When Feng Yongrui opened his eyes again, he found himself in a blank white space. The System's voice rang in his head.
"Host, congratulations for successfully completing the task in the second world~~ You have been awarded 100,000 points and an additional 5,000 points for exceeding the original standard~"
"Exceeding the original standard?" Feng Yongrui raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, Host. If the Host had managed to make the protagonist's blackening value 60%, then it would've been enough. But since you managed to exceed the minimum value, you get extra points," the System explained.
Feng Yongrui nodded his head in understanding. Before moving on to the next world, Feng Yongrui checked his points as well as his profile.
The debt that he owed the System (55,000 points) was already fully paid. He had just received 105,000 points after completing the second world, so added with the points he initially had...
"Now I have 107,947 points," Feng Yongrui concluded.
"As for my skills..." Feng Yongrui took a look at his profile.
In the second world, he had 5 skills that he often used: Float Like A Ghost, Invisibility, Doppelganger, Vision of Time, and, the most important and expensive one, Shapeshifting.
The skill that let him float like a ghost was a skill that he received from the lucky draw. It was only applicable in the second world. This meant that now, he wouldn't be able to use that skill anymore.
The second skill was Invisibility (amateur level). At that time, Feng Yongrui had bought it from the Rewards Section. This meant that no matter what world he went to, he would still keep and be able to use this skill (in other words, this was a permanent skill).
The third skill was the doppelganger one. This skill was bought in the System Mall, not the rewards section, so Feng Yongrui wouldn't be able to use it anymore (unless he bought it again, of course).
There was also the "Vision of Time" skill that the System had forced him to buy, but this one was from the System Mall, so he wouldn't be able to use that skill in this world.
The last skill was the one that had almost emptied his pockets: the Shapeshifting skill (professional level). This skill was bought from the Rewards Section, so it was a permanent skill, like the Invisibility one.
"Host, do you want to buy anything from the System Mall or Rewards Section before heading to the third world?" the System asked.
Feng Yongrui pursed his lips and rested his chin on his hands.
"Rather than asking me that, why don't you tell me about the third world first? Give me the information first, and then transfer me to that world... How about that?" Feng Yongrui asked.
"This way, I know what to expect, and I can buy things I need first," he added.
"Well, that makes sense. Alright, Host. I will transfer the information to you~~"
Feng Yongrui felt a numbing sensation as information flooded into his brain. He took a deep breath and read the information.
This world was set in a fantasy-like setting, where having magic prowess meant having strength. There were three main realms in this world: the Phantom Realm, the Jade Realm, and the Cloud Realm.
The Phantom Realm was home to demonic creatures of all shapes and sizes. Demonic creatures could vary in form, shape, and powers, but they had one thing in common. They exuded demonic aura and their magic prowess was made up of demonic energy.
The Phantom Realm was ruled by the Phantom King, the strongest demon from the royal family. It was said that the Phantom King was 100,000 times more powerful than ordinary demons.
The Jade Realm belonged to mortals, those who had little to no magical prowess and whose lifespans were very short. Most of the people who lived in the Jade Realm were humans, animals, and normal plants.
Some humans would be able to cultivate and learn how to use magical prowess. However, since they were mortals to begin with, the human's capacity to use magical prowess would be severely limited.
The last realm, the Cloud Realm, was home to immortals and several magical clans such as the Phoenix Clan, the Fairy Clan, and the Water Clan. Just like the inhabitants of the Phantom Realm, the people in the Cloud Realm also varied in shape, size, and form.
However, they had similarities. Those who came from the Cloud Realm exuded a pure aura and their magic prowess was made up of pure energy.
The leader of the Cloud Realm was the Heavenly Immortal, the strongest immortal from the royal clan.
The inhabitants of both the Phantom Realm as well as the Cloud Realm could live for several hundred years.
Just like in the stories he had read, Feng Yongrui knew that the Phantom Realm and Cloud Realm were bound to clash. His assumptions were correct.
