Ava sighed and closed the laptop. She called her assistant while massaging her brow. "Do you want anything, ma'am?" Kayla, her assistant, asked as she entered her cabin.
"Bring me a cup of coffee," she said as she continued to massage her brow. Kayla nodded and exited the cabin. Ava closed her eyes and leaned back in her chair. Kayla reappeared after a few moments. She looked at Ava as she placed the cup on the table. "Ma'am, your coffee has arrived. Do you have a headache? "Do you require pain medication?" she inquired.
"No need for that," Ava said, returning her gaze to Kayla. "I'm going home; you may leave as well," she said. Parinnet left with another curt nod.
Ava looked out the window as she sipped her hot coffee. Because of the clouds, the sky was dark. It could start raining at any time. She grabbed her files and dashed out of the office.
Ava was walking down the street as the sky darkened. A water droplet landed on her head. When she looked up, it began to rain in the blink of an eye. "Damn!" she muttered under her breath as she took off running. She was drenched and cold by the time she got home.
"Mom?" she asked as she entered the living room. But she received no response. She took a look around the table and noticed a note left for her. She took the note and read, "Hey darling. I'm going to a party with your father, and we'll be late. We couldn't reach you because your phone was turned off. Dinner has been prepared and placed in the refrigerator. Eat your dinner and then go to bed.
P.S. There will be no Netflix shows tonight."
Ava returned the note to the table and went to her bedroom. She showered and changed into some comfortable clothes. She looked at her phone and saw that the battery had died. So she charged her phone.
"Duh. "I have nothing to do right now." Ava murmured as she paced back and forth across the room. She sat down on the couch and turned on the television. Everything went dark all of a sudden. The lights went out, and so did the television. "Oh no!" "Power outage?" exclaimed Ava. She got up from the couch and attempted to make her way to the kitchen. But it was dark, and it was difficult for her to walk. She wandered into the kitchen and began looking for a candle.
"There isn't even a candle," she said as she shut the cupboard and kicked the ground. Outside, it was thundering, which startled her. She screamed and ran to the living room, covering her ears.
"Ouch," she grumbled as her ankle twisted. Before she hit the ground, a strong arm caught her by the waist and prevented her from falling. "Are you all right?" Aaron asked, holding Ava in his arms. She was startled again when she heard his voice. She attempted to stand straight away, but her angle was harmed and she stumbled.
"Hey, slowly." Aaron cooed. He assisted her in standing and seated her on the couch. He took out his phone and looked at Ava, who was already staring at him.
"Are you here?" she asked quietly. Aaron sighed and took a look around.
"There is a power outage in our area. I understand that you are alone and that you are afraid of the dark. So I came to see you," he explained. He sighed again as Ava arched her brow at him.
"Fine," he said, looking at her. "I need to speak with you. But let us wait until the power is restored."
"Okay..." Ava averted her gaze. Aaron sat across from Ava, and they both sat quietly. They went an hour without saying anything.
"Achooo!" Aaron was startled when Ava sneezed. He looked at her with concern. "Are you all right?"
"Y..yeah. "I'm fine," Ava said. But she sneezed once more. Aaron laughed and walked into the kitchen. He returned a few minutes later with a cup of coffee.
"Have this," he instructed. Ava fixed her gaze on him. Aaron gave her a soft smile and she took the cup from him. She sipped her coffee and felt revitalized. But her head hurt from the headache. In between sips of coffee, she massaged her head.
"I think you should rest," Aaron suggested.
"There's no need. "I'm fine," Ava stated firmly.
"I am telling you, not asking you."
Ava rolled her eyes at Aaron and averted her gaze. He stood up with a sigh.
"What are you doing?" Aaron pulled Ava up from the couch and held her in his arms as if she were a bride. "Please take me down," she screamed.
"Do not say anything." Aaron gave her a wink. He entered the bedroom while gently holding Ava. His gaze never left her dark orbs. He approached the bed but tripped over its foot, and both of them fell asleep.
As she lay on the bed, under Aaron, Ava became excited. He was holding her waist with one hand and her side with the other. "Ava," Aaron said quietly in her ear.
"Huh?" Her heart was racing because she was so excited. Aaron would have seen her blush if it hadn't been for the darkness. Aaron attempted to stand but fell again. The light appeared quickly. Aaron sighed as he looked at Ava.
"I apologize. I didn't want to hurt you like that. But I was so fucking jealous when I saw you with Nathan, because...because...because I...I love you," he explained. Ava's eyes widened and she stared at him. Aaron's eyes were filled with pain and guilt as he smiled at her. "I apologize. "I was a jerk to hurt you."
"But how about Rachel?" Ava inquired slowly. Aaron pressed his lips together. "She is only a friend. "I never had feelings for her," he admitted.
"I'm in love with you, Ava." He rubbed her cheek with his knuckles. She flushed hotly and shivered at the thought of his touch. "I adore you, Aaron." Ava said, pressing her lips against Aaron's. He returned her kiss. But then it dawned on him, and he drew back.
"What happened?" she inquired. Aaron stood up slowly and turned away. Ava stood up as well.
"Nathan and you..." Aaron muttered something. "I've broken up with him," Ava bit her lower lip.
"What?" Aaron was taken aback by her admission.
"I realized he was just a friend to me, and I never felt anything special for him."
Aaron smiled and wrapped his arms around Ava. "Does that mean we can...?" he asked, his puppy eyes on Ava. Ava smiled as she pecked his lips.
Aaron knelt on his knees and extended his hands. "I adore you so, Ava. "Will you be my girlfriend?" he inquired.
"Yes. I will." Ava smiled as she held his hand.
Aaron drew her into a warm embrace. They kissed passionately as he pressed his lips against hers. They had to break the kiss to take a breath. "I love you," they said as they looked at each other.
The End
