The other two letters had a different opening sentence.
For the third letter, the opening line was "To the person with whom I entrust my life, blood, and soul", and the contents of the letter was the latest gossip in the mansion, regarding one of the orange-clothes servants who had a tryst with a black-clothes servant. After that, there was the usual declaration of loyalty.
The fourth letter had an opening line of "To the person who is meant to read this heartfelt letter", and the contents of the letter was the continuation of the gossip in the mansion.
Apparently, the servants' tryst was discovered, not by Xu Chao, but by the black-clothed servant's wife. The wife was furious, and chaos ensued.
She had, allegedly, chased the husband around the mansion with a broom for four hours ('Feng Yongrui' had called it "The exercise that most married couples do when there is nothing much to do, that is, the chasing of the husband, the fury of the wife, and the energetic marathon around their employer's mansion...").
As usual, the latter half of the letter was praise for the Master, another declaration of loyalty, and a few trivial greetings and flowery phrases.
After he managed, heroically, to finish reading all the letters, Feng Yongrui blinked a few times.
"System, the original 'Feng Yongrui' is really..." Feng Yongrui massaged his head.
"I think he should be a novelist instead, or a poet," Feng Yongrui concluded.
System: "..."
After calming himself down, Feng Yongrui looked at all four of the letters again. These letters all had a similar structure, form, and purpose.
'Feng Yongrui' would always begin by talking about how hard his job was, and then he would talk about how dedicated and loyal he was, and how he looked down on the other servants.
It seemed like 'Feng Yongrui' wanted Chen Tengfei to know just how loyal and hardworking he was. 'Feng Yongrui' would also flaunt his abilities and his non-existent charisma through the letters.
When he read the letters, Feng Yongrui could see how arrogant and small-minded the original 'Feng Yongrui' was. In fact, Feng Yongrui sometimes wondered if this guy had some sort of inferiority complex or something.
He always compared himself to the other servants and seemed to think the other creatures of the Phantom Realm were too stupid and ignorant to do anything right. Feng Yongrui wanted to roll his eyes whenever he read something like that.
Was this the mentality of someone who had grown up in the Cloud Realm? Was that why he was so, so arrogant? Feng Yongrui himself didn't really care about the feud between the two realms. After all, he was only here to complete his task....
Wait, since he was now 'Feng Yongrui', this meant that...
"I have to write my daily reports just like this, right?" Feng Yongrui asked, groaning.
"That is correct, Host~~"
Feng Yongrui felt his veins throb and he silently massaged his head. Reading those letters was already torturous, but now, to think that he had to write letters like that!!
"Host, please do not forget~ Today is the fifth day of the week, and 'Feng Yongrui' has yet to write a letter~~"
Feng Yongrui groaned again. That meant... he had to start writing the letter!
Feng Yongrui opened a drawer under the table and found a stack of papers, as well as writing tools. Feng Yongrui took out one paper and directly copied the opening line that 'Feng Yongrui' had so often used.
[To the person to whom this letter is meant to be given to...]
Feng Yongrui could not bear to continue writing and dropped the pen he was holding. Instead, he leaned on the table and yawned.
"Right, System. Since Chen Tengfei sent 'Feng Yongrui' to this place, that means he reads those letters every week right?" Feng Yongrui asked.
"Correct, Host~~ What's wrong?"
"No, I was just thinking," a small smile grew on Feng Yongrui's face. "I wonder what Chen Tengfei feels and thinks every time he reads those letters... Can he bear to read them?"
"Well..." the System paused. "Since he is the protagonist, then he should be able to endure this much suffering..."
"Pfft!" Feng Yongrui couldn't help breaking into laughter. "'Endure this much suffering'? Bahaha!"
Feng Yongrui couldn't stop laughing. Other protagonists suffered because of being bullied, because they were different, because of their low status, or simply because others hated them.
But! This protagonist! Suffered! Because of his incompetent subordinate who gave him a diary instead of a report!
After his laughter died down, Feng Yongrui steadied himself and went back to business.
"Right, you said that 'Feng Yongrui' will send all 7 letters once a week. How will he send it?" Feng Yongrui asked.
