Chapter 140 - The Jade Blade (Arc 3)

The Jade Blade explained that, so far, there was nothing 'wrong' with Feng Yongrui. Now, the Jade Blade had been observing Feng Yongrui for quite some time.

He watched as Feng Yongrui took care of the stallions, he watched as Feng Yongrui wrote letters to his Boss, he watched as Feng Yongrui ate and chatted with Big Brother... he even watched as Feng Yongrui chatted with Stan AND when Feng Yongrui was doing the System's (weird) Daily Missions.

All in all, the Jade Blade felt like he wasn't a top level spy or assassin anymore. Instead, he felt like a mixture of a stalker-babysitter kind of guy.

The Jade Blade was used to seeing spies -- he was used to seeing their eyes filled with malice and deceit. But when he saw Feng Yongrui's eyes, he couldn't sense that same kind of shrewdness that spies were supposed to have.

The Jade Blade was used to seeing people pretend to be stupid in front of others while hiding their schemes in the dark. But Feng Yongrui... ah, this Feng Yongrui was, inside and out, thoroughly stupid.

At first the Jade Blade thought that Feng Yongrui's 'stupidity' was all just an act. He had seen how others called Feng Yongrui a 'fool', and the Jade Blade thought that Feng Yongrui was just acting.

After all, could a fool really be able to become a spy for his Master and attain valuable information?? No!

...But after some time, the Jade Blade found that his suspicions were wrong.

For starters, this Feng Yongrui guy wasn't really... spy-like. When he took care of the stallions, he would sometimes talk randomly and say strange things. The Jade Blade wasn't even sure if Feng Yongrui was talking to the horses or talking to himself.

The Jade Blade also observed Feng Yongrui as he chatted with Stan, Lilith's younger brother. The Jade Blade had read Feng Yongrui's letter over and over, used all the codes and messaging techniques that he knew, and yet, he couldn't find any secret messages between Feng Yongrui and Stan.

Instead, the two were more like friends who chatted about the weather, about the food they liked, and the interesting places they could visit when they had the time. Their conversations were so normal that the Jade Blade was confused.

That wasn't the only thing that baffled him, though.

Feng Yongrui was always, always, unpredictable. And this unpredictability came with stupidity.

There was one time when this Feng Yongrui tried, unsuccessfully, to lick his elbows. After trying about a thousand times, (by that time the Jade Blade was so fed up with Feng Yongrui that he wanted to stuff Feng Yongrui's elbows into the ground), Feng Yongrui realized he couldn't do it and started crying, muttering something about his 'precious points'.

There was another incident when Feng Yongrui went about the day looking at every single tree, staring at it intensely. At that time, the Jade Blade was convinced that something, absolutely anything, was going to happen to the tree.

Perhaps the person who was behind Feng Yongrui was going to make his appearance! Perhaps the tree had some magical device hidden inside! Perhaps...

...Nope. The Jade Blade found out that Feng Yongrui was just looking for a falling leaf to catch. When he finally found a leaf that was falling through the air, he quickly waited patiently underneath the tree, hands outstretched, as the leaf floated into his palms.

And when he caught the leaf, oh! How joyful he was! Feng Yongrui was screaming and dancing so wildly that the Jade Blade thought that the world was ending.

Feng Yongrui continued his shenanigans, doing something strange at least once a day. Every time he did something, it would be incomprehensible, and every time he did something, it was unpredictable.

The Jade Blade kept getting headaches when he looked at this person. He kept looking for loopholes, looking for any clue that proved this person was bad or that he was a threat to his Master...

Each time he thought he would discover something, he was proven wrong. Each time Feng Yongrui did something strange, he would pay attention to every move that Feng Yongrui did -- but he found nothing.

Until one day, Feng Yongrui declared that the ground had turned to lava and that he had to avoid the lava for one whole day to survive.

...That day, not only Feng Yongrui's friends (Big Brother and his gang) thought Feng Yongrui was crazy, the Jade Blade also thought so!

