Chapter 136 - Working Together (Arc 3)

Feng Yongrui sighed. As far as he understood, the situation was like this. Several months ago, Lilith wanted to plant He Yi in the Shadow Demons mansion, and Lei Bei was in the way.

So, Lilith kidnapped him, intending to kill him. However, she took a liking to his blood because it was thick and filled with a strong demonic aura, so she wanted to use him to nourish herself instead.

Of course, how could Lei Bei agree with her? He resisted fiercely, angering her so much that she locked him inside her dungeon. However, Lei Bei managed to escape from her underground dungeon and, through a series of events, ended up finding Stan.

Lei Bei had strong magical prowess, so he soon found out that Stan and Lilith were a pair of siblings. Not only that, the two of them were connected in a special way: if Stan died, then Lilith would die as well. However, this did not work vice-versa.

Since killing Stan was the same as killing herself, Lilith did not want any harm to befall him. However, because of certain reasons, she didn't want him to live a good life either, and locked him up inside this place.

By locking him up, Lilith made sure that he would never be able to interact with others and also ensured her own safety. It was a very selfish and cruel thing to do, but Lilith didn't care.

When Lei Bei found out about this, naturally, he was overjoyed. He had found out the Vampire Clan's greatest secret and their Achilles' heel! He wanted to rush back and tell Xu Chao about it.

However, Lilith caught him, and, knowing that he had found out her secret, she locked him up in the same place as Stan, putting him inside an ice block and sealing half of his magical prowess.

Lei Bei, though, was no ordinary person. So what if she sealed his magical prowess? He was able to slowly, bit-by-bit, melt the ice block that kept him inside. This was the reason Feng Yongrui was able to sit on the ice block and didn't feel cold at all.

Since Feng Yongrui had released Lei Bei from his ice prison, naturally, Lei Bei wanted to kill Lilith by killing Stan... but things weren't that simple. The electric binds that chained and sealed Stan were also protecting him from harm.

If anyone tried to kill him, the electric binds made out of Lilith's magical prowess would be absorbed by him, healing him and notifying Lilith that someone was trying to kill him.

Long story short, Lei Bei wanted to kill Stan, but he couldn't.

Feng Yongrui looked at the two parties and wanted to say something, but he was confused on where to start. He wanted to ask for Lei Bei's help to free Stan, but since the situation was like this, how could Lei Bei be willing to help??

It was already good that Lei Bei didn't kill Stan...

"By the way," Lei Bei suddenly opened his mouth. "I've been so busy with that brat that I almost forgot. Who are you?" Lei Bei asked, looking around the room.

"I think I heard that blood-sucking brat call you 'Feng Yongrui', am I right?" Lei Bei asked.

"Err... right..." Feng Yongrui said.

"Why don't you show yourself, hm?" Lei Bei asked.

"Don't tell me you're afraid..." he sneered.

"Oh, I'm sure he's afraid. Maybe he's scared that we won't like his face," Stan muttered.

"Is it because he's shy?" Lei Bei asked.

"No, I think he's just insecure," Stan chuckled.

Lei Bei nodded his head along. "Agreed, insecure~"

Feng Yongrui stared speechlessly at the two of them. Weren't they just fighting just now? Why did they suddenly become united like this?

"Host, are you insecure?" the System, who had been silent all this time, spoke.

"Do you need me to comfort you?" the System added.

Feng Yongrui: "..."

"Alright, enough of that. Let's get to business," Feng Yongrui said, frowning.

Before the other two could say anything, Feng Yongrui quickly explained the situation to Lei Bei, who listened while frowning once in a while. When Feng Yongrui was done speaking, Lei Bei rolled his eyes.

"Heh, why do you think I'll help you?" Lei Bei scoffed.

"What, you don't want to help us?" Stan asked, cocking an eyebrow at Lei Bei.

"Oh my, is it because you're scared~?"

Lei Bei ignored Stan and looked at the empty space in front of him.

"Why are you telling me this?" Lei Bei asked, looking at the place where he thought 'Feng Yongrui' was.

"The way you explain it sounds like you're sure that I will help you," Lei Bei added.

