Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Don’s “Diamond”

"Don, you son of a… I got your diamond! Let me in, I'm not saying your stupid password."

After getting away from those three, Darius made it out the castle without anyone one else seeing him. The Grande Verde didn't weigh all that much, so after getting rid of all that heavy armor from earlier, he was able to quickly get back to Valhalla. Where he angrily forced his way in.

Ron and Jeremy were steadfast at the door, ready to reject his entry unless he said the password until the Don's voice rang out from down the hallway. "You did it? Fabulous, please come in!"

Darius was trying his best to hold his emotions in for the sake of his ship, but he was slowly losing it. When faced with the Don, he slammed it onto his desk, once again forsaking any of the basic formalities one used when approaching the Don.

"Here it is the 'dia…' No, it's not a diamond it's a damn emerald. How'd you get the two confused? One is green!" Darius broke, he couldn't hold it in anymore.

"What does it matter, they're both rocks? Yes, my business partner will be quite pleased," the Don responded while inspecting the Grande Verde.

Why does it matter, they're both rocks?" My boy, you did it! The Grande Verde! Don Klaus said, breathe reeking of expensive alcohol.

Darius's levels of fury rose so far that he went back into a state of complete calm, "So, Don Klaus, about the payment we agreed upon." The Don barely registered that Darius even said something, fully immersed in the presence of the Grande Verde.

"Hm? Yes, your ship is ready to depart in dock 13. Your crew will meet you there. Oh, and Darius, please don't forget to say goodbye to Kori on your way out, I'm sure he'll miss you. Last I heard he wanted to give you his thanks."

"Thank you, Don Klaus, always a pleasure to work with you." It took everything in Darius not to vomit as he said these words. It always sickened Darius to have to be so polite to the Don, but it was fine. After today, he'd finally be free of him.

"You know Darius, I've taken quite a liking to you. You are quite the valuable asset, and I would hate to lose you. Is there anything I could say to stop you from going on this suicide mission?" Don Klaus spoke before Darius could fully leave, and strangely enough it was to express concern.

"Is this sadist worried about me? What's his game?" Darius thought. "My most gracious thanks, Don Klaus, for your concern, but it is unfounded. If this is the last time we work together, then just know that I've always considered you a good friend."

The Don gave a merry chuckle, "Likewise, but I do not think this will be the last time we work together, at least not for some time." Don Klaus waved Darius away, this conversation was over.

"Good, this ship better not be some crapper, or I'm stealing something else. That necklace on one of his women looks nice."

Darius made his way to leave Valhalla, but sure enough Kori stopped him at the door, "Darius, a minute?"

"A second." Darius responded, taking a close look at Kori's bandaged hand.

Following his gaze, Kori brought further attention to it, "Thanks to you he went easy on me. Look at that, it won't even get infected."

"Your second is up."

Darius moved to leave but was stopped by Kori with his one good hand. "Listen, I pay may debts, and I owe you a big one. Though I can't say I'll enjoy being indebted to a piece of trash freelancer. Least I can do right now is ask that you temper your expectations about the Don's payout. Just don't get too mad, I promise things will get better."

Darius took one more look at the building, which proudly displayed the crest of Don Klaus, a purple shark, "Kori… You don't just owe me one, you owe me three."