"Host, are you thinking that he'll use a carrier pigeon or something like that?" the System asked.
"Huh? Yeah, I was just thinking of that. How do you know?"
Feng Yongrui heard the System sigh. "Host, this is a fantasy world, where people have magic prowess! How can you just send letters using a bird?? You're in the Phantom Realm, and inside Xu Chao's mansion! If they see a carrier pigeon that isn't theirs flying around, won't they just shoot it down??"
"And then, after killing the pigeon, they see seven letters bound to its leg... They open up the letters and start reading them one by one... each of those horrid, terrible letters will be read out loud..."
"Stop, stop, stop...." Feng Yongrui waved his hands wildly. For some reason, he felt like he was more afraid of Xu Chao reading that ridiculous letter than being exposed as a spy...
"Just tell me how I'm supposed to send these letters," Feng Yongrui grumbled.
"Well, you'll have to use a spell."
Feng Yongrui waited, but the System did not say anything else.
"And? What spell should I use? Is it a spell that requires me to use my magical prowess? If I use my magical prowess, won't people find out that I actually have pure energy and that I'm from the Cloud Realm??" Feng Yongrui asked.
"Ah... About that, there is a certain spell that can help you send the letters, and you just have to use water magic. Host, please wait a minute, I need to locate the files regarding this matter..." the System's voice faded away and Feng Yongrui waited patiently.
While waiting, Feng Yongrui tried to use a few spells. Since he was pretending to be a Yon, his demonic magic prowess was weak and he wasn't very powerful.
Feng Yongrui found that he was able to use some basic water spells without exposing his pure aura, and he surmised that this was thanks to the artifact that he had in his body.
A few minutes later, the System returned and spoke with a joyful voice.
"I found the information, Host~" it cried cheerfully.
"Alright, so how am I supposed to send those letters?" Feng Yongrui asked.
"So, there's this spell that Chen Tengfei taught you before. This spell is called 'MailMe'; it's pretty simple, and those with water-based powers are able to use it," the System explained.
"I tried to use some spells while you were gone," Feng Yongrui said. "When I used those spells, the artifact concealed my pure aura... Will the artifact also help me conceal my aura when I'm using this... 'MailMe' Spell?"
"No. As you may know, your artifact isn't that good, so its ability is limited. However, you don't need to worry, Host, because this 'MailMe' Spell is one that can be used by anyone and does not require you to use your magic prowess. Instead, you will be using your water powers."
Feng Yongrui pursed his lips. Why was this so complicated?
"In conclusion, you just have to use this spell, Host, and everything will be fine. You'll have to say the opening words -- I've sent you a file about it, and then you'll have to input the receiver's identification number."
Feng Yongrui opened the file that the System had given him and read the instructions. He had to clasp his hands while holding the letters he wanted to send...
And then, he had to say the opening line, which was "May this be sent safely to you". The last step was to say the identification number, which was... CHEN1213.
"So, this spell is like a messaging app where you just send it to someone's username, right? And Chen Tengfei's username is CHEN1213, am I right?" Feng Yongrui asked.
"Well, that is, essentially, correct, Host. B-but! How could you just put it that way?" the System complained.
Feng Yongrui rolled his eyes. "Instead of going round and round about water-based spells and identification numbers, you could've just told me about this in a simplified version," he grumbled.
"Anyway, I get it now. You're right, it is pretty simple. I guess... the hardest part will be..." Feng Yongrui let out a long-drawn sigh.
"The hardest part will be writing the letters..." he groaned.
"Hahaha~ Good luck with that, Host~~ You're on your own~" the System giggled.
Feng Yongrui rolled his eyes. He could hear the System laughing at him!
"Tsk, evil System," Feng Yongrui grumbled. He took out the pen and started to write.
Feng Yongrui did not know how much time had passed, but when he finally finished writing the letter, he felt thoroughly exhausted, both mentally and physically.
He kept the letters and returned the pen back to its original place. After using a simple, cleansing spell, Feng Yongrui flopped unto the bed and fell fast asleep...
