, I just don't want to interact with them on an unnecessary basis but having Sunday dinners with them, it's a lot am not willing to take.

"Samantha because I know this came suddenly, we came with food but as the lady of the house remember to take good care of us next Sunday." She says while sending a wink my way but I just nod my head.

"Mother enough, can we get this over with?" Kai says and her mother nods.

"Master of the house ordered. Charles pass me the bags." It's when I even realized they came with their food. She takes the bags and walks to the kitchen.

"Sam, a hand?" I walk into the kitchen. "Help me set the table up." She says smiling at me and I nod getting to set the table for her.

They brought, fried chicken with chips and drinks. We set the dining table up before we called everyone to join us at the table. I just had dinner with Kai at the restaurant so apart from not wanting to eat, I also wanted to call it a night and just head to bed.

We gather all on the dining table.

"This is great," Amy says once we've started eating. Nobody replies because even a small young kid could feel the tension that is in the dining room.

The only sound is of bites and chewing and nothing else. But it does not last long because Mara breaks it.

"Trenton right?" She asks Kai who nods his head at her subtly only glancing at her once.

"You have a younger sister?" She asks again and Kai nods at her again.

"How old is she? I heard she models too."

He clears his throat. "You heard she models but haven't heard her age?"

"Mara, my daughter is nineteen." Amy comes in defense of her stepdaughter who just chuckles lightly. "It's hard to believe her age knowing of what she already did in the London modeling world."

"It's no surprise Mara, don't say it like it is because it's not darling. I give birth to talents only." Kai scoffs loud enough for everyone to hear it on the table.

Amy ignores him and so does everyone as she keeps on saying to her daughter. "It's a shame, I only raised you and never birthed you." Am surprised by those words. But Mara nods her head uncaringly like she was used to such words.

"Samantha, why are you not eating?" I feel taken by surprise when the attention comes to me. I turn to Amy and smile at her.

"Am sorry. It's just me and Kai just had an early supper and I am still full from it."

"It's okay dear. I mean we came unprepared so be it if we have to eat it all alone." I take it as a joke that's why I reply to her with a soft chuckle.

"But you know you have not shared with me, nor us technically the way you guys met." I smile when she says that feeling glad that she is interested but suddenly Kai interjects. "It's not necessary Mom."

"You are the daughter of the former diplomat who got offered the ambassador post?" I look at Joanna feeling quite surprised that she knows me.

It's rare for people to recognize members of my family mostly when we are not with Dad but am taken by how much Joanna knows.

I nod my head at her. "I am."

"How did you know all of that Joanna? I do not think I said a thing." She shrugs her shoulders at her mother who drops it but not after giving her a suspicious look.

The look is not in her own eyes because the whole time they are there I have a suspicious feeling for all of the Howards.

We sit through the rest of the dinner, without hearing a word from Mr Howards himself and Tiffany.

Through the rest of it I can tell Kai is bothered by our visitors but we manage to make it through we finish eating and they walk on their way.

"Next time please try to be so welcoming," Amy says to both of me and Kai after she's hugged us goodbye, the rest of her family is waiting in the car.

I nod my head. "We will be ready for you guys," I reply and I can tell it amuses her because she offers me a pleased smile raising her hand to pat my cheek lightly.

"Am glad to hear that. Take care lovers." I nod my head one last time to her. She reaches to Kai and kisses his cheek. Before she pulls away and smiles at me.

She walks to the car where the rest of her family is waiting she gets in and they drive away with the other cars of their bodyguards following behind.

Kai sneaks his arm on my waist drawing me closer to his firmly hard chest. "That was so uncalled for," I say to him. I feel him kissing the top of my head and breathing in my scent before answering. "I know."

We stood there for some time before we suddenly got cold and walked back into the house, suddenly with no mood nor strength to do anything. I just go to bed.

The days go by in a blur, I realize when life is good sometimes you lose count of how days go by, and Sunday events are long forgotten. it's Friday when I get a call from my brother I feel the disbelief at how much time has gone by.

"Yarrow," I say through the phone as I pick it up.

"Sam, mom gave birth."

"What?" I say as loudly enough causing Angel and Tiffany to stare at me questioningly.

We were having lunch during my break.

"Yarrow stop playing, she was supposed to give birth at the end of this April probably early in May."

"It's a boy, Sam. Simeon Sumac Adams." Oh my God, he is not lying.

"It's a boy," I say feeling like crying but they still start falling on my cheeks. I got it right all this time. I knew mom was going to give birth to a boy. It's always a feeling I had.

"Yes, both he and mom are fine though it was very difficult for mom to deliver."

"Samantha, are you okay?" I look at Tiffany and nod my head but I am crying. I suddenly feel sad, I feel so bad for not being there for my mother. I feel like a failed daughter.

I get on my feet and stop eating before I walk upstairs running and locking myself within mine and Kai's room.

"Am glad yarrow, thank you for calling me," I say and hang up and toss the phone while I sit there on my bed and cry.
