Chapter 96 - The Car Crash (Arc 2)

Trigger warning: a car crash.

The first half of the ride was normal. All the while, Feng Yongrui had been paying attention to the road. When they arrived at the specific location, he would be ready.

Finally, they arrived in the particular street. It was a quiet one, with very few vehicles moving around. As the car moved slowly, Feng Yongrui turned his head to the right.

A few meters away, there would be a small alley. There would be a car waiting there, ready to crash into them.

A little more... a little more...

Now!

Feng Yongrui heard the loud rumble of a car's engine. He felt adrenaline course through his veins. He heard the chauffeur cursing under his breath...

BAM!

Feng Yongrui heard the sound of the car's door breaking and glass shattering. He felt the impact as he was thrown to the side and as bits of glass and metal pierced him.

And then he felt the belated pain.

It was hard to describe, really. All he could feel was pain, pain, and pain. He could smell blood. He could feel his flesh tearing away. He could hear the chauffeur cursing and yelling.

Feng Yongrui tried to look at the chauffeur. Hopefully, that guy would be okay. Before this, Feng Yongrui had slipped a good luck charm into the chauffeur's pocket. He had taken the charm from the "Taoist Monk's Set" that he had previously received.

Hopefully, the talisman protected the chauffeur so that he wouldn't get severe injuries... If the chauffeur was really hurt, it would be his fault... No, it would be the System's fault, because its items were terrible...

Feng Yongrui wanted to take a look at the chauffeur, but his vision was blurry and he could not move. Whenever he tried to sit up, pain would pierce him from every angle.

Feng Yongrui could feel something wet and sticky slide down his forehead. It was probably blood, he thought.

Feng Yongrui's vision grew darker and darker, and the pain in his senses grew more acute than ever.

Feng Yongrui grumbled under his breath. If he knew it would be this painful, he wouldn't have... he wouldn't have been so stingy and refuse to buy the "Pain Reducing Pills" that the System had offered him yesterday!

Feng Yongrui wanted to curse some more, but his vision darkened and he fell unconscious.

Yin Longshen did not know when he fell asleep, but he felt like he had been wandering in the darkness for a long time. Everything around him was black and formless.

A strange feeling of terror swept across his heart, and Yin Longshen struggled to open his eyes. However, no matter how hard he tried, Yin Longshen could not wake up.

He felt like he was trapped in a large cauldron, and the lid was tightly sealed shut. It was a strange, suffocating feeling, and it was an unpleasant one. Yin Longshen felt like he heard voices calling him, but he was not sure who it was.

Were they calling him, or someone else? Why did they sound so panicked? He had to wake up! Yin Longshen tried to move his fingers, but his body felt like it had weighted down with lead.

Wake up! He told himself.

Yin Longshen did not know what he was so scared of, but he had the feeling that if he didn't wake up right now, he would regret it for the rest of his life.

Yin Longshen felt like he was trapped inside a marsh of darkness, with chains of shadows that bogged him down and tried to pull him into hell. He fought, he pulled, he resisted, but he felt like nothing had changed.

"Longshen! Longshen!!" he heard someone roaring next to him.

Whose voice was that? It sounded like... Mo Ning?

Yin Longshen woke up with a start and sat upright.

"Mo Ning?" he looked at the person in front of him and raised an eyebrow. Yin Longshen looked around the room. He was still in his office.

"Where is my Didi? Did he go home first?" Yin Longshen turned to Mo Ning and asked.

Mo Ning kept quiet and shifted away uneasily. Sensing that something was wrong, Yin Longshen stood up and grabbed Mo Ning's sleeves.

"Mo Ning! What's wrong?! Hurry and tell me!" he cried.

A sense of foreboding crept into his heart, and the feelings he had felt in the dream seemed to return. It was this powerlessness, this helplessness and despair... As well as the terror that he had felt earlier...

"Longshen, calm down first, okay?" Mo Ning said, grabbing Yin Longshen's shoulders.

Yin Longshen felt even worse.

"Hurry and tell me what's the matter!" he roared.

Mo Ning took a deep breath and finally spoke.

