Chapter 68 - The Tan Family's Gratitude (Arc 2)

Once Feng Yongrui entered the living room, he was greeted enthusiastically by Tan Qiqiang and Chen Chuntao.

They quickly explained that Tan Jiuming obeyed Feng Yongrui's advice and stayed at home. Then, they found out that the plane that Tan Jiuming was supposed to ride had crashed.

"Thankfully, we listened to your advice," Chen Chuntao said, distress written all over her face.

Feng Yongrui nodded his head in agreement.

"I would like to apologize," Tan Jiuming said suddenly.

"I apologize for doubting you and not trusting your advice," he said, turning to Feng Yongrui.

"I would also like to thank you for saving my life," Tan Jiuming added.

Feng Yongrui nodded his head. "It's alright, no problem..."

Tan Qiqiang said a few more pleasantries, thanking Feng Yongrui for his timely advice. Then, he began talking about compensation.

Tan Qiqiang took out a bank card and wanted to hand it to Feng Yongrui, but Feng Yongrui quickly refused.

To say he wasn't tempted was, naturally, a lie. Feng Yongrui found it difficult to navigate the modern world, because even though he could shapeshift, he didn't have money or a source of income.

So of course, to Feng Yongrui, the idea of having a bank card was very tempting...

But Feng Yongrui wanted to maintain his integrity. He shouldn't be swayed by monetary rewards... After all, he did all of this for one purpose: to get the Yin family to notice him and invite him to their place.

With that thought in mind, Feng Yongrui refused Tan Qiqiang's gift. Instead, he told Tan Qiqiang what he had told Wang Xiamei: that he wanted others to know about him so that he could help more people.

Tan Qiqiang and his wife tried to give Feng Yongrui other gifts, but Feng Yongrui managed to refuse every time.

"Good job, Host! You have successfully suppressed your greed~" the System said sarcastically.

"...You don't sound happy. What's wrong?" Feng Yongrui asked.

The System gave a scoff and began scolding him endlessly.

"Host, do you even know how much money was in that bank card, hm? At least 5 million US dollars, okay? How could you refuse that much money??"

The System did not wait for Feng Yongrui's reply and continued, "With that much money in your card, you could just exchange them and turn them into points!"

"If you used that money, you could've paid back your debt!" the System added.

Feng Yongrui was stunned and replied the System.

"You can change real money into points?" he asked in disbelief.

"How come you never told me about this? I can't believe you kept me in the dark!"

"Well, Host... You never asked..."

Feng Yongrui could not refute the System's words, so he changed the topic.

"Also, how do you know the amount of money in that card? What kind of skill is that?" he asked.

"Hmph! As a System, there is nothing that can't be done," the System spoke haughtily, but then regretted its words almost instantly.

"Heh. If you can do anything, why don't you go and complete the tasks in this world, hm? 'There is nothing that can't be done', right? Well, all you've done is make trouble for me since day one."

"What a competent System you are! You lost the information regarding the first world, and then you transferred me into the wrong person... You sure can do a lot of things," Feng Yongrui sneered.

The System was silent for several seconds, but then it started crying. That's right, it was crying.

Feng Yongrui could clearly hear the sound of a child crying and sobbing, and his heart softened.

Feng Yongrui tried to steel his heart, but hearing the pitiful wails of a child really made him soft.

...This System was really cunning!

"Stop crying," Feng Yongrui said sternly. He tried to act coldly, but only he knew how soft his heart was at the moment.

The System did not stop crying, so Feng Yongrui muted it ruthlessly.

Ever since he discovered the mute button, Feng Yongrui had been delighted. He could use it whenever the System was getting on his nerves...

After refusing Tan Qiqiang's gifts, Feng Yongrui said, once again, that what he wanted was for people to know about him. He did not want materialistic rewards.

Tan Qiqiang expressed his understanding, and since it was late at night, he asked Feng Yongrui if he wanted to eat dinner with them.

Feng Yongrui's heart, (or, to be more specific, his taste buds), were moved, but Feng Yongrui refused. He was afraid that if he stayed here any longer, his disguise would be revealed.