"Well..." Feng Yongrui trailed off. How was he supposed to say it?

Since Lei Bei was from the Shadow Demons Clan, and Feng Yongrui was going incognito in the Shadow Demon's Mansion under his Boss' orders... Shouldn't he try to befriend Lei Bei?

These were Feng Yongrui's thoughts.

However, Feng Yongrui wasn't exactly sure in how to start this conversation... How was he supposed to pretend to be strong and mysterious and also convince Lei Bei to trust him?

In the end, Feng Yongrui cleared his throat.

"We all have to work together," Feng Yongrui said. "After all, we all need something from each other. So, this is why I believe you'll work with us," Feng Yongrui said, turning to Lei Bei.

The latter scrunched up his eyebrows.

"Do you really think I need anything from you?" Lei Bei scoffed. "Even if you're able to help me, do you think I'll accept your help?"

"Ha! Even if I'm on the brink of death, I won't be asking help from people of the Vampire Clan," Lei Bei declared.

"Pfft... What are you saying? Even if you wanted us to help you, do you really think the Vampire Clan will help a weakling like you?" Stan jeered in reply.

Feng Yongrui wanted to facepalm. It had taken him a long time to calm these two angry birds... Now, why were they squawking and bickering like children again?

"Lei Bei, you're from the Shadow Demons Clan, right?" Feng Yongrui asked.

"Yes, what's it to you?" Lei Bei rolled his eyes.

Feng Yongrui gave a gentle smile (again, forgetting that he couldn't be seen).

"You may not be in a hurry to get out of here. After all, you don't want to work together with your enemies, right?" Feng Yongrui asked.

Lei Bei nodded without hesitation.

"Then... What if I told you that the Shadow Demons are in danger?" Feng Yongrui asked, his eyes gleaming.

Lei Bei was immediately stunned and he sat upright.

"Got him," Feng Yongrui whispered under his breath.

Before Feng Yongrui could continue explaining, though, Lei Bei narrowed his eyes and spoke.

"Wait. I don't trust you. What if you're lying to me?" he asked, skepticism written all over his face.

Feng Yongrui smiled and patiently explained what he had heard that day, the fact that Lilith wanted to frame the Shadow Demons and the fact thay He Yi, Xu Chao's right hand man, was actually a spy that Lilith had planted.

The more he listened, the angrier Lei Bei became, and his fists were clenched so tightly that his nails were digging into his flesh.

"That woman is really..." Lei Bei's eyes were almost red as he glared at Stan.

"You people from the Vampire Clan are too much! How could you do something like this?! This, this is something that not only concerns the Shadow Demons Clan, but also the entire Phantom realm!" Lei Bei exclaimed.

Stan winced a little and looked away.

"It's got nothing to do with me," he shrugged.

Lei Bei rolled his eyes and turned to the empty space beside him.

"You. You knew all of this, and you didn't do anything? Do you want to put the entire Phantom Realm in danger? Are you letting the Vampire Clan do whatever they want? Do you want the Cloud Realm to suppress and destroy us, huh??" he yelled.

Lei Bei shook his head.

"No, this can't continue. I have to tell 'him'. I need to know what's happening right now... If they manage to frame the Shadow Demons, what should I do?" Lei Bei stood up and paced around the room, panicking with his head lowered in thought.

Suddenly, he stopped moving and looked up.

"You told me all of this... just because you want me to work together with you, right?" he asked.

Feng Yongrui smiled.

"That's right."

"Aren't you afraid that I won't cooperate with you? What if you're just spouting lies?" Lei Bei scoffed.

"Whether I'm lying or not, what you're risking is the Shadow Demons Clan, or, as you said, the entire Phantom Realm," Feng Yongrui said, smiling.

"If you don't do anything and the Cloud Realm thinks the Shadow Demons purposely want to make trouble, do you think they will let you off lightly? And, what if the Cloud Realm decides to use this as an excuse to wage war on the Phantom Realm?" Feng Yongrui taunted.

Lei Bei: Show yourself.

Feng Yongrui: No.

Stan: He's just insecure.

Lei Bei: ...Agreed.
