Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Regina

A caravan consisting of a Luxurious Carriage and several soldiers were being led by an old Knight.

The spring sun shone bright and a gentle breeze swayed the flags with a Wolf- Emblem hoisted on top of the carriage.

The Carriage window suddenly opened and someone peeked outside.

It was a fair-skinned woman with strawberry-blonde hair and amethyst eyes.

Her eyes shone brightly and a smile adorned her beautiful supple lips. Her loose bangs gently swayed with the wind.

Some soldiers gasp as their hearts started fluttering after looking at the woman and one of them even slipped down from their horse.

But none stopped for him as he hurriedly saddled up and rushed towards the caravan.

"I see these younglings still can't get used to your beauty, Mi Lady"

The woman heard a male voice and turned to look at her knight.

"Please don't say such things Uncle, I'm way past my prime," she giggled.

"Well just look at them. Young eyes filled with duty and souls burning with passion to protect their Lord," he said with a serene smile.

"Ha ha!" a self-mocking laugh escaped her lips.

"It's just a matter of time before someone else becomes their Lord and then all that would be left in their eyes would be lust," she mumbled with a sorrowful expression.

*Sigh~* the old man sighed.

"Why do you always think so low of yourself, My Lady?" he questioned.

"We both know that very well uncle,"

"After the death of my husband, all they see me as a Viscountess with just beauty and nothing more,"

she said with slight sorrowful eyes.

When she was 18 her parents somehow managed to pair her with the viscount.

However, he never loved her to begin with and only married her for her father's wealth who was a big-time merchant.

Even though he tried to fulfill his duty as a husband and as a Viscount and consumed their marriage with the hope to get an heir but that never happened and he passed away 6 years ago.

Due to her husband's early death and being without any heir, all of her relatives were eyeing her like hungry wolves.

Some offered to marry her and some tried assassination to get rid of her, so the title of viscount can be transferred to them.

Other than her sole Knight she referred to as an uncle, no one expected anything from her other than just being a bed warmer.

"Your skills to kill the mood is legendary, My Lady," said the Knight.

"Hehehe!"

She giggled as she looked at her Knight, he has been with her since she was 16 and had sworn an oath to protect her and has been doing so ever since.

"Aooowwwww~"

Both of their expressions turned grim instantly as they heard a howl.

"It's a Dire Wolf!" shouted one of the soldiers and the caravan came to a stop.

"Haha! I can take care of it," said one of the soldiers, and got down from his horse and he drew his blade out.

A dire wolf was an easy prey for a trained soldier.

"Wait come back and get into formation," yelled the old Knight.

He knew very well that Dire Wolves never moved alone.

But before his warning could have reached the young soldier, another wolf came out from his hiding and mawed him with his jaws.

Then suddenly the caravan of 15 soldiers was surrounded by 20 wolves.

"Aowwww"

"Aooowwwww"

The wolves started howling in unison which startled the horses and they started panicking.

A few soldiers fell from their horses as their mounts ran away and the wolves immediately pounced on them.

"Protect the Lady," yelled the old Knight as he started slicing wolves.

While the soldiers were facing the pack of wolves, their Alpha flanked from behind and attacked the carriage.

Under the strength of a Level 50 monster the carriage gate was shredded like paper.

When the woman came face to face with the wolf her face became pale.

The Wolf opened his jaws to bite her head off, she wet herself with fear as the monster's jaws surrounded her neck like the scythe of death itself.

But suddenly the old Knight pulled the wolf back and threw him out of the carriage with all his might.

He was way stronger than the alpha wolf.

"Regina, get in that trunk, and don't Come out until I say so," he roared while panting.

His road woke her up from her stupor and she immediately followed his instructions.

While she was hiding in the trunk, everything was dark but she could still hear the painful cries of the soldiers and animals alike.

She kept crying while praying that someone would come and save them.

Then suddenly everything became quiet and all she could hear was the sound of beasts chewing on meat.

She gave up on praying and just waited for her Uncle to tell him that everything was okay and she could come out.

But that never happened and she fainted due to lack of air.

Then she woke up when she felt a tug on her body.

When she opened her eyes she found herself on the back of a man.

She couldn't see his face, but he had black short hair, which was quite uncommon.

She started to plan how to kill him. She didn't know what his plans were with her, but she decided to kill him as soon as she found someplace safe.

There's no way he'll rape her in the wild with monster's and if he planned to sell her as a slave, he has to take her to any city.

The moment she entered any city, her identity was enough to ensure her protection.

But when they came out of the carriage, the sight made her shut her eyes and she used all her might to hold back the urge to throw up.

Then he started moving again and then she witnessed how her knight while he was breathing his last breath still cared about her safety.

With lifeless eyes she saw how the young man pierced his heart, to end his suffering.

Her complete world crumbled around. He was the last person who loved her and protected her.

It had been an hour since he was walking while carrying her on his back.

Then he finally muttered, "I know you've been awake for a while."

She didn't respond to him.

"Even if you don't respond, I can feel how wet my shoulder has become from your tears and you're shivering as well," he said.

She flinched a little this time.

"You should let it out. Holding it back will only make it harder."

When those words left his lips, her emotions went haywire and she started wailing.

"It must have been hard," he mumbled gently.

She clenched his shirt while shoving her face in his back while she cried like a child.

-------------------

It had been another hour while Virin had been walking and Regina was clinging to his back like a koala to a tree.

"Thank you," she mumbled under her breath.

"For what?"

"We are still far away from the Closest City, I guess," he said with a self-mocking laugh to lighten to the mood.

"Mmmm," she hummed.

"Did you change my clothes?" she tried to start the conversation to cull the awkwardness.

"Yes I did, well you were ...quite unpresentable, I guess," he chose his words carefully.

"You don't have to be that polite. I know I pissed myself and the smell would have attracted more monsters," she said with slight embarrassment.

"Well you handled that quite well!" he exclaimed.

He was seriously astonished, he was expecting her to turn bashful and abusive and all.

"I'm a woman, not a teen who will be crying for those stupid reasons," she replied.

"Hmm, make sense!" he said.

"I thought you were going to rape me," she said.

"Well, I would choose not to. I prefer consensual stuff, to be honest!" he said while laughing.

There was an awkward silence once again.

"I didn't get your name by the way," muttered Virin.

"I'm R....Reina," she mumbled.

"Reina?" he asked.

"Mmm," she replied.

'Oh, it's going to be like that,' he thought inwardly. He already knew her name but simply calling her name would have been suspicious.

"Is it just Reina?" he tried to pry a little further.

"Yes, just Reina!" she replied with slight hesitation.

'Maybe she's afraid that after knowing that she's from some rich family, I'll ask for ransom or something,' he thought inwardly.

"Hmm," he hummed.

"What is your name?" she asked with slight anticipation.

"My name is Virin, it's delightful to make acquaintance with you," he said politely.
