''Sharp?''
The tiniest, most timid voice came out from the slightly opened door.
Sharp peeped out from behind the corner, only to see that it was Cheesy who had opened the door and was calling him. He closed his eyes and sighed in relief, coming from behind the bottle and going to Cheesy.
"Cheesy what in rats damnation are you doing here? You frightened me. I thought it was the giant" he said.
"Oh sorry no he's out. The whole house is empty, no cat, no man, just us rodents'' Cheesy assured.
"Yeah well we're not all acting like rodents. There are two rats you left behind in the house" Cheesy giggled as Sharp said that both of them walking inside and sitting down against the wall to the furthest side.
"Sharp, you know mother loves all of us as her sons. We all help each other out at the end of the day" Cheesy reminded him.
"I'm not doubting that Cheesy. I know Mother loves us all. But she doesn't love us the same way. It's different what she has with Burrow and you"
"Well of course it is Sharp. Mother can't love us all the same. We're not the same, we all have different styles and ways of doing things with different strong points. Don't you think it would be kind of unfair for you to ask her to love us all in the same way?" He inquired.
"Hell no it isn't." Sharp responded, Cheesy laughing and shaking his head.
"Look at it this way brother. You're the quickest of the three of us, in terms of speed and wit. Burrow is the more levelheaded one that plans and strategies. Me? Well, I just want to see our family together no matter what. So, I'm the "caring" one. " Sharp looks at Cheesy skeptically, wondering where he was trying to go with this.
" I know, I know, but just follow me on this. I'm caring, which is why Mother is more sensitive with me when she says or does certain things. Cause she knows it's going to hurt my feelings. You're a warrior, which is why she talks to you so roughly because she knows you can handle it. Burrow is rational and responsible, which is why she holds him accountable for a lot of things. Or maybe she sees a bit of herself in him." Cheesy continued explain.
"So you see what I mean when I say she loves us differently? She deals with us according to our traits and personalities" he mentions, Sharp sighing with a tired expression, shaking his head and not agreeing.
"I suppose you do have a point there Cheesy. Just a small bit. But it still doesn't make it fair. And after all, Mother talks about us being a brotherhood and how rodents carry themselves with pride and all this Jazz. If this is a brotherhood and we as brothers look out for each other, why isn't Burrow here talking to me and not you Cheesy?'' he asked. Cheesy raised his eyes and slowly shook his head realizing that Sharp also made a point there.
"Very rat like if you ask me" Sharp added, getting up from beside Cheesy and stretching.
"Now if you don't mind I'd like to continue being alone for a bit. I'll be home in a few, I just need to blow off some more steam" Sharp told cheesy, him getting up and stretching as well.
"Okay Sharp. You take whatever time you need to take. I'll leave you to it" Cheesy began going towards the door, pushing the wooded cupboard to go outside. Just as he was about to he turned around and said one last thing to Sharp.
"Just give Burrow some time. I know he can be a bit standoff ish but he does recognize your power as a brother Sharp. I'll see ya later" with that Cheesy closed the door and he was gone.
Sharp folded his arms as he watched Cheesy walking out the cupboard door. He rested his paws on his ankles and looked down, realizing there was something under neath his feet.
"Hmmm??" he bent, tipping his fingertips in a white, powdery dust.
..................................................................
Cheesy went back to the holding and he sat down talking to Mother and Burrow.
"I think he just really feels underappreciated Mom. Like no matter what he does he can never please you. All he wants from you is acknowledgement of his efforts, you know how Sharp can be if no nobody recognizes him sometimes." Cheesy says to them.
"Well Sharp thinks he's a grown-up rodent, so he can do whatever he wants to do. No offspring of mine is going to look at their own Mother and call them a hypocritical r- word and stay in my holdings? No way" Mother said grumpily, cleaning her paws and running them over her head fur, making sure to cleanse herself.
Cheesy turned to Burrow with sad, pleading eyes.
"Burrow just- just talk to him. Please" He begged. Burrow peered at Cheesy with a look of complete disinterest. He said nothing to Cheesy, heading to the counter and sitting down, eating the rest of his leftovers.