Feng Yongrui wanted to maintain a certain distance with his "customers", to maintain his mysterious and dignified persona.

After saying a few more perfunctory words, Feng Yongrui left the Tan family. The chauffeur drove him all the way to Wang Xiamei's house, where he was dropped off.

The next day, the Tan family announced that their son's life had been saved by a Taoist Monk. They praised the monk for his good deeds and for helping people without hoping or asking for any compensation.

Soon, it became public knowledge that the Tan family had been visited by a certain monk and that this monk was the real deal.

The Tan family also gave Wang Xiamei's number to several people (with her permission, of course), so that they would be able to contact the monk.

Soon, Wang Xiamei's phone was flooded with calls from various people, all of them wanting to know more about this monk. They wanted to meet the monk or have him bless them.

There were so many people that wanted to meet the monk that Wang Xiamei had to create a schedule and time table.

She hurriedly called Feng Yongrui, and he told him to do as she saw fit.

Moved by his trust in her, Wang Xiamei began organizing the people that Feng Yongrui could visit with even more zeal than before.

Feng Yongrui did, however, hint at Wang Xiamei to tell him if there was a big client like the Tan family.

Feng Yongrui wanted to help any large or affluent family that he could help, but most of all, his target was the Yin family.

He wanted the Yin family to know of his existence and believe in his words.

Feng Yongrui sighed and closed his eyes. Now that the stage was set, all he could do was wait... Wait and hope that his plan would work.

Well, Feng Yongrui did say that he would wait patiently, but he couldn't help doing something to make his plan entirely foolproof.

Several months ago, Feng Yongrui had searched Yin Qiushan's study and found the real Taoist Monk's address.

Yin Qiushan and Zhao Baozhai were supposed to call the real Taoist Monk, who would then read Yin Longshen and Yin Yongrui's real fortune.

However, Feng Yongrui wanted to be the one who was called into the Yin family to read their fortunes.

...And to do that, he needed two things:

1. He had to be famous, if possible, more famous than the real Taoist Monk, and he had to be credible.

Feng Yongrui had already become quite famous. As for credibility... didn't he just save the life of the Tan family heir?

2. He had to make sure that the real Taoist Monk wouldn't come to the Yin family and spoil his plans.

As for this... Feng Yongrui was still thinking on how to make the Taoist Monk willingly refuse to go to the Yin family mansion.

He had thought of several methods, such as kidnapping the monk, blackmailing him, threatening him...

He even thought of putting laxatives in the monk's food, so that the monk had to stay in the toilet all day...

At this point in time, Feng Yongrui began to seriously consider becoming a gangster or villain. All of his ideas were really... extreme...

"Host, please do not praise yourself. A real villain would actually go ahead to do his plan instead of doing the thinking in his head only," the System scoffed.

Feng Yongrui rolled his eyes and decided to check on the monk first, to see what kind of person he was.

The next day, Feng Yongrui flew as a ghost and arrived in the real Taoist Monk's place: it was a temple located in the suburbs of M City.

Feng Yongrui did not spend too much time looking around at the temple. Instead, he flew around looking for that particular monk.

Since this was a temple, naturally, there were several monks here and there.

Whenever he spotted a monk, Feng Yongrui would ask the System if that monk was the one he was looking for or not.

After a few minutes, Feng Yongrui finally found the real Taoist Monk from the original timeline.

Feng Yongrui observed the monk for a whole day, but he could not deduce anything from the monk's actions or words, because the monk was either praying, chanting, or meditating throughout the entire time...

Finally, evening arrived, and the Taoist Monk was visited by someone. Feng Yongrui took a look at the visitor and realized that this person wasn't a monk.

Tan Family: Here's a bank card for you...

Feng Yongrui: I-I'm not tempted!

System: Hurry up and take it!!!

Feng Yongrui: I-I shouldn't....

Note: When the author refers to the "real Taoist Monk", the author is not saying that the other monks aren't real. The author is simply referring to the monk from the original timeline, who was supposed to go to the Yin family.