Because of that 'the ground is lava' incident, the Jade Blade had to admit defeat. Either Feng Yongrui was too good at pretending or he was really stupid. No, not only was he stupid, he was a little bit crazy as well.

This was the result of the Jade Blade's painstaking efforts to spy and monitor on Feng Yongrui. And he sent his evaluation to his master, Chen Longfei.

As Chen Longfei read the report, he couldn't help feeling more and more ridiculous. This person was really...

Chen Longfei got up from his seat and looked at Xiao Niao, who was standing attentively beside him.

"Let's visit my mother," he said.

Meanwhile, in the Cloud Realm, Chen Tengfei, the protagonist of this world, was sitting on a plain looking chair while admiring a painting. There was only one person in the painting, and it was a woman.

At one glance, you would be able to tell that she was a lovely lady. She had white, almost pale skin and the delicate strokes of the brush outlined her grace and lithe figure.

The lady had aqua colored hair and that fell behind her, and she wore a blue dress that seemed extremely smooth to the touch.

The most eye catching part about this lady was her eyes. She had brilliant blue eyes that shone like sapphires. Anyone who saw her eyes would be drawn into them, because those eyes were filled with a depth and beauty that words could not describe.

Chen Longfei traced his fingers across the paper and sighed. His heart was filled with complicated feelings as he looked at the woman.

"Mother..." he whispered softly. "Just where have you gone?"

Chen Longfei was drinking tea with his mother, taking small sips of his drink. His mother observed him gently and waited until he was ready to talk.

"Mother," Chen Longfei finally opened his mouth to speak.

"I... So, there's this person," he began. "He claims to be my spy, but I don't know who he is."

"Well, the thing is, I can just kill him anytime, but so far, he's been proving himself to be very useful... and I like that," he whispered.

"If he's useful, shouldn't you keep him alive?" the woman raised an eyebrow.

"But... I have no idea who he is and what his motives are," Chen Longfei said.

"I've investigated him. In fact, I've sent people to investigate him more than once, but they always come up with the same result. They say he's normal... In fact, they say he might even be a bit stupid," Chen Longfei said, hesitant.

The woman's eyes were narrowed as she looked at him.

"You sent people to investigate him, more than once, and he seems normal? Well, that is suspicious," the woman chuckled.

"Let me guess. You don't know what to do with him, am I right?" the woman smiled.

Chen Longfei smiled sheepishly. "I'm sorry, Mother. You've taught me for so long... But I'm still so incompetent. I can't even deal with a small matter like this."

"What do you plan to do?"

"Well, the best thing to do would be to kill him," Chen Longfei said. "If he's dead, then I don't have to worry about him posing a threat to us..."

"But?"

"But... I'm kind of excited. I want to know what more can he do. I want to know the possibilities that will come if he's around. Mom, I'm telling you, this guy seems really special. He's definitely strong, or something like that... Anyway, he's really mysterious. I can't seem to figure him out."

"Hmm..." the woman tapped her fingers on the table, deep in thought.

"Ah, have I told you that this person managed to contact Lilith's younger brother?" Chen Longfei added.

"What? You mean Stanislov?" she asked.

Chen Longfei nodded his head.

"That's right, I'm talking about Stanislov."

The woman's blue eyes flashed brilliantly and she looked at her son with a deep smile.

"Son, what's the name of this person you're worried about?" she asked.

"Feng Yongrui... His name is Feng Yongrui," Chen Longfei said.

"Hm..." the woman took a deep breath and looked at her son seriously.

"Longfei, have you ever considered a possibility?" she asked.

"...A possibility?" Chen Longfei's brows furrowed involuntarily.

"That's right. A possibility that... this 'Feng Yongrui' isn't a normal person? In fact, 'Feng Yongrui' might not even be from the Phantom Realm..." she trailed off.

Chen Longfei's eyes widened.

"Not from the Phantom Realm...?"

What is the most random or stupid thing that you've ever done?