For years, the Phantom Realm and Cloud Realm were at odds with each other. They waged wars several times before, and both sides always reached an impasse.
The protagonist of this world came from the Cloud Realm. He was the only son of the Fairy Clan's leader, Chen Mei, and his father was the current Heavenly Immortal, Ye Tian.
With such a background, this protagonist's starting point was supposedly very high. However, when he was born, there was a mishap, and the protagonist was separated from his mother.
Instead of experiencing luxury and wealth befitting of the son of the Heavenly Immortal, the protagonist was raised under the care of Chen Mei's loyal servant, Wang Liling.
Wang Liling named the protagonist Chen Tengfei, following his mother's surname. She raised him with love and care, but she died when Chen Tengfei turned 42 years old.
When he was 100 years old (which was quite young, considering the immortals' lifespans), Chen Tengfei stumbled upon the secret of his birth and his identity.
By this point in time, Chen Mei had gone missing for a long time and the leader of the Fairy Clan was already her brother. Chen Tengfei was heartbroken -- since his mother had gone missing, she was most likely dead, so even if he knew that he was her son, Chen Tengfei couldn't do anything.
On the other hand, Chen Tengfei thought his father had abandoned him because they did not want him, so Chen Tengfei was shocked and mulled over this information for some time.
Chen Tengfei was angry at his father. His father, the Heavenly Immortal, had many wives and concubines. His father did not even care when Chen Tengfei's mother went missing. Of course, the Heavenly Immortal had numerous children as well, so how could he know and remember Chen Tengfei's existence?
Chen Tengfei's anger continued to brew and boil inside his heart. Time passed and, well, since he was the protagonist, Chen Tengfei's magical prowess became more and more powerful.
After a certain turn of events, Chen Tengfei was promoted and became a noble in the Heavenly Immortal's court. Chen Tengfei grew more and more prestigious, gradually expanding his influence in the court as well as beyond.
Meanwhile, the tension between the Phantom Realm and Cloud Realm were getting worse and worse. Chen Tengfei wanted to prove himself and earn more power and respect, so Chen Tengfei started plotting against the Phantom Realm.
In the Phantom Realm, aside from the royal clan, there were several other clans that held considerable power. One of the most influential ones was the clan of Shadow Demons.
The current head of the Shadow Demons was Xu Chao, a greedy and ambitious person. This person was a schemer, someone who always calculated his loss and benefits when dealing with others.
Chen Tengfei wanted to weaken the Phantom Realm, so he targeted Xu Chao. He wanted Xu Chao to work for him, or, if Xu Chao did not want to work for him, then Xu Chao would have to die.
Feng Yongrui stopped reading and took a deep breath. That was a lot of information!
"System, so far, what I've read is mostly about the protagonist. What will I be doing here? What's my role?"
"Ah, this time, you got an easy task, Host~~" the System said cheerily.
Feng Yongrui: "..."
"The last time you gave me an 'easy task', how did I end up?" Feng Yongrui muttered sarcastically.
"Host, what I'm saying is the truth! This time, this world isn't in big danger. As long as you do your task well, then there's nothing else that you need to worry about," the System said.
"Heh. Do you think I'll believe you? Just hurry and tell me what I should do," Feng Yongrui said, rolling his eyes.
"Alright Host, you will be Chen Tengfei's loyal subordinate who went undercover in Xu Chao's mansion," the System said.
Feng Yongrui gulped. "So I'm a spy?!"
"Correct! You're a spy in Xu Chao's mansion working for the protagonist~ Your job is to report what you see and hear in Xu Chao's mansion every single day..."
"...Everything I see and hear, every single day?" Feng Yongrui tilted his head. "That's it?"
"Well, that pretty much sums it up. Of course, you have to make sure that your identity is not found out by Xu Chao," the System added.
***
System: You got an easy task~~
Feng Yongrui: =_= Do you think I will believe you?