"Your younger brother... he got into a car accident," Mo Ning finally said.

Yin Longshen's face turned pale almost immediately, and he felt like his soul had left his body.

"W-what? I... I didn't hear it clearly the first time. Say it again!" he cried.

"Longshen, your younger brother got into a car accident a few hours ago!" Mo Ning cried.

Yin Longshen felt his strength leaving him, and he collapsed unto the ground, powerless. His breathing became ragged, and Yin Longshen felt his chest tightening.

Panting, Yin Longshen turned to face Mo Ning.

"You... what are you talking about? Tell me everything!" Yin Longshen whispered breathlessly.

Mo Ning gulped hesitantly, his face filled with unease.

"Several hours ago, your younger brother left the company without you. While he was on his way home, there was a car that crashed into them," Mo Ning explained.

"H-how's my brother? He's not that hurt, right?" Yin Longshen grabbed Mo Ning's arm and asked. His eyes were filled with desperation.

"Your brother got hit with most of the impact. The doctors said... it's a miracle he's even alive," Mo Ning whispered, not daring to look at Yin Longshen's expression.

"N-no... the doctors must be lying... Let's go. Hurry, take me to the hospital. I have to see him myself!" Yin Longshen cried.

Yin Longshen wobbled to his feet, grabbed his phone, and ran out of the company. Mo Ning followed closely behind. The Yin family's chauffeur wasn't there, so Yin Longshen got into Mo Ning's car, and Mo Ning began driving.

During the journey, Yin Longshen tried to calm himself and asked Mo Ning about everything that had happened.

Mo Ning explained that about three hours ago, Yin Yongrui had gotten into a car accident. It was truly terrible, with blood and bits and pieces scattered everywhere. The chauffeur was still conscious, so he managed to get out of the car.

The chauffeur was helped by several onlookers and they tried to call an ambulance. The one who was hurt the most was Yin Yongrui (Feng Yongrui). He was sitting in the back seat and he received most of the impact.

Amongst all of the onlookers, none of them were doctors, and they didn't dare to move Yin Yongrui out of the mess, because they were afraid of aggravating his wounds.

When the ambulance arrived, Yin Yongrui was rescued and rushed to the hospital. His situation was very grave. After calling the ambulance, the chauffeur had tried, repeatedly, to contact Yin Longshen.

However, after so many calls, Yin Longshen didn't pick up the phone, so the chauffeur turned to Zhao Baozhai. Zhao Baozhai was actually staying abroad at the moment, so it took her some time to pick up the phone.

When she heard what had happened, Zhao Baozhai was almost hysterical and quickly booked a flight back home. However, the flights were full, so Zhao Baozhai would probably arrive on the next day.

The chauffeur followed Yin Yongrui to the hospital and helped with filling in the patient's details, as well as paying the deposit fee. After that, the chauffeur had tried to call Yin Longshen again, but he still did not pick up the phone.

The chauffeur also tried contacting Yin Qiushan, but he was currently in a business meeting abroad, so of course, he did not pick up the phone.

Desperate, the chauffeur called Yin Longshen again. After all, almost everyone in the Yin family knew that Yin Longshen and Yin Yongrui were close to each other.

It was at this moment that Mo Ning picked up the phone.

Mo Ning had finished his business and returned to the company to take some documents. When he entered Yin Longshen's office, he saw that the latter was fast asleep, so he did not bother him.

However, Yin Longshen's phone kept ringing again and again, so Mo Ning had picked up the phone. When he heard the news from the chauffeur, Mo Ning had quickly woken Yin Longshen up.

"That's roughly what happened," Mo Ning said quietly.

"...And the perpetrators?" Yin Longshen asked, clenching his fists.

"Don't worry, I've sent people to ask about it. We should see results in a few days," Mo Ning said.

Yin Longshen nodded his head stiffly.

"What about my Didi's condition?" Yin Longshen asked hoarsely.

"He was brought to the emergency department right away, and the doctors have treated him... But, he hasn't woken up yet... I don't really know the rest of the details," Mo Ning said.

Yin Longshen felt like his heart had turned into a block of ice. If his brother didn't wake up... he didn't know what he would do...
